Kings sign Mikki Moore!!!

Me, too.

:)

It was so much easier back when our team was exciting and venturing into new heights. Whether you look at it as rebuilding, sucking or whatever else in between, it's tough having to live through all of this. I sure wish life came with fast-forward buttons sometimes.

tivo. save the agony, fast foward through the games.

the thing is , most people, or some at least ( like me ) dont really want him to be anything.. if he goes for 15 pts/10 reb a night ( highly unlikely ) it wouldnt really do it for me because that would mean hes getting minutes, and he will get minutes or we wouldnt have signed him for that much money..Dont get the wrong idea though, i like the guy and i'll root for any king, even kenny thomas while there on the floor

I honestly think this signing means KT, SAR or even Brad is going somewhere/anywhere. I'm looking at Moore as the "interim" PF to fill the slot until our younger players are ready to step up. Of course, it could all be an illusion, but I'm not really upset with this pick in that context.

i know this been shot down a trillon times but i can't believe we signed mikki moore to 18mil for 3years seems like petrie is trying to add players, as we go instead of rebuilding two thumbs down petrie i don't like the forecast to come.

So I've been out of town all weekend to come to Mikki Moore? Dang, kind of a let down. Well as has been stated a lot gotta hope that something more is in the works to get rid of Thomas/SAR/Miller before the season starts. If that happens it will lighten the dissappointment of this signing.

Earlier in the offseason I was under the impression that the Kings had decided to go into serious rebuilding mode. I have no idea how this fits into that rebuilding. I am/was not opposed to spending part or all of the MLE, but as part of that rebuild ie on young up and coming talent, not old, decent (at best) talent. I'm lost.

If you look at Moore as an interim PF to fill the gap while our kids earn some experience, AND you keep your fingers crossed this signals some kind of change to the KT/SAR rotation at the 4, then it's not that bad.

:)

I was thinking the same thing...AND...there are a couple of PF's that will be free agents in 2 years, too...one Mr. Brand, and one Mr. Boozer.

wow when i first heard about signing Moore i was pumped ! sure its not the greatest pickup. but it was so nice to hear Kings signed a Center ! and one that could be a super legit back up center. been awhile since we even had a solid back up center. plus it obviously means that either Miller or other front court players are on their way out. hopefully its more than one. but i think it will be at least one at this point. thats all i got about this i guess its just waiting time till a trade happens.

That's what I'm hoping for too. It's really the only way this signing makes any sense at all. If we start the season with KT, SAR, Miller, and Moore on the team then something is seriously wrong, and if we end the season with all of them still on the team then I'll officially jump onto the fire Petrie bandwagon.

I feel your pain, I'm tempted to just jump on the Bulls bandwagon being that they have a nice young team and I live within 80 miles of Chicago, but that wouldn't be a challenge would it? I have to gruel out watching the Kings hopefully rebuild in the near future....we can only hope that GP has more tricks up his sleeves because I like many here are thinking the best is behind GP! ;)

Someone tell me again how trading C-Webb for crap meant we will have more money to work with and more flexibility "down the road" which should start about now, right?

Seems we're stuck in dreadful with the same crap.

This signing would be pretty good imo if we didnt have Miller SAR and KT as the worthless lumps taking all of our salary cap. Mikki Moore does bring something to the Kings, but im not sure its worth it. Although pretty much everyone in NFL/NBA/MLB gets overpaid big time these days.
Hopefully we completely rid ourselves of Miller and KT and Moore is a good backup/minutes splitter with Hawes.

This is starting to remind me more and more of a psychological experiment in which people (us) attempt desperately find meaning to a situation in which there is none. The situation is what it is - ABSURD.

I'm afraid you're right but I'm still going to hold out some hope for a little longer

Hmmm.

I thought the signing was not absurd if Petrie had a trade arranged which would immediately send off a couple of our vet PFs, and figured that if he did, we would have heard something by Monday. By now, all I can guess is that he had nothing more than some sort of vague hope of future trades, unless someone is to be traded who was recently drafted and signed, and they have to wait until 30 days after the signing. But that seems pretty far fetched.

So I'm quickly warming up to the absurdity theory.

The criticism that's been directed at Moore on this message board has focused on his poor rebounding & shot blocking. So I thought I'd take a look at his career stats, and maybe find some comfort there. Ya know... how sometimes air-head fans will look at per-game stats for a bench player and in-so-doing they don't realize that the player has decent per-minute stats? Well, in the case of Moore, there's no silver lining. As far as rebounding and shot blocking is concerned, he's been pretty consistent over the years on a minute-played basis, and he has not shown a talent for either. In fact, he's declined a bit over the past few years in both rebounding & shot blocking. He's also not horrible at those skills, as some critics have suggested, but he's certainly not going to help us in those areas in which we are particularly needy. And hoping or expecting that he'll show improvement in those areas is only wishful thinking. Thanks, Geoff.

Considering the Bulls gave Joe Smith basically the same contract(except it was only 2 years and we have the option for Moore's last year at a reduced salary) this isn't that big of a deal.

Yes it is, not catastrophic, but their is a real issue here -- I think you may be missing the point of the objections. Mikki Moore...well first of all has not had a fraction of the career Joe Smith has. But more importantly, its not that its Mikki Moore, its where you are as a franchise. The Bulls are trying to add a final piece to become true contenders, so an older steady vet just to solidify things makes sense for their team in that positon. Would make sense for us if we were in that position too. But we're not. We're in the completely opposite position of rebuilding. Looking toward the future. And our needs are accordingly compeltely opposite. What we need(ed) is time for the kids, cap room in 08-09 to go after FAs, and if we were going to spend any money this summer, money to be spent on a young player who might develop. We...did none of that. If the Bulls sign Mikki Moore to this contract...well, overpaying a bit. But makes sense. If we sign Mikki Moore to this contract? Nonsensical, and even harmful. Steals minutes from Hawes and Justin. Steals money from our own push to get a real talent in free agency. Just...dumb.

Bottom line,

Mikki isn't worth what we are paying him.. Plus it's just another non rebounding vet taking time from a rebounding beast in JW. I hate this signing.

All completely true. I'd also add in that the Joe Smith contract is 2y/10m as opposed to 3/18 or 2/13 for Moore. So it costs more per annum and there is a cap charge on the 3rd year no matter what.

IMO when Joe Smith signed his deal it didn't validate it at all. It actually further revealed how terrible a signing Moore was. Its a worse contract for a much worse player who we don't need.

Added: Alexander Johnson was waived by the Grizzlies. He's a young, athletic big guy with a motor. Hard to believe he couldn't be pretty close to as good as Mikki Moore is right now except at a fraction of the cost and with a solid upside.
