While the idea that ludacris is a singer is probably ludicrous, it was much easier to type that than:

ludacris - some guy who talks fast and loud and sells a lot of records to God knows who.

;)

ludicrous - idea of having SAR at center with small ball contingency...

;)
I thought we had alreday adressed this small ball issue LAST season... Has it EVER worked?

i think we are doing quite well for a team that has exactly 7 practices together and until that first one some didn't even know each other.

blah. even though it's only the first preseason game, i hate losing. and i REALLY hate losing to the mavs...... grrrrr

Howard/Daniels/Harris are quite a trio of youngsters. Last year too.

Chemistry/feeling out/getting into things game tonight. Whatever. Got a bunch more games left. 19 assists, and 11 steals, I like that. Total rebounding wasn't a huge differiential.

I'd hate to see a bunch of people get angry and disappointed. Expecting a blistering first game, nah.

Hopefully Paulding/Sampson/Price play/play more next game or two. Schenscher too.

Just good that an NBA kings game has been played.

Agreed.

I don't. No excuses for not rebounding the ball. It is getting pretty tiresome seeing us get out rebounded every game. Rebounding takes 80% effort and 20% skill:mad:

I think so too, considering the Mavs are a very good team and basically have the same team as last year. I, also, still hate losing to the Mavs.

If they all would just listen to Charles Barkley and his wise words..

"Yes, I have a method of rebounding. It's called 'Go get the damn ball'."

;)

Considering that Peja went 1-7, Bibby went 3-8, and Bonzi went 2-7, I am not worried.

We need to rebound better (what's new about that?) and of course our defense was . . .

But all in all, I picked up o n more posiives than negatives.

As much as I HATE losing, preseason does not stress me. Honestly, I can see good in losing the first games. NO chance of over confidence and it points out our most glaring weaknesses.

THEY WILL GET NO HATING FROM ME. I get to keep my positive attitude at least until the real season begins!

This was a pre-season game. Nothing more. If you're going to get all worked up at this point, you're going to have cardiac arrest by the end of October. You have to pace yourselves.

Yes, I would have liked to see some defense. But I've said that every single year. I did notice one thing - both Elston Turner AND Rick Adelman were pretty animated, and they weren't holding back on pointing out "errors."

I have a feeling tomorrow's practice is gonna be all about defense. And it should be. Oh, wait. And at least a couple of minutes on NOT shooting the ball from beyond the arc with 18 seconds left on the shot clock...AND someone in a Kings uniform wide open in the low post.

;)

:D HAHA! You mean that was not a scheduled 3 point shoot-out contest??? I bet I know what it was. They were trying to beat Bibby's long ball at the buzzer. But wait . . . That one did not count. Oh well,

Really though, I agree with you. It is WAY TOO EARLY to be seriously stressing!

Optimus - My take on Garcia?
Energetic and eager, but with a LOT to learn. He's got heart and he's got hustle; it's hard to really judge him against the Mavs because the matchups were constantly changing. He didn't do much against Dirk, but who does? I think we'll get a better picture of how well he can do when they play the Warriors.

The vets will get it together. If we have that second unit able to come in and do what they did tonight so far, we are going to be formidable.

Hey, look!

My optimism is back!!!!!!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's good to see your getting into mid-season form VF!!:D

Hmm.. yah hes always gonna bring the hustle... Nice to see he ain't scared to shoot though;)

It was a great game because i see a lot of improvement in Martin and Thomas and i was just blown away by SAR. Nice job by Miller, Garcia and Bibby. It was nice to see some defense in the 3rd quarter.

Hart, Garcia, SAR, KT, Brad, Martin had decent/solid games from their boxscore lines.. that'll start coming from all the starters soon enough. :)

Wish I coulda seen all them, even Bonzi just to see him on the Kings.

I don't think we can read too much into the game, especially when the starting unit is concerned. I never expected them to kick into gear until late pre-season and the beginning of season proper.

I know its only based on 1 game but I am liking what our bench is capable of brining to the table. Hart looks to be an energetic, defensive minded PG who will be a pretty good back up for Bibby. Martin can give us that energy and athleticism off the bench and Skinner did a pretty good job for the time he was on the court. Kenny Thomas was OK and SAR appears to be fitting in well.

However, there are still some concerning signs. Defence is not much better and once again we lost the battle on the boards. Offensively, we are very potent but defensively there is a LOT of work to be done.

Well the offense wasn't very potent tonight. If it had been, we would hae won. Peja's weakness shows again. There was a story about how in camp he sunk almost every shot he put up in a practice before the game. He steps on the court and just throws up bricks. Pressure. As soon as it matters, as soon as there is pressure he runs away with his tail between his legs. If he keeps that **** up he'll be traded before the deadline

I know DC didn't play although he was there, but I haven't heard anything really about any kind of tribute to him. Didn't they do anything?

How much pressure can there possibly be in a preseason game? Unless you mean defensive pressure (I did not watch the game) which obviously often rattles him.

In any case suspect its got more to do with all the new faces, and maybe just flat out effort. Of course that's a concern in and of itself -- Peja is so very dependant on the players around him, and if they are not on the same page... Will doubtless get better with more PT together, but I still wonder just how many shots are going to be left for him after the rest of the guys make sure they get theirs.

The reason our offence wasn't potent was because 2 of our best scorers didn't raise a sweat for the whole game. When I said, offensively we are very potent, I meant that we have a lot of players who can score from the second unit. We all know what Peja and Bibby bring to this team offensively. We all know they will get better when they get out of neutral.

As for Peja, I hardly doubt a pre-season game would be a pressure situation. He will start knocking those shots down soon. Give this team a bit of a chance to get to know each other and get more comfortable with their roles.

As I said, some of the core players didn't even raise a sweat in the game. Something I expected because a) I didn't expect them to come out firing on all cylinders, b) it isn't about what they can bring to the table but more what others can bring to a table, c) pre-season games are hardly the time for then to come out and play like their life defended on it.

This team hasn't played together before. The whole purpose of pre-season games is to experiement with things and for veterans to get rid off the cobwebs. Which combinations work and which don't, who can offer us something during the year, have the youngsters improved, etc... are all the questions that need to be answered during the pre-season.

Players I expected to come out slow and not have much impact were our trio. The players I expected to come out and show something were Hart, Martin, Garcia, Thomas, Bonzi and SAR. Each one of those players has something to prove. Hart needs to prove that he can be a good back up for Bibby. Martin needs to prove that he is capable of more than holding his own when he subs in for Bonzi. Garcia needs to prove that he can be a contributor this year either as Peja's back up or with garbage minutes that might be left over at SG. Thomas needs to play well and prove to the coach that he wants to keep his spot in the starting 5. Bonzi and SAR were new to the team so you expected to see something from them.

There is nothing new to learn from Peja, Bibby or Miller. We know what they bring to the table. We know what they are capable off and we know their shotcomings. Anything those 3 do in the pre-season is a bonus IMHO. The others all have something to prove.
