Kings may audition sean may?

No reason to look beyond summer league players at this point unless they lack potential... let summer league play out, let the Free Agents get a little desperate and sign someone good on the cheap...

Never admired his work ethic or health, and yet you think he's perfect for the Kings "when healthy and with starter's minutes."

Um, what? I don't care if he'll pay us to play, if he has a poor work ethic, is injury prone and can only be productive with starter minutes I don't want him anywhere near the Kings. There are too many other players out there with pretty much the same skill set but without the baggage.

And no offense whatsoever, but you thinking he has double-double ability isn't enough to change my mind. People thought Justin Williams had double-double ability, too, and where is he again?

;)
Where is Justin Williams anyway?

Right now I'm actually pleased that the Kings FO isn't just rushing into anything. Maybe getting burned on the Beno deal has made them a little gunshy. Beno had a much bigger audition, and the Kings guessed wrong. At least up to this point.

Beno came here as a, not used much player, and played very well for half a season. Unfortunately, last year he showed why he hadn't been used much. Diogu came in as a, not used much player last year and played well for two games. I think I would wait a while and see who else shakes out after the money starts to dry up around the league. There are times when doing nothing, is better than doing something, just to be doing something.
I think we're letting the market set the price. Did we renounce the rights to him, or any of our expiring contracts. Kings.com shows all the FA's still being on the roster, & Hoopsworld shows a $8M cap hold for Ike.

Every report I've read says that the Kings didn't make him a qualifying offer. Which should make him a unrestricted freeagent. As far as renouncing his Bird rights, I don't know..

Yeah, I don't know if not extending the qualifying offer (making him unrestricted) affects Bird rights or not. Either way, we have the cap space so it really doesn't matter. If we wanted him we could get him is the understanding I have.

Yes, since we didn't make him a QO he became a UFA. As such, I don't believe we retain the right to match offer sheets or the right of first refusal. He's free to go anywhere he wants. But, according to Coon's FAQ, FA's don't stop counting against the salary cap until they 1) resign with origin team, 2) sign with a different team, or 3) the original team renounces the player. So, we do retain his Bird Rights, which simply means we can go over the cap to resign him. In the mean time, he has a salary cap hold of $8M which counts against our salary cap. So, we need to sign him or renounce him to eliminate his cap hold and free up our cap space.

After reading through this thread I'm thinking Sean's full name might be Sean MayIhavethatifyou'renotgoingtoeatit? :p

All true. However we can renounce his rights at any time, so if a freeagent becomes the center of our intention, whe simply renounce Diogu's rights. I believe that if you renounce a players rights in order to make an offer to another freeagent, and the other freeagent ends up signing with another team, you can unrenounce his rights and regain the Bird rights. I believe that you have to tender an offer to the other player though.

Apparently, he's playing for the Kings... the Los Angeles Kings.

:p

Seriously? It's tough to find any current information. Here's what wikipedia had to say about his "career"...

A 6'10", 260-lb. power forward-center from the University of Wyoming, Williams went undrafted by an NBA team and started to play with the NBA Development League's Dakota Wizards, averaging 12.1 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.08 blocks in 12 games. He was signed by the Sacramento Kings to a first 10-day contract on January 5, 2007.[2] After the Kings released power forward Maurice Taylor on January 23, Williams was signed for the rest of season after his two 10-day contracts expired.
On February 16, 2008, Williams was waived by Sacramento together with teammate Dahntay Jones to make room for a trade that sent the Kings' veteran point guard Mike Bibby to the Atlanta Hawks. On March 7, he was signed by the Houston Rockets to a 10-day contract.[3] He played in one game for the Rockets.
Williams was brought to Golden State Warriors training camp on September 27, 2008[4], but he was cut after appearing in two pre-season games.
On October 16, 2008, Williams was signed by the Charlotte Bobcats. But six days later, he was waived again after failing to impress in three pre-season games.[5]

Sooo if May worked out for the Kings and impressed them. Does this mean that he looks better than Diogu? Or is he just cheaper? Could this be the age old case where a guy is in the league 3 or 4 years before he sees that its not all fun and games and starts to work hard and pans out for his 2nd team after rookie contract? Or is he Kwame Brown?

The Kings probably think that he's at least comprable to Diogu, and willing to take a minimum deal (which Ike may not be).

Well, if he ends up coming here, let's hope for the best. Ideally, he gets in shape, stays healthy, and puts up a nice 9/5 off the bench.

...worst case, he supports our local restaurants. Yum Yum Donuts will be guaranteed to last through the recession.

This sounds like bargain hunting. And when you're shopping in the discount isle you can't be too picky. May is like an Adam Sandler music CD you found at the 99cents store. You know it has potential to be good but it can also be very bad. In the end, you get it figuring at worse you're out a dollar.

I imagine if the Kings do get May it is a partially guaranteed contract that allows the Kings to get out with minimal damage to the wallet.

It appears, according to our very own CruzDude in Vegas (per Ailene Voisin) that it's a done deal. Since that's the case, I've started the appropriate discussion thread in the Kings Rap forum.

I cannot bring myself, however, to start a "Welcome to the Kings" thread until it's an official announcement.
