Kings 2009-2010 NBA Draft:

Well Baylor is lucky they had Udoh on the team today, because without him they would have lost the game for sure. I believe he ended up with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Baylor which usually has very good guard play, suddenly couldn't do anything from the outside. Dunn, their best scorer went cold and then to top it off logged his fourth foul early in the second half.

As I've said before about Baylor, who I have in my final four, Whew! That the way to beat them is to get them in foul trouble, because the only have a seven man rotation. Sam Houston came close but no cigar today. Very nice game by Udoh.. I think he had 2 blocked shots also.

Good him going back is great because it be less of a chance of GP picking him if he's staring him right in the face. As a player he annoys me, if they ran a system where that dude would go to the block and use some of sort of finesse they would be in the tournament still, they kinda screwed my bracket too.:mad:

Baylor I have going deep in all my brackets, final four deep, so I hope that game was just first game jitters. Looking at that team they have size everywhere, they are the perfect tourney team.

Lastly Omar Samhan I love his footwork, but he just screams slowfooted D Leaguer to me, if he could drop a little bit of lbs I think he would have a nice chance in the league, off his footwork and soft touch alone.

Well, the part that's not being quoted is that his coach thinks Monroe will probably take more time to actually think the decision out. They've been wrong before, but most draft prognosticators out there seem to think Monroe will eventually leave. I could see it going either way--Monroe's shown a loyalty to Georgetown and a willingness to stay in school despite lotto pick potential (see last year) but he could also come to the conclusion that their highly structured offense is limiting his success. We'll see.

In any case, while Monroe does scream "Petrie big man," there have been some rumblings that Petrie's actually not a huge fan (I think it was from the Rise Guys for what it's worth). With this new emphasis on toughness, Monroe could come up short. He might be the best there is if we do end up in the 7-10 range, but I could see Petrie pulling another "shocker" and picking someone like Udoh "early." I also have Baylor going far this year, so when all is said and done in the Tournament, picking Udoh at 7-10 may not be considered all that early at all.

I wouldn't put too much stock in what he said directly after the loss. That's pretty typical really. He's disapointed for himself and his team, and the sentiment is to come back next year and do this right. But in the next month or so he's going to be pondering big dollars and the big dream, and its a pwoerful pull.

I hope he stays in. If we miss out on the lottery he could potentially be a nice consolation prize in the 7-8 range. Either way its better for our purposes to build big man talent in this draft.
 
Am I the only one who dreams about a Tyreke Evans/Evan Turner backcourt?


two big combo guards who can score, distribute, and share ball handling/play making duties...

Yeah, great game by Samhan. As I've said several times. You watch Samhan and you think too slow. Can't jump. Not athletic enough. But at the end of the day he still has his 20 points and 10 boards and 2 or 3 blocked shots. So you have to give him credit. He's been doing this all year. One thing you can say about him is that he's one tough hombre.

As I said earlier. I also have Baylor in my final four. My biggest fear was the first game. I believe they've lost every first round matchup that they've had. I thought if they get that monkey off their back, then they're on their way.

I still haven't seen him play. My one question to those who have...slow-footed, unathletic yes...but relative to say, Brad Miller, how does he stand? Because Miller was a pretty productive college center who didn't get drafted due to athleticism. All Kings fan vitriol aside, if we selected Samhan in the 2nd round I think we'd be thrilled with a Brad Miller type career.

The reason I think the Miller comparison is important is that he's right near the minimum acceptable athleticism quotient to be an effective NBA player. Than his high skill level made him a very good one. The rate of blocks and rebounds makes me wonder if Samhan might be able to be a decent enbough athlete himself.

Edit - I have seen Robert Sacre of Gonzaga play, and he is a legit NBA athlete who measures out 7 feet. Samhan's averages against Gonzaga this year were exactly 20 pt 10 reb 3blk on 50% sshooting.

From an athleticism point of view, Miller might be a good comparison. That would be where the comparison would end though. Their games are entirely different. In style of play, I would say that somebody like Marc Gasol would be closer in comparison. Samhan is a very physcial player. Some in his conference would call him a dirty player. He is well liked only at his own school and by his own team. He is collectively hated by all the other fans in his conference. Sounds just like the kind of player we need.
 
Im really starting to like how this draft could work out for us.

Assuming we draft a big man, whoever is there at the time .. Cousins, Favors, Aldrich, Udoh, or Whiteside with our first pick, the second round contains another big that could complement that player almost perfectly.

If we get Cousins, you could match him up with a defeinsive PF in Varnado.
If we drafted Aldrich or Whiteside, you could pair him up with someone like Brackins or Garcia.
If you went with a PF like Favors or Udoh, someone like Samhan or Parakhouski would fit in nicely.

I think its pretty clear we need big men on this team, and with the second part of the draft lacking in good guards, It would seem like a good strategy to go with in this draft. If we go into next year feeling like 2 rookies, Thompson, Hawes, Landry, and Brockman is just too many bigs, we can always trade someone .. You have to think they all have some kind of value around the league.
 
I think drafting Aldrich/Whitside or Cousins with the first pick is what we need, but I would like to grab the KState PG, Clemente in the second round if he is available......I think we need to trade Noc and perhaps get a true SG.:p

I agree, its a very deep draft for big men. Similar to PG's last year the depth in the one position will push good players down the board. Guys who are drafted in the late first/early 2nd this year could have been mid first/late lotto guys in other years. Where would Jordan Hill have been drafted this year? In the 20's at best?
 
We desperately need to find a way to get another mid-late 1st round pick. There are couple of teams with 3 picks maybe we can buy one.

Yeah, I think your probably right about Hill. I like him at the time, and I still think he can be a pretty good player, but I certainly wouldn't take him over Udoh, Aldrich, Favors, Cousins, Monroe, or even Patterson. Actually a guy like Parakhouski probably would have been a mid first round pick in that draft, if no higher.

I know Minny has three picks in the first round. I'm sure they're going to swoop up as many point guards as they can. At some point they'll be the best passing and ballhandling team in the NBA. A wee bit small, but if they can just get Nellie as their coach, then they're set.

Well your stating the obvious with Aldrich and Cousins. I'm not totally sold on whiteside just yet. Doesn't mean I'd turn him down if he was the only one left, but I think I would take Udoh over him at the point. I'd certainly take Favors over him.

As far as Clemente goes, I lke him. And he's certainly a big part of the Kansas St. teams sucess. But if we wanted to have a look at him I don't think we would have to draft him, because I sincerely doubt he'll be drafted. Not sure how he would fare in the NBA. He's not a bad ballhandler, but he's nothing special. I'd say he's an average passer for a point guard. He's a scorer, but a bad outside shooter. He's scores most of his points by driving to the basket. I just don't see him being able to do that at the NBA level. Tyreke, he's not. And at 6'1" he's at a height disadvantage.

He's what I call an overacheiver, and you never can tell about them. Sometimes they fool you. But in his case, I really doubt it.

If I wanted a point in the second round, and I don't by the way, I would go after Jimmy Fredette or Greivis Vasquez, or Terrico White. All these guys have a much bigger upside than Clemente.

with the 8th pick in the 2010 NBA draft the Sacramento Kings select Greg Monroe.

I like Monroe, he has the same demeanor as Tyreke, very humble, seems soft spoken. is he the best player for our team.....hmm...not exactly we need a rebounder low post bruiser/defender.
 
By the way. I came down pretty hard on Jerome Jordan a couple of weeks ago. Well he's played well enough of late to convince me that he might be worth a second round pick. I finally saw some aggression out of him. And he plays well when he's aggressive. If he can maintain that or not is up for grabs. But he does have some talent. And the dude is big. Not my first choice in the second round, but he has me interested now.

If this happens, I'm holding you personally responsible. I'm starting to feel ill now.. No, seriously, he wouldn't be the worse choice in the world. But there are others that I would rather have. If it came down to either Monroe or Udoh, I hope Petrie goes with Udoh. Much better defensive player. Better athlete. And not a bad passer, although he does make a couple of bad passes from time to time. But then so does Monroe. Who I believe had 6 assists and 7 turnovers in Georgetown's loss yesterday.
 
Minnie is going to go after Cal's Jerome Randle. 5'10" in shoes.
They will then change their name from the Timberwolves to the Mini Me's.;)
 
I like whiteside and udoh, but if we draft Monroe the problems I see is his explosive ability and his right hand. I think he can improve on both.
 
After watching Texas and Wake Forest, lets not draft Pittman. I think he had as many fouls as points and got denied mostly via man defense.

On the other side, Aminu looked interesting and crashed the boards hard. In the NBA he'll probably be a three or another damned tweener, which the Kings have little room for.
 
Just finished watching the Gonzaga/Florida St. game. Nice win for Gonzaga. Happy to see both Gonzaga and St. Mary's advance to the second round. They proved they belong at the dance... Ya gotta love Matt Bouldin. He's like the point guard version of Omar Samhan. Not the most athletic kid, but he just gets the job done.

Also just finished watching the Oklahoma St./Georgia Tech game. G Tech picked the right time of the year to start playing well. Favors was a rebounding machine. James Anderson, who I like, and who is a great outside shooter, didn't help himself with this game. He simply can't create his own shot. He was a non enity in this game. He even managed to turn the ball over on Oklahoma St's last possession with a chance to tie.
