ooh, i thought sopranos would actually go earlier than it did.
my pick:
frasier (1993-2004)
in my opinion, it's the most well-written of the comedy sitcoms (well scrubs is pretty well-written, but a different type of humor). fantastic cast, lovably arrogant protagonists, just a superb show.

I have no idea if this show is safe, or not, but every time I see it on, I am compelled to finish the episode. I'm kinda a movie freak, and I really get off on seeing the behind the scenes stuff. I wasn't sure if this was on anybody's list, so without further ado, I announce my 3rd choice:

My bad on the timeout, I haven't been able to get on kf.com today on my laptop for whatever reason, so I'm doing this on the Iphone. Anyways, with my pick I'll select Entourage - will update with some info ect. Later.

This was my show of the summer. Every summer ( started last summer with LOST ) I try and go through one full season of a show on DVD, because, lets face it, summer TV is horrible. After a few good reviews from my friends and family I decided to go with Entourage. I was shocked at how much I liked it.
If you dont mind cursing and nudity, This show deserves a look.

This show may or may not be safe till a little later but this is another must have for me. I was unsure about it when William Petersen left but I am very impressed with Lawrence Fishburne. Plus, there is just nothing better than the original. With my next pick:

Well, since "The Wire" was taken, time for me to grab my other favorite Baltimore detective drama.
Homicide: Life on the Street - NBC (1993-1999) -- The last couple seasons of this one got a little silly, but the writing and acting were both quite impressive in the early years.

A few minutes into a particularly risky (questionable?), invasive surgery Dr. House goes and botches it, punching the drill he was boring into my skull all the way through to my pre-frontal cortex. I start to convulse, bright green strands of light corrupt my field of vision. A pair of ghosts wearing strange, tight, futuristic uniforms start stripping the medical staff of their equipment. I can hear one of them yelling: "Bones! Can. You. Bring him. Aboard. And. Save. His life?"
The other ghost takes one look at the drill: "Damnit Jim! I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker."
The first ghost implores the second in his unusual truncated speech pattern: "He must. Live. Who will pay, for the show?"
If they get me out of this alive, I will happily be paying top dollar to syndicate:

ANTHONY BOURDAIN: NO RESERVATIONS
I like this show for many of the same reasons I like The Amazing Race. I love shows that highlight cultural aspects of other countries, and I love to learn about food from around the world. Bourdain is a great writer and narrator, and I like that he seeks out what the locals eat.

Firefly (2002-03)
Offered me more entertainment in one short season than most other shows did in their entirety. Great characters, hilarious dialogues, a fascinating universe that holds quite too few Chinese people, if that should indeed be the "space language", as the subtitles suggest, and one of the most devastatingly bad executive decisions Fox ever made. Too bad really.

Great choice. Although you get all of...13? episodes? Something liike that. Still more fun than a lot of series that lasted 10 years.

Interesting question, actually. I've gotten accustomed to thinking of Firefly as having 17 episodes because that's how many are on the DVD, but are we going by only aired episodes for the purpose of this draft? If so, that would be only 13 episodes.

Well, IMDB and wikipedia give a list of 14 episodes and since these two are the neutral arbiters for this draft, I guess that's what it is then. I must admit I don't care particularly, as long as Our Mrs. Reynolds and Jaynestown are part of the series I'd gladly picked it over a whole lot of other shows. Quality over quantity and all that. BTW, which of the episodes weren't aired? I couldn't tell from a cursory glance and I'm afraid that the DVDs are irretrievably lost at my parents' place.

There are 14 episodes on the DVD, which is all that were produced. Only 11 aired on Fox, but the other three have since aired in syndication on Sci-Fi, so it's all fair game. Except the Serenity movie.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (2000-present)
Larry David at his infuriating best. I was introduced to this show by a friend and have been laughing hysterically to it ever since. Better than a show about nothing, it's a show about the guy who does things that continue to snowball until everything is a complete irreparable mess. My friend's husband couldn't watch the show without storming out of the room at least once yelling "why couldn't he just....GAH!!!" Another HBO winner!
