Kings release Amundson AND Williams!

Enh. Neither of them looked very good anyway. Just as well that the Maloofs save some money for a a few more $6,000 Carl's Junior combo meals.

WTF, now I'm really depressed. I can understand 1 of them like Amundson, but Williams too!!!!! That is crap, we only need to get down to 15 man roster and Williams can be paid the minimum and has lots of potential. I'm really mad now!!!! Why even watch the preseason or care about the offseason? You get all excited about some young guys and then we just end up cutting them when we could have kept one of them at least. This really sucks, it wouldn't be so bad if we had some good 4/5 guys, but we are so inadequate there and have some real veteran lossers here, some young kids kicking their ego around wouldn't hurt and might put a fire under Pot and Taylor to do more.

Wow lol thats kinda odd... I thought they would at least keep one of them because they need more rebounds and blocks. But hopefully they will be able to pick up a better player then. I thought they would drop potapenko.

A lot of players are invited to NBA pre-season camps. I imagine they learn a lot by practicing with NBA players and being coached at that level.

However, I wasn't impressed enough with either Williams or Amundson to be upset about them being cut. They can go play elsewhere and work on their skills and get far more playing time to do so without doing it on the Kings money. I wish them both all the best.

I also have to trust that they didn't impress the coaches or Petrie enough in practice either. They got to see a whole lot more of them than we did.

I guess we can hope for them picking up a better player to fill the 15 man roster, but they don't need to, they need at least 13, and no more than 15. :p 14 is in the middle. I hope they get someone else like a 4/5 that hasn't gotten the chance with another team and we can snatch them up. We desperatly need a rebounder/shot blocker which I felt that Williams could be down the road for us. I'd even be happy with getting Skinner back, why did we get rid of him again? I so much rather see him on the court than Taylor or Pot, he at least brought effort and defense and torched us playing against us for the 1st time after the trade last year.

With the Maloofs talking about going over the cap and now trimming back to 14 and maybe even 13 if we let Hart go, I think they might have some tricks up their sleeves seeing how badly we have been playing with turning the ball over and not having much rebounding and SAR and K9 not exactly lighting it up battling for the starting job...you can only hope right? ;)

Dude, they were both scrubs who were never going to see the floor. At best, the Kings could have kept the one who was the best cheerleader from the sidelines because that was going to be their job.

No reason to be depressed here.

Hence the reason Piksi ignores the preseason altogether. You'll just end up upset about something....

They were young and they had potential. They did things we needed. Amundson got rebounds and Williams could block shots. Quite honestly we could've really used them and they don't cost much. Since we're not doing a trade we don't need the extra roster spot. What was the point of ever bringing them here if you don't plan on using either of them? This just sounds like a boneheaded decision to me.

I know they weren't 1-12 position guys, but hopefully in the future. I know they were both on the bubble, but 1 of them at least should have made it. We have plenty of veteran scrubs, that a few youngings wouldn't hurt. It just sucks really pulling for these guys and then neither of them makes it. I hope we sign someone with the 1 open spot that maybe was given a shot elsewhere and we can desperatly use at the 4/5, because I'm not liking what I'm seeing from Taylor and Pot hasn't played and you know what to expect/or not expect from him.

Hopefully we can get some other teams over abundance of 7 footers. Wow, Seattle has a bunch of big guys that are very redundant. Wow Swift reminds me of a giant Dave Mustaine from Megadeth! :-)

I did a double take of Swift because I'm a huge Megadeth fan and have seen Dave Mustaine up close being to 2 concerts in the past year and Swift has that Dave Mustaine look and wow with his height and hair he really stands out!!! :p

Well it really sucks dropping both our undrafted youngings, do you guys see us picking up someone elses scraps for the last roster spot? Do you think we are done either dropping guys (Hart) or getting someone new?

Earth to you: Even Master P, yes MASTER P was invited to training camp for NO I believe it was a couple years back, but it's not like they were going to sign him. Like a previous poster said all they would've been is cheerleaders on the bench anyways. The only ONLY way they would have got minutes during the regular season is if there were a couple major injuries and with Petrie releasing them I'm sure there will be another move upcoming.

As do I. Last preseason there were actually posts here suggesting we trade Bibby and make Hart the starter!

So I don't know what to think, people here made both players sound promising but when I reference the above all bets are off.

Also suggestions that we waive players with mid-level salaries are silly, those are valuable trade pieces at the trading deadline, if we want to go that way.

so... what was the point of cutting woods?

He must have really screwed up in practice and couldn't keep anything straight to not play much at all in preseason. Even the young kids got some decent minutes in the beginning before falling out of favor and getting only getting garbage time.

With out lack of size I really don't know why we got rid of him, the other guys we have don't exactly blow you away now do they (Taylor & Pot and our 6' 6' center Corliss)!!! :D

Very good analsis, I'd say Hart like you have the SF with Off/Def, obviously Price for Offense/Hart for D, but Price is quick and good here too so really Hart is a backup to a backup to a backup. (Bibby/Salmons/Price/Hart

Well hope that Geoff really wants Hart/Poty on inactive list pending some sort of mid-season trade to use one or both expiring contracts and one other player to trade for an upgrade to one of our starters?

One can always hope!!!

We kept veterens with names the teams around the league know and hopefully some team is in a worse position than we are upfront and will trade 1 of theirs for 2 of ours.

I would take anyone with some skill at this point... we could use a rebounder, shotblocker, distributer, or even a shooter.

I think some of us liked amundson and williams for their hustle and enthusiasm... but in the end, they weren't as skilled as the vets.

Go Kings!

I have to agree with the cuts

I feel the best 12 players I listed above were kept

Woods was destined to be cut when Taylor got Signed
Amundson and Williams are not near ready to contibute
and Hart and Poty are worth more as insurance/expiring contracts

TO: All Free Agents

Wanted:
Kings Big Man.

Requirements...

1: Must be no taller than 6'8...Exception will be made in the following cases.
* You have the vertical leap equivilant to that of a phone booth.
* Your version of a low post offense is a jumper from inside the key.
* You define athleticism as hunting deer in the backwoods of Indiana.

2: Having an elbow jump shot is a must. You must have the utmost confidense in it, no matter your skill with it. From Mr. Elbow Jumper Chris Webber to Mo Taylor, you are needed and wanted.

3: Interior defense is frowned upon. Blocked shots are not welcome on the Sacramento Kings. Also frowned upon is mental toughness and hustle. No reason to break a sweat chasing down a rebound in a crowd when you can let it bounce to you!

4: Having a reputation as "soft" is a must. The gerneral perception of that means you have no defensive reputation, and you avoid the paint all the while merrily taking jumpers...As noted earlier, that is a key.

If you abide by the requirments set above, you have a great chance of sticking with the Sacramento Kings. We would love to have you, as would our awesome fans.

Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Corliss Williamson, Mo Taylor, Vitaly Potopenko, as well as the rest of the Kings gladly await your call.

Thank you for your time, and we hope to see you in camp!

So just as a recap folks, this now means that Brad Miller's 1.2 blks a game last year is more than ANY player on our roster has EVER averaged in a year.

Brad is our Ben Wallace.

I mean duh.

I would have thought that was obvious -- if you rebound or block shots you have absolutely no place on the softest show on hardwood. :p

Exactly, if you show any defensive game and are a big guy over 6' 9" we have no use for you here!!! :p This is a tweener 6' 7" teams for all positions, that is the perfect size to be a great basketball player!!!

Well Im not too optimisic about either Willams or Amundson but what the heck why not send one to the develomental leage? Personally I liked Amundson's hustle...some one jokingly referd to him as Mark Madsen with less skills and while it was both true and funny it's not all bad either. Wose case sceanario is you invest a few grand on big man who blockes shots, tries hard but just doe snot have it. On the up side you get a guy who plays hard develops and becoems a decent 10-12th man in a few years. Sure not much up side but heck for what you have invesed it's not much of a gamble.

That is some funny stuff, sad at the same time being as how true it is. I hate being such a tweener team. New team name: Sacramento Short Softies ;)
