[Game] Kings @ Celtics - 1/30/13 - 4:30 PST

it has been my contention that, since the kings drafted demarcus cousins, the offense should flow through cousins and evans, which hardly seems like an outrageous proposition, but neither paul westphal nor keith smart have been able to take advantage of the fact that they were coaching two physically superior talents. it's a bad joke, only further emphasized by smart's insistence on riding isaiah thomas, of all people, in spite of his craptastic play...

Actually thought Westy did a decent job running it through Reke/Cuz, and they were at least the focal point. The issue with Cuz/Westy was more off the court. Cuz's assists under Westy were higher than they are under Smart, even though he's a better player now and has more weapons around him now.

many games ago, i coined the phrase "second quarter sabotage" to describe keith smart's substitution strategy. it would appear that SQS is on full display once again...

it's kinda nice to see Keith Smart running into the buzzsaw that is having Rivers bring KG back after a quick rest. would need an actual plan to counteract that, huh Keith?

in my estimation, westy's problem and smart's problem are exactly the same, though each referred to their notion of offense differently. westphal called it "read and react," which is shorthand for giving the ball to someone who will then... do something with the ball. keith smart calls it a "greenlight," which is shorthand for giving the ball to someone who will then... do something with the ball. i'd certainly agree that tyreke evans benefited more from westphal's coaching than smart's, but it's splitting unnecessary hairs between **** coaching and **** coaching...

What the hell Outlaw? This stuff drives me crazy. If anyone on this bench unit should be chucking its Thornton, then Brooks, then Robinson THEN Outlaw. He just doesn't understand his role at all.

Don't disagree, but under Westy we did see more movement off Cuz, usually Beno and Reke each scoring off a back cut each game. Both run terrible systems, but I do think even Westy did a better job of making those two the focal point despite the actual system being crap.

Pierce and Garnett vs our bench. Looks like Doc did a little bit of scouting and realized if he plays his starters early in the second he can build a lead for little work.

it's interesting, I can't remember seeing the team be as vocal and demonstrative about where you should be in a set. people shouting and pointing, Chuck outright grabbing T-Rob by the jersey and put him in place. that's a good sign, right?

Jesus. There is no way that Keith Smart isn't intentionally sabotaging this team to hurt fan enthusiasm. No one can be this dumb. He does everything wrong. I used to be a staunch supporter but there is not justifying it now.

Hey, Reke and Cuz at 6:30 mark... that's progress!!! Maybe the 8 minutes mark next game???

the damage is done. we will never see the lead again.

and i think when this kind of crap happens, Tyreke and Cousins are damaged mentally and dont even wanna play the rest of the game.

Aaron brooks can do nothing besides dribble to his right hand along the baseline and either throw a crazy pass or shoot it.

He is also getting torched on defense.

You are correct.
We might get close again in the 3rd quarter, but he'll mess it up with his sub patterns in the 4th.

Yes and no. Players taking responsibility(Chuck), but also after 4 full months of instilling this system, which isn't complicated, Smart still hasn't gotten through to guys where they should be. Just look at our sets, they're elementary compared to most teams, yet Smart still hasn't gotten through to them.

Mark of a good coach is his ability to teach, as well as put players in a position to play to their strengths.
