Kings 2009-2010 NBA Draft:

I have one Baylor game recorded that I haven't watched yet.

If it was the last one its worth watching.. Georgia Tech working on an upset right now. Still a half to go. Typical game again. Shuppert has taken as many shots as Lawal and Favors combined..

I think it was the one before last.

That was still a good game, but that was the game that Acy was having a great game off the bench so Udoh did everything he could to help him. You can still see the skills that he has. He just didn't try to score as much. In the last game he used his entire arsnell of offense scoring 25 points.

G. Tech almost blew a 17 point game. It wasn't a good game for Favors, but then he didn't get much help from his guards.

I have so many games recorded from the past two days its ridiculous. Just finished up the Kansas A&M game.

Wasnt Coles best, but I think everyone has talked about him enough for now. I just wanted to see what everyone thought of Sherron Collins. Not the purest point guard, in terms of assists anyways. I would deffinetly classify him as a scoring point. Hes small, hes not going to stop anyone from scoring, but man .. he can score. Hes so quick and he can really shoot it. Hes got some Bobby Jackson/Nate Robinson in him.

Im not talking in terms of the Kings here, because I think its pretty clear we should draft a big if we dont land Wall, Turner, and in some cases Johnson, but I think Collins can really help a team. I see a lot of Mock drafts have him going somewhere in the second round. I think he'll go higher than that. Reminds me of a guy like Collision or Hansbrough. A guy who has a really solid college career, gets the "good college player, bad pro" label, and then some team takes him in the middle/late first round and he plays well. I think he's NBA ready. Plays for a good team with a good coach, and hes a senior.

I could see a team like the Celtics, Magic, Thunder, or Heat taking him with a 20something pick and really giving them a scoring lift off the bench.

Great read.. I had been saying his rep isn't really an issue this year as well. He hasn't done anything to warrant him deserving that bad rap this year. He's on the top of my list for big men definitely. It makes my mouth water thinking of him starting with Landry off the bench in a 6th man role.. We would be one big man away from potentially having the best front court in the NBA again since Vlade/Webber/Pollard.

What is your guy's take on Aminu? Haven't seen much written about him in this thread.

I haven't spent a lot of time on Aminu because he's a SF and if there's one more thing we don't need on the team is another SF. Thats taking nothing away from Aminu. He's a freak athlete thats really improved this year. His all around offense has improved as has his defense. In the past he's relied mostly on his athleticism, and still does to a certain extent. He plays PF a lot and I think that has hurt his development aka Gerold Wallace, who played Center in college. I like him, but we don't need him considering that we already have Greene, Omri, Nocioni, and Cisco that can play that position. And no, I don't think he can play PF in the NBA. Well, maybe for Nellie..

Collins is a good ballhandler, a premium talent at the college level for a point guard, and a very good scorer. While I wouldn't call him an assist machine, he's very capable of breaking down offenses and dishing the ball. For a college pt. he doesn't turn the ball over at a high rate. I say that without looking up his stats and going on just what I've seen from him. He is a floor general and runs the offense very well. As far as where he'll go in the draft. I see him late first round or early second round. I think his size is what will push him down the draft board.

I can see Collins as a change of pace pt off the bench. His downside is how can he defend guys like Rose or Evans etc.

If Thompson, who has been playing better of late, can continue to develop, I'll light some more candles, then I think we would have a pretty darn good rotation. I had high hopes for Hawes, but they're fading fast. Thompson is the more physical player of the two anyway, and the better rebounder. Point of fact, is that Thompson at least brings something to the table even when his offense goes south, and Hawes just disapears.

That aside, just get Cousins and we'll figure the rest out later. My dream team would be with Cousins and Udoh together on the floor. I think they would compliment each other. Udoh would be a terrific weakside defender and shot blocker and Cousins would the the perfect inside man defender. Udoh is a very good passer and a guy that can score if you need him to, or be a facilitator if you need him to.

Won't happen of course unless we were to aquire another first round pick. But hey, I can dream..

Monroe looked pretty sweet yesterday. I havent seen enough games to judge his defensive abilities but on offense he looked friggan amazing.
He would fit nicely with Reke with that smooth jumper and great passing.

Baj whats your take on him?

Unless he dramatically improve his offensive skill set then I think he's going to have to be an undersized PF on an up tempo team ala Josh Smith, Gerald Wallace.

I guess I'm just too much of a traditionalist. All those guys are SF's as far as I'm concerned. I suspose you can put whatever label you want on them, but that doesn't change their skill level or their size. And by size I'm refering more to their bulk than their height. However, I can see either Wallace or Smith, especially Smith at PF more than I can see Aminu there. He's just not skilled enough in the post to suit me. He's more of an athletic slasher with a developing jumpshot.

Anyway, regardless of what he is, the Kings need size in the middle that knows how to play. Aminu doesn't spring to mind.

There's no denying that Monroe is probably the best passing big man in college. He's a good to very good offensive player thats improved his post game this season. Defensively he's inconsistant and his rebounding is inconsistant. When he puts his mind to it he appears to be a good rebounder. So what I question is not so much his ability as his desire at times. I think Monroe truely enjoys being a facilitator of the offense. I think he really enjoys that aspect of the game. I'm not so sure about the other side of the ball. He has talent, and he's a decent, but not a great athlete. And he has good size.

He certainly wouldn't be a bad pick, but he's not my first, or my second, or my third pick by a longshot.

Why would drafting Cousins allow Landry to come off the bench? I think Cousins and Landry would start w/JT coming off the bench.

Yeah, I haven't had any interest in him at all this year. He's definitely not for the Kings unless he's part of a trade.

I wouldn't be disappointed with getting Monroe, but I'm hoping for a little more. We seriously need to get a top 5 pick.

picked the wrong day tofinally watch some Evan Turner again I guess -- everytime I have been paying attention it seems like a turnover or a foul for him.

Well he did have 31 points and 10 rebounds. Not one of his better turnover days for sure, but you can certainly see the skill level he has.

No one will argue that Turner has a good assist to turnover ratio. And while Turner is a very good passer, he's not really a point guard. But he's been forced to play point for Ohio St. He handles the ball probably 80% of the time. He's also their best scorer and their best defender, and their best rebounder. Thats a lot of responsibility for a 6'6" SG. He is, as they say, The Man! So I'm willing to overlook his bad assist/turnover ratio. Its something thats easily corrected at the next level. His biggest weakness is his outside shot. But unlike Tyreke, he does have good form on his shot. He just shoots it a little to flat at times.

interesting analysis. he sounds like the typical petrie pick to me.
On nbadraft.net they compare him to a (less athletic Lamar Odom). I wonder if he will translate to Center in the nba or if he will be regulated to PF.
With his size and IQ you would think he could be a good rebounder and defender in time. Right now him and Cousins look like the two most intriguing players to me. Altho I havent seen Favors or Aldrich play yet.

about to get another look at monroe right now. G-town vs West Virginia

I would take Favors and Aldrich both over Monroe. I would take Udoh over Monroe. But thats just me.

After a second look at Monroe, he is pretty average on the defensive end. He seems to stand around alot when there is 50-50 rebs and when he is supposed to rotate.
His handling and passing is insane though, I wouldnt mind picking him if we got a second 1st rounder or if we slipped out of the top 5 spot.

What order would you take Aldrich, Udoh & Favors?
I'm going to have to watch these guys next.

Cousins
Favors
Aldrich
Udoh

Monroe looked against WVU kinda like Kings against quick and athletic Oklahoma - slow and unable to rebound: 19off. rebounds for WVU against 19 rebounds overall for GT.

Why would drafting Cousins allow Landry to come off the bench? I think Cousins and Landry would start w/JT coming off the bench.

I don't know if I see Cousins as an NBA C. I had always pictured him as a PF. I guess just watching his games I pictured him there.. I may be wrong though! You know who I REALLY would like to put in the front court with Cousins if we had him? Roy Hibbert.. I think the two would really play well together. I have no educated basis on this other than seeing the both of them play (separately of course), but I just think they have styles that would mesh.

Sure, if you wanted the least athletic frontcourt in the NBA.

Cousins with his length and strength will easily play at center position. For PF he's a little slow, will have trouble defending tweeners and P&R.
