Kings hire Jim Gray for sideline reporting next season

#31
I never like Jim Gray whose voice sounds about like Kermit the Frog. Vastly overrated talent IMO.

Not renewing Kayte's contract for him is a mistake IMO, especially after ridiculous Angela Tsai disaster. His new special 20 game contract for Kayte's 82 (or whatever it was) seems kind of weird.

Now, if bringing onboard Gray is first move by Maloof's towards dumping New York Napear I'll become enthusiastic about it. G-Man forever! Or at least until he decides to retire - same wth Gerry Reynold's who I feel sorry for just because who he's had to sit next to for these many seasons.

I don't much care about sideline reporting. I am sorry that i won't get to hear Kayte in the post-game analysis on the radio, though. :(
Same here. She provided good input on the radio. I wonder who will take her spot for post game and during Kings talk...probably just Henry Turner with Jason Ross now. =/

As for Jim Gray....is he really hurting for work this much that he's going to come to Sacramento to work the sidelines? Really?

So, for the first time since I can remember, the Kings have a courtside personality that pretty much everybody agrees is good - and they let her go? And it's not like you can claim she might have gotten too expensive, because they replaced her with a the long time nationally-recognized Jim Gray, who certainly costs more for 20 games than Kayte would for 82.

I'm trying to figure out which is the worse decision - this move, or the Rollerskating Evian Babies commercial I just saw. And as absolutely retarded as Rollerskating Evian Babies is, getting rid of Kayte might have been a worse move.

Wonder if some of that might have been her wanting to move on as well though? I mentioned when I heard her new duties last season that the Maloofs had really canned her as an analyst, and shuffled her off into "women's work" as a sideline cheerleader. Maybe she's got bigger ambitions than that, or an offer. Who knows. She knows her stuff, has a personality, and is attractive -- you would think that she could maybe even land a national gig. Best of luck Kayte.

This is weird. Not that I think Jim Gary or sideline reporting is a huge deal, but I would think this is below what he normally does.
Unless he was cheap, this would be a questionable move since the team has supposedly been short on cash.

I like/liked Kayte. Thought she was very good and was only going to get better. But there's more to this than we know. I'm guessing she wanted to do more than sideline reporting and the Kings aren't moving any of their broadcasters on to new opportunities.

Jim Gray? Supposedly he brings credibility to the broadcast team. And access to a vast arsenal of sports celebrities. So now we'll be hearing what Arnold Palmer thinks about Tyreke Evans??? Well, once we get over losing Kayte, he'll probably be a good addition. But that's giving him the benefit of the doubt - since I don't much care for him.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Kings clean house with their entire broadcast team (and bring Kayte back). But more than any of the others, G-man is the one I'd like to see retire the most. He'd be my first pick for a great next door neighbor, but I can't stand his broadcast personality. He reminds me of a preacher who's a little too quick to shame people (i.e. the Kings players). Then there's Grant's arrogance and Jerry's silliness. Can we bring back Tim Roye??? ;)

Back in those historic Lakers-Kings series he always came off as a HUGE Kings homer, hahahaha. Complete the circle I guess huh? Anyway pretty big score of the Maloofs and co. tons of experience and actually has a name. I also thought Katie did a pretty good job last season, maybe they bring back the House Party? :)

I was listening to Carmichael Dave for a few minutes earlier, and he seemed to think Kayte will be getting opportunites on a national level, such as espn. I could see here wanting to move on to bigger and better things, because she has the talent to do so. The WNBA season starts tomorrow. So who knows, maybe she has something in the works. But she'll land on her feet somewhere.

You know its TDM when Jim Gray getting hired ignites a massive fan uproar.

It's kinda seemed like they've been prepping Jason Ross to replace G-Man when that time comes for the past several years now. If not him, there's some dude named Koz who's another play-by-play guy. Nevertheless, G-man was among the best broadcasters in the league but has kinda dropped the last few years (though I can't blame him, considering how bad we were)

It's obviously the combination of hiring Jim Gray and letting Kayte go. She was (is) very popular. But like others have suggested, she'll soon be on to bigger and better things, and maybe already is!

I hope not. Jason Ross is a real nice guy, never had a problem with anything he has said or did. But, when it comes to his basketball knowledge, the tank is on empty. I've tried giving him a chance numerous times, and he is clueless about the actual game. No quality analysis. He and Koz can be horrible together. Again, both are nice guys, and I have listened to both for years, especially Koz, but I really wish they brought more sustance to the table when analyzing the Kings.

Jim Gray is a national figure, and has been on both NBC and CBS sports. To me he's always looked somewhat like a frustrated ferret.

I suppose this must be taken as a hopeful sign, with the economy on the upswing and the team having found its superstar, that the Maloofs are opening up the books a bit again after that scary drawback last year.
If this is a portent, then I think that this summer the Maloofs will waive Tyreke and sign Allen Iverson to a max contract.

Similar quality decisions from around the basketball world:

Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan.

Those uniforms.

Cheating on Adriana Lima.

Posts like this, really prove that the Kings as a team must be going in the right direction. You guys care about sideline reporting this much? Jesus. I guess there really is nothing to talk about at the moment.
