Kings release Amundson AND Williams!

So just as a recap folks, this now means that Brad Miller's 1.2 blks a game last year is more than ANY player on our roster has EVER averaged in a year.

Brad is our Ben Wallace.

Um, last time I checked Amundson and Williams haven't averaged 1.2 blks in the NBA either. Neither did Woods. So....

We knew they were longshots when the preseason started, and even if they didn't get cut, they were going to be on the bench. Why is everyone so upset? It's not like either played that well.

He must have really screwed up in practice and couldn't keep anything straight to not play much at all in preseason. Even the young kids got some decent minutes in the beginning before falling out of favor and getting only getting garbage time.

With out lack of size I really don't know why we got rid of him, the other guys we have don't exactly blow you away now do they (Taylor & Pot and our 6' 6' center Corliss)!!! :D

I remember Koz and Henry Turner saying that when they saw him during warm-ups he was always shooting 3's instead of practicing down on the block.

Neither of these guys were very good and showed absolutely nothing in the minutes they played(other than Amundsons' complete inability to make a free throw). This puts us at 14 players so we may be looking at someone/something else.

I don't think our lousy front line would have been any less lousy by keeping either of those two louses. It just solidifies our lousicity up front.

Seems almost disrespectful that this is it. Every time a shot goes up it looks like 6th graders leaping angrily to pull boards away from 8th graders. I'd say get used to it, but geez we are way used to it.

I HATE lousicity. ;) :

BTW Master P was on the summer league team he was never invited to a preseason camp. Maybe something is in the works to try for another Big.

So lets see lets breakdown the 14:

Starters:
Bibby
Kevin
Artest
Kenny
Brad

Big Min Bench
PF/C -Shareef
SG/PG - Salmons

Rotating 8 and 9 Spot (small minutes - based on matchups,
performance by first 7)
Bigs -Taylor
SF - Corliss or Cisco (depends on need for Off/Def)
PG - Price

Towel Waiver
Douby

Inactive
Hart
Poty

Looks spot-on to me. I think you can have 13 active now though? So maybe Pot's the only one dressed down--although that'll be Bibby for the first few games or so :(

LOL SLAB...you are my brotha from anotha motha. ;)

Maybe GP has someone in mind he wants to pick up. Maybe another youngin'/roster invite-type that will be waived by another team. I'd like to think that Geoff isn't the worst GM when it comes to frontcourt decisions. But at this point I'm not holding my breath.

Well remember that Keith Van Horn is still out there... ;)

Its really too bad. I honestly didn't really see anything in Amundson so I'm not sorry to see him go, but Williams seemed like he could be something one day.

Won't make much of a difference this year though.

for a second there i tought it said Williamson.... (tired) :X

anyways, not that suprised..

coach probably liked something about pot, or theres going to be a trade or something. who knows -_-

now, we can officially be called "SMALL TEAM" :P

AHA I got it. Pot has been doing Awesome in practice playing defense blocking shots and handling the ball hitting threes fastbreak dunks. so Muss wanted to keep him the secret weapon to use when it counts. I just wonder if he will wait until the playoffs to unleash the beast that is Vitaley Potapenko

No. Pot's expiring contract is worth more than Mateen-ers. I liked the kid too but then I woke up.

His contract expires no matter if he is on the team or not. Honestly do you think somebody will trade us something we need in return for Him???? therefore not that valuable

Well I for one, am glad.

Every year you get these kids coming out of school all full of themselves with their "rebounding" and their "shotblocking" -- pfffft! All that crap does is ugly up the game and slow down scoring. And so they come into camp thinking they are all the shizznit and they've got all of the "intangibles" and all of that other garbage figured out, and I'm just so glad we've got a GM with the balls to put them in their place. The guts to stand up for all of those championship teams built around small, soft jump-shooting big men and say "No Mr. Young and Athletic, we do NOT tolerate those kind of shennanigans here!"

GP has made some bonehead moves the last few years. And wasn't he the one that wanted to nix the Artest deal??

By the way with Potato.., Croliss and Hart's expiring contracts, we will be atleast 10 million under the cap?
Should be interesting who we can get for that next season.

Every year you see expiring contracts moved for semi-decent talent or as part of a larger deal. I expect there will be some teams interested in Pot come the trade deadline trying to wiggle some cap room for next season.

Makes sense to me. Amundson, who I liked a lot, had no offensive game and can not shoot FTs. He hustled big time and banged with the best of them. But was too much a one-dimensional player.

Williams was more raw than Amundson and too skinny for a 4 or 5 in the NBA. Sure, he jumped and blocked a shot or two. But he also did not have much of an offensive game and looked more lost out there than did Amundson. He bulks up and gets in a minor league he could be worth looking at again next year.

They were young and they had potential. They did things we needed. Amundson got rebounds and Williams could block shots. Quite honestly we could've really used them and they don't cost much. Since we're not doing a trade we don't need the extra roster spot. What was the point of ever bringing them here if you don't plan on using either of them? This just sounds like a boneheaded decision to me.

the point was to see if they WOULD workout
