Kings free agency, part 3

I suspect that this will be allowed this year, but there will be changes made so things like this don't occur in the future. Perhaps players in the future will have to sign something that states that they verbally agreed to a contract and if they back out, there will be a consequence of some sort --- 10% of your earnings goes to the team you ditched or something of that nature. I know it seems silly to sign on a verbal agreement and then sign the contract later but who knows? The simplest thing would be to just get rid of this period completely and allow teams to sign players right away.

Someone with Twitter tweet vlade to sign our free agents ASAP. 1 second after the team is allowed before we get "DeAndred". While ur added it try to get "DeAndred" added to the dictionary as a new word

DeAndred: verb. Past participle of DeAndre: To make a promise to someone then at the last minute change your mind and have a bunch of friends come over and protect you while you hide and not answer your phone.

I would feel bad for the Mavs BUT this helps the kings in a major way. If the the mavs and blazers are out of the playoff picture, then we would have two spots to fill and four teams to duke it out. (suns, jazz, okc (which is going to be a contender) and kings.

I'm picturing Rudy and rondo at josh smiths house
Probably the reason why Ray was shipped to Spurs land.
Anyway, good luck to Ray.
His game is more of bigger and slower Rondo-Collison type of player so I could see this sign since the day Rondo was inked.
Stockton will probably kept for the shooting and passing consistency.

DJ did them so dirty. Dirk is basically done for getting to the playoffs for the rest of his career. The Mavs had discussed that if DJ didn't sign that they'd tank and go for a lottery pick. Carlisle was probably gonna move on. They wouldn't have signed Matthews. Just brutal.

I think Matthews said he'd stay regardless but I wonder if he felt out our front office for still wanting to make the deal.

Eff Matthews. You didn't agree in the beginning, so we don't want you now

I think I'm happier with plan B than I would be with Matthews. It feels safer and while Matthews may ultimately have more upside it's also a much bigger risk to take on.
Agreed. I briefly talked myself into Wes Matthews but he's a huge risk at 16 million a year. At least with Belinelli and Koufos you know exactly what they'll bring to the team and you know they'll be ready to play on opening night. It also gives Ben a chance to continue his progression unimpeded. We need to get off to a good start this year and start building chemistry with two new starters and a new mix of players on the bench. If we spend what's left of our cap space on a defensive wing and a veteran PF of some kind we'll be in great shape.

Depends, does he want to play for money in a situation with huge question marks alongside an aging superstar with a franchise that just got Bam Boozled, or does he want to play alongside a future hall of fame superstar, some really good friends, a new arena and a future hall of fame coach?

Michael Scotto: Dallas Mavericks are in play for Josh Smith with DeAndre Jordan signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, a league source tells Sheridan Hoops.

Here come the ripple effects. I know some didn't care for josh smith but if you did, we're now up against Dallas with their no state tax and crap load of money.
I don't think Smith does that. I think he signs a one year deal here, then goes for a raise here, a la Rondo, after playing a significant role off the bench. At this point, with Dallas short DJ, he's go to know that over the next five years his best chance of winning a title is with the Kings, not Dallas.

Dallas is probably the worst possible spot for Josh Smith right now. He'd be walking into a situation like he did in Detroit where the team needs him to be a scorer and already has an unmovable incumbent at his best position. Not to mention, their chances of making the playoffs went way down without a legit starting C on the roster and their top target at PG just signed with Charlotte. He'd be better off staying in Houston.

We might think that, but an extra couple millions is a lot. To some $10 million playing in Dallas > $4 million in sac. I'm not saying they will pay that much but they have money to blow now and the fa market is drying up. He can always chase a ring later a la David west

He's still getting Detroit money so it's not like the difference is going to be that huge. The question is more of fit, where will he look the best to earn his next contract?
