At least they would try to get inside..which tends to draw fouls..our FTA is just pathetic

Theres the truth plain and simple... and news flash Skinner and Corliss are not good players, and scoring(inside or out) is in no way either of their strengths. If our defense was awful and we couldn't stop them all night then I could see.. but come on.Mr. S£im Citrus said:I saw the same thing, and I'm of the same opinion; Rick made coaching mistakes (Jason Hart, anybody), but that wasn't one of them. Great minds think alike. maybe Adelman did not see the same thing I did. Kevin gets double teamed with the ball and four other Kings stand without coming over to support. Kevin and Garcia are back to standing in the corner to help keep the paint clear. When will Adelman realize it is not and will not work. he is wasting talent and everytime he sets that stupid offense E.T. needs to reach over and smack him in the head. You had Orlando Majic commentators wanting to know where 23 was. And do not let me get started on the bad passes that were made after Kevin was yanked.VF21 said:Excuse me while I rant:
This loss falls directly on Rick Adelman's shoulders. I am so sick of seeing guys tip-toe into the paint and then kick out to the guy nailed to the corner that I could and possibly will hurl.
We didn't lose at the FT line. We didn't get to the bleeping free throw line because you don't go to the line on missed threes from the corner that are wide open because you haven't made them ALL BLEEPING NIGHT.
Corliss didn't play; Skinner didn't play. Those two can both drive inside and at least draw fouls. I've had it.
That was as pathetically coached a game as I believe I've ever seen.
Embarrassing and demoralizing.
Now this^ at least is more valid.BMiller52 said:Good job adelman, awesome way to lose such a winnable game. Why the heck was Kevin out so long? It's not like Jason All Heart No Game is a player who is better, in fact, Jason was bricking so many shots it's not even funny. We're probably going to lose tomorrow too, go figure. 1 step forward two steps back.
Also is kenny gonna get suspended for supposedly throwing the ball at the ref? I thought he was throwing it TO him, but I guess it hit the ref instead?

Wasn;t anybody else watching? Time and time again I saw that -- Brad Miller, Bibby, Peja, KT -- see them come towards the lane, suddenly realize who was there, twitch, and then kick it out. That wasn't coahcing, that was pure 100% intimidation. THAT's what a big interior defender can do.
VF21 said:If the Kings didn't drive inside because they're afraid of Howard, then we might as well make the gold lamé uniforms our permanent ensembles and add purses and cute little feather hats.
Sorry, but we had at least half a dozen opportunities to score in the paint or at least draw fouls and, instead, we kicked out to Hart in the corner or Cisco in the corner. It's stupid; it sucks; and it cost us a game against half a team.
Did they have a reason for Adelman not playing Corliss or Skinner?
Afraid of Howard, my aunt Hannah. He's good but he's not Shaq and I've seen our guys bounce off Shaq like tennis balls against garage doors.
It's simply getting ridiculous. If I - a middle-aged woman in the middle of a forest - can predict what the play is going to be, how hard can it be for ... oh, I don't know ... opposing coaches to figure it out?
Grant and Jerry kept talking about all the good looks Hart and Cisco were getting from the corner. Well, doh!!!
They'd give me good looks from the corner, too. Why? Because it's not much of a threat.
I don't get angry at games very often. I'm angry at this one because it was an abysmal exhibition of coaching.
Boo!

Corliss is one of the only guys we have that can get the ball in the low post and actually score.........Skinner, while not a great offensive player, will AT LEAST DO SOMETHING IN THE PAINT unlike most of our other "bigs".
100% agree. Not sure why Kevin wasn't in there but all and all it was a small matter, we were just off from the 2nd half on. Tons of shots missed we would normally make, tons of bad spacing and stupid turnovers, unlucky breaks on steals where we Almost got it and then couldn't recover. It wasn't our night... Miami is up next. Don't worry you'll get your share of Skinner and Corliss in that one, not so sure if you will be any happier though. The grass isn't always greener...Bricklayer said:You're placing that particular blame in the wrong place. Our guys were scared of Howard period. And I actually would agree with you they may have been TOO scared of Howard at this point in his career. But that's how people with big defensive reps work sometimes. Only have to block a few and everybody turns yellow. It was clear and obvious. Rick had his own coaching issues. Screaming "be scared to take it inside!" wasn't one of them.
Not sure if that was on Comcast in the Sacto area, but if any masochists actually wanted to rewatch that 2nd half it was right there. Reef was the only guy used to working in there enough to go at Howard, and that with very mixed success.

VF21 said:I beg to have a differing opinion. I watched every blasted second of the game, and pretty carefully since I was doing the PBP. Yes, I saw Brad, Peja and KT go towards the lane and kick out. But why did they kick out? Because either Cisco or Hart was firmly nailed to the corner waiting for them to do so. It happened repeatedly...and I even said so at the time.
Sorry, but I'm not buying the "oh, they were so scared of Howard" crap. If Adelman didn't have his fingerprints all over it, Hart or Cisco wouldn't have continually been there just waiting for the kick out.
Yes, there were a couple of times that were somewhat valid. Howard is a monster. But it was way too easy and it happened way too many times.
I suppose this is just one case where we will disagree pretty vehemently.
Bricklayer said:Quite. I don't have a shred of doubt why it happened. The Magic have shotblockers, packed the middle, and our guys made the pass to the open guy rather than challenge + force the issue. Theoretically "good basketball". But one of those cases where "good basketball" is also passive scared basketball.

Again, Corliss and Skinner are offensively inept. We weren't getting calls for the most part either. We did go inside draw attention and kicked out for WIDE open shots, no one even close, they just didn't go down. I do think Kevin would have hit some of those that Hart missed but other than that there are bigger reasons why we lost this game than RA.VF21 said:Here's a thought. Send Corliss, who is actually pretty fearless, inside and see if he can draw a foul or two from Howard. Then, since Corliss will probably get as many as he draws, send in Skinner for the same thing. You get Howard with 3 or 4 fouls and you just might be able to make some legitimate moves inside without the little sissy boys turning coward and kicking the ball to the bleeping safety valve in the corner, especially since the safety valve wasn't working ... at all.
Peace.
Ryle said:Not sure if everyone read the article in the Bee last week(0bviously the Orlando coaching staff did) when Adelman said he was upset because instead of standing in the corner and waiting for the pass, Garcia and Martin, were actually cutting to the basket. Adelman told them to stay put and they would get the open shots. Tonight they got the open shots and where did it get us???

Have you seen Shaq play lately?SacTownKid said:So we get to base our opinions of Brian Skinner and Corliss against Shaq, hmmmm... thats a fair one!
We shall see. Maybe the grass is greener.
Hart wasn't the only one, Brad missed open shots, Mike missed open shots, Peja missed open shots, Garcia missed some open shots, Kevin missed some open shots... etc.JJ22L said:Saying Jason Hart has a wide open shot.....thats a good thing?...RA fouled this one up..bottom line. You ride the winning horse until you lose, you drop the losing horse to try to win. Adelman rode the "get into the lane and dish to the sides for to long"- it didnt work- he didnt adjust- we lose.
