That was some get up out of your seat, bite off your nails, pace back and forth while yelling at the kids because they're being too loud, fun to watch basketball. It's been too long for us Kings fans, a few of us even developed a (man)crush on Tyreke Evans. That's right, I read the other thread ;) While I expected a loss, I was glued to my TV throughout the excellent third and fourth quarters hoping; HOPING and praying for the Kings to pull off a win, believing they actually could. Could you be more pleased with the rebounding effort of our young and energetic front line? 10 rebounds for Peaches the Brockness Monster (that's kind of unwieldy isn't it?), and 12 for JT puttin' up bricks (this game only, I hope.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scary stuff: Martin goes 9-29, JT goes 4-16 from the field, and we start no center, instead offering Okafor and West considerable competition in the form of Nocioni and May. Now scream!

Where are the coaches heads?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unlike our resident professional pessimist Piksi, I have stated that I can see this team winning 30 games this year. If Martin keeps his TS% somewhere near 58%, and our backcourt becomes the league's new dynamite scoring duo, I can see the team easily clearing that hurdle. Martin and Evans combined against NOH for 42 points, I kind of hope to see them team up for 48 a night. I don't think we will be attracting incredible talent this offseason, but I can see no reason why a Boozer or Bosh type would object to coming to play with a beast like Tyreke and this bunch if they keep up the hustle. Oh, and I liked the makeup of our bench with Nocioni and Beno subbing in, I don't like Noc as a starter, I like their energy off the pine. I say we let that become the primary pattern for a while and see what happens.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOH Hornets were guided by the superhuman CP3, and our guards played that one man wrecking crew pretty even. In the end, it was our bigs missing shots that nailed our coffin shut.

Can someone show Hawes how to shoot the ball again? I mean WTF is going on man?!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Awards:

TDM shouldn't go to anybody, How about Julian Wright for having a +/- of +7 (tied for highest on their team) while contributing five boards? Nothing impressed me about the Hornets except CP3.

LW-VC Goes to the incredible disappearing Mo Pete. I'm glad he didn't show up. Or, maybe this thing called defense serves a purpose?

JHA Spencer "Paper Tiger" Hawes. Man up dude, come on. You lost your starting gig to SEAN MAY!!!

RA & 1
James Posey was supposed to make this team a contender.

Mikki goes to Desmond Mason. Is he a starter just because he's older than the rest of the team?

SAR - Methuselah - Peja, my how times have changed old friend.

WTF moment of the game = Our guys hold onto the ball and let the clock expire during a crucial game changing possession without getting off a shot (Late 4th quarter.) Things like this expose the King's glaring inexperience.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next up: The aging Spurs. Is it too early for them to sit out Duncan and Ginobili? I mean, isn't dealing with Jefferson and Parker enough? Can we get a glimmer of hope, mister NBA scheduler? Why do we have to fall into a hole every time we start a season. I think the schedulers have a stake in the alcohol business around here in Sacramento.

Kevin - don't stop shooting after one off night
Evans - more please
May - do something in large quantities other than... Oh, I'll just lay off.
Mason - If you're not going to score play some defense or foul out at least.
JT - Remind us why Nocioni should be coming off the bench

Omri - Step it up, want more of the first game
Hawes - Stop being soft, stop being soft, STOP BEING SOFT!!! Can anyone get it through your skull!? You are a center in the NBA! Play like one.
Brockman - show Spencer how it's done
Beno - relish a bench role, it's for the best

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

You'll all probably be out doing Halloweeny stuff while the Spurs beat upon us. Pitty, you'll probably miss the scariest thing to happen this Halloween.

Nice job for your first NBA season start, ryanandty! I look forward to more good stuff. It's nice to know we've got a deep bench going for this thread!

LET'S GO KINGS!!!

Evans was consensus high school basketball player of the year in Pennsylvania. He was not given such honors after just 2 games as a senior. Similar at Memphis University where as a freshman he struggled for first third of the season until put in charge at PG where his team went undefeated until NCAA tourney. After 2 games in the NBA, he's showed more or less what was advertised. A few jitters in his first game, but more relaxed in the second one - and looking like he definitely belonged out there as starter against all-world Chris Paul. Now he gets suffocating D of the Spurs and key match-up against another star PG in Tony Parker. Staying in front of that super quick dude, keeping him out of the paint as much as possible, checking 6th man Ginobili are all big challenges for not just Reke but the entire Kings team.

Exciting stuff indeed. I think Reke is going to be solid this game. 14/5/6. He'll probably have a lower FG% than last night, but get to the line.

Between JT and Reke's suspect finishing skills Duncan will probably have at least 5 blks tonight. An Hawes will most likely finish off with more 3pt attempts than rebounds.

I follow Piksi's template, but I try to switch it up so I don't look like I'm copying;)

How about that Tony Parker Vs. Tyreke Evans matchup? The kid gets no rest. Westbrook, Paul, then Parker. Good barometer fodder.

A point guard like Parker might be the hardest matchup for him. Reke has long arms, and by all accounts a decent defender, but Tony Parker is another kind of quick. I can see Parker blowing by him a few times, and with our big men dealing with Duncan and Mcdyess, I could see Parker getting to the rim a lot tonight.

This works both ways though ... Parker is smaller than CP3 and Evans gave Paul all he could handle in the post last night .. I hope we go right too that match up.

After getting good practice during the pre-season, you really come thru for piksi in your first try, ryanandty. I agree with the deep bench sentiment of VF21! Nice job!

Parker is listed at 6'2" 185 while Paul is listed at 6'0" 175. I know listings can be wrong but I was certainly always under the impression that Parker was bigger than Paul.

Of course, Westbrook at 6'3" 190 looked pretty darn small next to Tyreke, so it's not like Parker's size should cause problems.

Regardless, I think it's safe to say there won't be any opposing PG's that don't look at least a little small next to Tyreke. The dudes a freaking monster! His biceps are as big around as some PF's.

That will be very interesting, because there is simply no way Parker can handle Evans in the post if that's how we try to play it. The Spurs being the Spurs they will have some sort of scheme to try to neutralize it, but they're either going to have to try to switch Manu over onto him, double him (possibly off of Mason), or something.

Potentially reminds me a bit of back in the day when Bonzi and Ron put the scare into the Spurs in the first round of the playoffs just by bouncing them around inside. We weren't better than them. We just posed some nasty matchup problems.

Manu would not be able to stop the drive of Tyreke... Tyreke is going to drive to the basket and Duncan will meet him there. He will have to find JT and JT will have to be able to finish or Tryeke's will be neutralized.

Yea Tyreke is huge. At the combine he weighed in at 221LB but i believe he worked on his size a little more. I would not be supurised if he walks around at 225lb.

That's the weight of most SF's Carmelo who is one of the Strongest is 230 I believe.

Spurs will have a following scheme on defense

Evans passes Parker, goes to the rim where he is met by Duncan and hit in the head - no call

Evans post Ginobili who plops for an offensive foul

at least the 3rd scheme is gone which was - Evans shoots jumper over Bowen, lands on Bowen's foot ... well You know the rest

Ginobili doesn't stop people, he flops like a fish. The challenge will be staying out of foul trouble.

that's actually exactly what I would expect to happen --have Ginobili flop aroudn and see if he can either disrupt the rook's composure or get him to the bench wiht foul trouble. Too bad too -- he and Kevin have had some amusing flop offs in the past where they run into each other and its a race to see who can hit the floor faster. Be a shame if they wasted that potential just for Reke. ;)

I almost wanted to laugh, until I started to cry... I'm almost positive it will happen at least once and, if Duncan is called for the foul, I can already picture the look on his face.

Brockman v. Blair

Now THAT'S a matchup I want to see. Two supertankers bashing into each other. Like those crazy huge trucks running into one another. Who will survive? - the irresistable force or the immovable object?:D

Spurs ones don't seem that bad. I think the Hornets one just flat out sucked. My favourite are still the Clippers announcers, as "bad" as the franchise is I think they have very knowledgeable and objective announcers.
