Per 48 minutes, 1.38 bpg and 9.3 rpg. Those are mediocre numbers.

Moore is long, but he has NEVER rebounded, including last year when he was as bad as SAR, and his shotblocking days are long behind him. If you played him 30 minutes a night you'd be lucky if you got 1 out of him.

Miller:
28.3min 9.0pts 6.4reb 0.6blk
SAR:
25.2min 9.9pts 5.0reb 0.5blk
Mikki:
26.4min 9.8pts 5.1reb 0.8blk

Whcih just eyeballing it might be a tad LESS per minute than he was going as a backup. The rebounding is particularly poor.

SAR as a starter:
27.8min 10.8pts 5.2reb 0.4blk

Actually per 48 his rebounding numbers got worse after nov. and dec. and his shot blocking numbers were still not all that good and are blah outside of march.

The way some people are talking I wonder if we're even talking about the same player.

Google Mikki Moore, folks. 9.8 pts/5.1 boards is his career best and we just gave him over 10 million for 2 yrs. He is 32, right around the age when players break down.

They tell much of it. Especially in regards to straightforward issues like whether a guy is a rebounder or shotblocker (as opposed to fuizzier issues of overall value). And I just want to hear the attempts to excuse this one because of all those other great rebounder/shotblockers in Jersey taking the ball from him.

The Nets were willing to offer him all of $3mil BTW. Their own guy who they watched all year. And they have NOBODY up front.

Where's you see $10mil over 2 years? I'm far more er..."excited" about that than I am about a three year dela. At least he would not interfere with the summer of 08-09 then.

you cant seriously tell me your trying to compare SAR and Moore right now. SAR used to be a beast in his hay day. He is no on a slow, but tempted decline towards the rut.
Moore on the other hand was NEVER considered a star player. Nor was he considered an all-star. A great complementary player who will rebound, defend, and score in the paint.

Its ridiculous how you guys want the PERFECT signing. The guy who can be young...athletic...a good defender...proven contributor and so forth.

Be happy with what we just got. As I said. It is not logical to think that the offseason is officially over in some sort of way. We have 6 big men on the team right now. Petrie either found an open hole somewhere, or is in the process finding that open hole. Either has suitors for some of our big men, or something else. WE DONT KNOW. Wait and this might be that certain dawn that we have all been waiting for.

You are the one making unsubstantiated claims about his rebounding/shotblocking and how it all got better etc. etc. I merely pointed out the obvious -- scrub has good year = veyr similar production to SAR having lousy year. Doesn't matter if one is feel good the other is depressing. The production, end results, are pretty much the same. I am well aware of what Mikki is and is not. And I live in Jersey maybe 20 miles from Continental Airlines Arena (Nets home) so I am very well aware of what he did and did not do this past year thanks. Find it amusing that many of the same people who argued aginst signing Bonzi, because hey that was just a contract push (despite it looking quite similar to his previous seasons) are now trying to find some way to justify this for a scrub who's never done anything in the NBA and suddenly has half a good season at 32.

A few years back when we were contending I think I mght have mentioned Mikki as a possible 12th man 5th/6th big for the vet minimum on one of our contending squads. Now you are theoretically rebuilding, and you drop apparently the full MLE on an old journeyman and its not so amusing anymore. Completely unmoveable contract BTW. Moore has been a vet minomum guy, his own team wasn't willing to offer him more than $3mil a year. He's ours now baby. Wrong time/place/player.

Problem with that is then we are stuck paying his salary 100% for sure through 2009-10, and that scuttles attempts to free up cap room for a free agent run. I mentioned that possibility myself before this theoretical (and apparently quickly forgotten) targert of the 08-09 offseason sprang up. but if that is the year, then buying out Kenny is the last thing you want o do, because then he WILL clutter your cap that summer, and there is no way ot free that moeny.

Also this: even if we did buyout Kenny, and then signed Mikki to replace him, that still means no minutes for Hawes/Williams because now instead of Miller/Reef/Thomas eating/needing all the minutes you have Miller/Reef/Moore, and just few minutes to spare for the kids who should be getting the vast majority of them.

Then once again like another member pointed out, you cant simply look at his stats and determine his value. That way, Bowen (Bruce that is) would be worthless in this league as well.

Hawes is not yet ready to contribute as he needs to develop a bit, physically wise. We cant just throw him into the starting/backup position and ask him to deliver.
Yet again, we dont know if Petrie completed this deal as the beginning of many deals to come for our big men. Say SAR and Kenny are gone.
Leaves us with Miller, Justin, and Hawes. Is that formidable enough for you?
No way for me.

Maybe that summer of 2009 got pushed to summer of 2010 because thats the year most of our contract come off the books.

Mind you it kind of defeats the purpouse since Martin, Garcia, and possibly Douby getting extension money. Not to mention the draftees that you accumulate along the way along with other contracts via trade!

The Bee article seems to say that if he's still with the team in June 2009, the third year is guaranteed.

So I take it that it's a kind of team-option third year? I don't know what the difference is between that and this 2 1/2 year thing that I've never heard of before.

But if that's the case we can send him packing in the 2009 offseason and be free of that contract. Then this makes slightly more sense.

Well, it looks like we are in "win now" mode until the 2009 offseason (the year Bibby and Artest come off the books and Kenny/SAR/Miller are all expirings). It makes sense, I suppose.

This is my guess as to what's going to happen:
07 offseason: Trade SAR/KT for contracts that have less years on them. Some ideas include KT to Memphis for Swift/Stoudemire and SAR to Chicago for Duhon/Khrypa.

07/08 roster:
Bibby/Stoudemire/Duhon
Martin/Garcia/Douby
Artest/Salmons/Khrypa
Moore/Williams/Swift
Miller/Hawes


Probably cut Duhon/Khrypa/Swift. That or have them sit on the bench

We compete for the playoffs that year and inflate our players' value. Then the 08 offseason rolls along and then we firesale Bibby/Artest for expirings and youth that nobody is offering us now. In 08/09, we suck, get a very high draft pick, and then have huge amounts of capspace in 09 with Martin turning 26, Hawes turning 21, and a franchise player we just drafted making a young core and going from there.

Third year = team option would be best case scenario for this thing. And would eliminate one major source of irritation here (the other, taking all of Justin's minutes is not going away sans trades).

Third year = guaranteed unless he is traded or some such other wacky provison is nto helpful since this contract is nearly untradeable.
 
Very unexpected!

Moore's a decent big that can hit the mid-range shot well, finish around the basket, brings energy, decent athlete, around an average rebounder, effective defender.

Negatives are he's 32/33, not an interior presence defensively, not a significant rebounder, and not that well built.

This signing absolutely has to mean both of SAR/KT are gone eventually. 4 veteran bigs now. Part of why Moore was signed must be to fill in for SAR and/or KT's veteran presence. Though KT isn't exactly a normal veteran with his ways.

Not sure why Moore wants to play with us, I figured he'd stay in NJ w/ Kidd and Carter. Or go to a good playoff team/contender.

I still want us to get another young big, in the form of Watkins/Roberts/Johnson/maybe Brandon Bass. Those guys really bring what we need - you know, youth, athleticism, good size, rebounding, defense. Rather than just partially with Moore possibly replacing KT/SAR for experience, and height.

Justin won't be seeing much time even with 3 of Brad/SAR/KT/Moore. Then you factor in Hawes. Which is why both of SAR/KT need to be dealt, get Justin more time, and another young big in there.

Overall, not happy with this signing. Moreso a *shrug* at this point.

Still waiting and seeing what we do about our unathletic (or average athleticism), older, mostly uncomplimenting big man group.
