Well maybe they are trying to follow in the footsteps of the previous management and try stacking the SG for no reason. Hopefully this is not a Carl Landry type move where we have no plan to move other pieces to actually make it work.

Haven't seen a Jeff Horny comp yet. Can handle, shoot, will struggle on D unless there is a good system in place. This current Kings team needs a shot blocker so badly. So so badly. Not a new idea...

I am very stoked about this pick. Had posted that he is underrated and would turn out to be a better pro than Smart, Gordon, or Vonleh.
He was THE guy outside of the big three that I wanted the Kings to draft. When the Kings and I are in agreement, things usually turns out well (the other times being the Cousins pick).

i watched vonleh play a few times. he looked about as nba-ready as ben mclemore did last season. that is probably why they didn't draft him.
i doubt they're planning to start stauskas. that's why.

The last time we passed on a guy that was consensus BPA with the skillset that fit our needs to take a shooter/scorer was when we passed on Kawhi and grabbed Jimmer.
Even if Nick turns into a great player, where does that take us? We still have this huge problem with who to put next to DMC. Since he isn't a strong inside presence defensively but a beast offensively in the post, you need a guy who can defend the faster big, space the floor, and block shots. The only guys in the league that can do that are Ibaka and Bosh. Maybe Henson. It's an incredibly rare skillset. Vonleh could be that guy. And we passed on him to take a guy who plays the same position as Ben Mclemore, whom the front office called "their guy" last draft.

I kinda feel like too many people put their hopes into this mythical version of Noah Vonleh that blocks shots like Roy Hibbert, rebounds like Reggie Evans and has a perimeter game like old Karl Malone.
I liked Vonleh's skill set but he's more in the David West "I'm bad at defense but still useful" mold.

Fine by me. Then there's only 1 and maybe 1 other. And that's really DMC's ideal wingman.
Notice I said Vonleh COULD be. He has the mobility, the athleticism, the length, and the ability to space the floor. If he pans out, you can always scoop up shooters for your run. If Nick pans out great, where are you getting the defensive length along with the offensive spacing that DMC needs?

I really like the pick, as in Stauskas, but I don't like how things are right now. Right now, I just don't see how the pieces fit. When we picked Nick Stauskas, I was like, oh ok, this means we're trading Ben. But then I see the comments by the coach on how they plan on playing Ben and Stauskas together at times?
Obviously, I'm just being impatient, but I hope to god there will be more moves soon. I think Ben should be moved, first of all, in order to fill a position of need. I have no doubt that he will be a good player down the line, but if the plan is to win now, which it should be since Cousin's contract it slowly dwindling, he needs to go.
Judging by those Ben/Stauskas comments, I think what the front office has in mind is signing a mediocre point guard, like Livingston. Livingston is a good player but I just can't see a backcourt of him and Stauskas taking us very far. Bledsoe? He will get close to the max and I just don't think we can afford that this year.
And there is still the issue of getting a shotblocker. The JT/Williams or Landry trade for Smith really isn't that terrible since we aren't giving up much. I think I would prefer someone lankier though, like Henson, since Smith's production has been going way down for a while now. Again, we've needed this for so long. It really isn't that hard.

Not just the Kings but a lot of teams skipped on him and everyone saw him going #5 after Exum. Really surprising draft in some ways but at the same time not really. The kings pick was probably the most surprising in the top 10 which is sad.
