Kings sign Mikki Moore!!!

Third year = guaranteed unless he is traded or some such other wacky provison is nto helpful since this contract is nearly untradeable.
I agree it's a terrible contract. Mikki Moore for the MLE simply would never have occurred to me, especially since we are not exactly short on middling forward-center types with bad contracts.

Why choose Sacramento of all teams when he's just finished a Finals run? I assume we offered the most $$$ for his services.

Uh... Geoff... there may be a reason nobody else is bidding against us....

Man, it's days like this when I can feel the pain of the Webber trade in my game knee.

Still, saying that other members who might not agree are insignificant and that he can laugh at them is condescending. I don't really get the point of it either.
You missed all the nuance. I do laugh at much of the silliness that goes on, but this entire debate was about leveling the bandwagon/bad fan charge at people, and for that I was intentionally condescending. I am a rare purveyor of the reverse double standard -- you can insult me more than I will let you insult others because I am absolutely completely and 100% confident and comfortable in my qualifications as a fan. IMO there are no fans remotely qualified to make such a charge at me, so I have no problem dismissing such claims for the B.S. that they are.

Aim it generally at other fans though and it strikes a nerve. Its a self righteous charge and way to attempt to cheat to win the argument -- devalue the other fans opinions as being those not of fans -- and eptiomizes divisiveness.

mikki moore could be a nice piece for a team with a specific need that could get it over the dump in one form or another. not at that price however. in any case, he seems a ridiculous signing for us. i don't know why the front office seems hellbent on this "rebuilding on the fly" garbage that they've been feeding us for the last few years. it is about time they bite the bullet and accept that it just not going to happen. i don't know how the rest of the fanbase feels, but i'd be much more comfortable settling for going young and enduring more losses and better draft picks, rather than being stuck in perpetual mediocrity and no-mans land for years. there is an element of excitement associated with watching young players grow that, despite the increased losses, is far more enjoyable than watching a washed up team incapable of moving in any sort of direction.

So Ordinary That It's Truly Quite Extraordinary

I'm not exactly excited about this move but its hardly the end of the world. I just hope the 3rd year is a team option. I've never ever heard of a 2.5 year guaranteed deal, so I don't understand where that comes from.

I'll reserve judgement until we see what becomes of Brad/Kenny/Reef and what we look like opening day. I do believe this means we aren't likely to be pursuing a trade for Yi.

So... is it at all possible that this is a S&T but they couldn't announce it because the league office is closed on the weekends? Maybe for Kenny or Salmons or something?

Please?

Also, my reading of the Bee article is that this is a team option for the third year. In which case we've merely upgraded our old, nonrebounding bigs with a slightly more likeable old, nonrebounding big.

and its november right now...right?
The season is starting tomorrow? Right?

Or...maybe he signed this guy for a REASON. Meaning one of our other bigs are about to get taped up and shipped out.

You guys are naming all the bigs on our team with the thought that the offseason is over and we arent trading ANYBODY.

Petrie probably has something in the works already. Maybe a couple big men are gonna get shipped out in which this signing would actually look good.

Patience.
This has been the rallying cry for the last three off-seasons, and it has yet to pay off; being patient with Petrie is the harbinger of a long winter of discontent. I don't owe Petrie any patience whatsoever.

Unfortunately I think the S&T is just trying to make sense out of a senseless situation, but I have some hope on the third year. Sent Amick an email asking him for clarification. If he responds, I'll pass it on.

Figure there are four parts bad as initially reported:

1) opportunity cost -- could have spent the money better elsewhere
2) $$ -- nobody else in the league was offering Mikki freakin Moore the MLE. Nobody. He's been a career scrub who simply stepped up admirably for the last half of the season. And he's getting old. Bad contract, too much money on a guy probably just coming off career year syndrome, and hence likely unmoveable.
3) minutes for the kids -- we are crowding out the development time of our own kids again. Insanity.
4) cap room in the summer of 08-09 -- if tht is not a team option for the third year, we scuttle our own free agency push. Bright.

But of the 4, #3 and #4 could turn out ok. Nothing that can be done aboout signign the wrong guy for too much money. But if its a 2yr deal with a team option, then we just don't exercise it and so it does not hurt our summer 08-09 prospects (which you think the Moore people would know + nto give us that option). And of course if we start trading away our old long term contract bigs, and move 2 or even all three of them, then Mikki doesn't nterfere too much wiht kid minutes. So those are the hopes now.

Even though I'm about 70% sure Mikki will be a piece of a trade coming up soon, I'm also going to be happy if I'm wrong.

The guy is athletic, has good heart, and does what we always wanted from a big (rebounds and putbacks).

Having Moore and J-Will in the line-up would be exciting as hell
I have a hard time believing that this is part of a trade move, especially when you consider the size of Moore's contract. No team wants a guy like Moore if he has the ridiculous salary he has right now.

Moore doesn't rebound and is actually primarily a jumpshooter anymore.

And he can't be traded after signing him until December (Collective Bargaining Agreement rule(, and realistically, at the full MLE he might not be able to be traded period. You would think there would HAVE to be a trade coming at some point, but its almost surely involving somebody else. Suspect Mikki's all ours for the next couple of years.

Well...

Seems we've been waiting for something smart to happen for awhile. Dum-dee-dum. Nothing. We know have two giant salaried extras in Moore and Salmons. Eeeew. Tough to root for guys with that kind of talent.

How will they ever attain an entertaining style of play with this group? Miller-Rahim-Thomas-Moore. Peja-Vlade-Webber---and Wallace/Turkoglu couldn't even get on the court. This is full circle all right.

Dang, the Lakers signed Floppin' Fisher so I am stuck with my allegiance to this team. Residents deserve better, and so do loyal fans from either coast.

Its funny cuzz i really liked Moore this last season and i was like "at least we could get somebody like that next year", but the problem I see is not the fact that we hired him, but the fact we still have KT and some other excess baggage, lets start moving pieces out.

It does amuse me somewhat that some people think that Moore is a great rebounder when he's never shown that on a per-48 minute basis in his career. And last year, when he finally got significant minutes, he was still only the third-best rebounder on a middle-of-the-road rebounding team (14th in the league), where the second-best rebounder (Carter) only averaged six a game.

Great move. An athletic big man and plays defense and is ready to start at PF or C. Something we were missing on our roster. I am with everyone else hoping that another big is being moved but I don't hate this signing. We need a good example to lead the young bigs that we have and I think this is it.

This only makes sense to me if additional front court moves happen.

In a rebuilding mode I can live with this contract if Miller is moved.

You guys overreact way too quickly on this board. There will be more trades to come don't worry. Trades can't just magically happen. It takes time. So if we don't do a trade for a few weeks sit tight, strap in, and hold on for the ride. Because what a great ride this is. =)

Mikke Moore had a fairly good season last year. He tries hard and he's tall. That's it, those are the positives.

The Bad: Brick is right, this guy is a scrub. Scrub, scrub, SCRUB. 8 years of scrubitude and one decent year do not a decent player make. That and its so obvious last year was a perfect storm for him. He was on a talented, up-tempo team with absoutely no frontcourt and the best PG of the last decade. There is no other team in the league where he gets those numbers IMO....and they're not even very good.

Horrible, horrible signing. The most indefensible thing that Petrie has ever done. It doesn't matter what possible* trades are in the works. They could do the miracle package and send off Miller/Thomas/SAR all at once and it doesn't change the fact that you could get a similarly talented player for the league minimum...and at least they'd probly be young and capable of improving.

My confidence in Petrie is just battered right now.

Some people might diasgree on this being the most "indefensible" thins Petrie has ever done. Also, I not sure what "smilarly talented" player you might be referring to? Could you list a couple that are available at the league minimum......
