KG: Wants major pieces...

All-Star
Star Tribune - Kevin Garnett agreed with some postgame sentiment late Tuesday that this group of Wolves needs more playing time together, probably a training camp. But Garnett wasn't about to leave it at that.

"But you've got to add some pieces onto it too, man," he said. "You just can't bring this team back. You've got to add some major pieces to it, and I think we'll be very solid for next year."

Moments later, he added: "You have to add pieces to a team and keep a core together. We've yet to have a core. I'm probably the only consistent thing that's been around here. ... I feel like the city doesn't really know the team. Hopefully, they'll take heed to what happened this year and fix that this summer."

Well, Banks (they're gonna keep him for the long-term)/Hassell/KG/McCants/Davis/maybe Blount, I'd say is the core. Need a better front-court group and playmakers/point guard depth. They have a good set of swingmen though: Hassell/Davis/McCants/Reed/Dupree (like what I've seen of Dupree).

Some core.

McCants hasn't proven he can play at this level. Hassel is a roleplayer. Blount is an overpaid roleplayer. Davis could form part of the core, but when a guy is on his 4th team it tells you something. Has the talent, but not one of those automatic keepers who's a perfect fit.

You want a core aroudn you KG? WE'VE got a core! :D

Oh, forgot Mark Madsen who was re-signed to a 5-year deal in the summer. ;)

Blount I don't care for. Hassell I've come to like, and is a good piece on any team.

McCants has been consistently good off the bench since their west-coast road trip in January. Getting nice minutes. He'll be better next season, I think.

They re-signed Madsen for five more years?

If that doesn't go a long way towards explaining a lot of their problems, I don't know what does.

Madsen? Five years? ... One has to wonder why.

Seriously. I'm surprised no Garnett to Kings trade rumors have surfaced in the media... Garnett's already been traded to like 5 different teams... I guess we're just too small of a market...

Cavs was never a legit thing though, just said that's somewhere he'd like to go, and would come off behind LeBron. Nets was just a rumor, all the rest though had quotes and possibilities going on.

well... if no kg, how bout a bonzi for jaric? we get a back up point and a playmaker to let bibby do his thing.....

no. thats a stupid trade. we should keep bonzi and just resign bo-jax in the summer for the MLE. Trade Corliss and Vitaly.

KG did it to himself by taking such a large contract from a small market team.

I'd ultimately do that... and Minny would too. They get more of an SF than Hassell in Bonzi, as well as another scorer, defender, and hustler.

Banks
Hassell
Bonzi
KG
Blount

with a bench of: Davis, McCants, Hudson, Reed, Griffin(?), Madsen, Carter.

Jaric wouldn't be the first I'd pick for a back-up PG, but would be a good pick-up.

About signing B-Jax to the MLE... no. Some of it? Maybe. But, we'll be using that on a big, another PG, or quality exp. swingman off the bench (if Bonzi's gone). I actually see the Grizz re-signing Bobby.

itd be a good idea simply to keep the ball out of artests hands while bringing the ball up court.... we need a real playmaker when brad goes into crybaby mode... that was the problem we had against the lakers.... bibby and artest were worn out and brad wasnt able to set anyone up.... martin was ineffective so artest was forced to do too much.... having someone to set everyone else up would have been nice.... we dont need him to score....just toby and arter from handling the ball....

Artest for the most part has been fine bringing it up the court and setting up people, he's been doing it for at least a few years too. I like it.

Normally, as we've seen, Garcia would of handled the ball a bunch too.

I would rather let Bonzi go for nothing then trade him for Jaric. Whether you like jaric or not, he is overpaid and Garcia and Ron can provide better relief for Bibby if we cannot sign backup PG.

Memo to KG:

Dear Kevin,

I'll admin I don't watch much Wolves basketball, but just a quick glance at the box score for tonight's blowout at the hands of mighty Raptors, and I am convinced that if Wolves were to have a firesale today they would have to be offering all their players not named Kevin Garnett by the pound (say $.99 per lb. - Mchale would want to give himself soem negotiating space). And still, there would be no buyers. Even Geoff Petrie at his hayday would not be able to bring back any talent in echange for the sorry lot that you play with.

So man up and ask for the trade already and give them a list of teams that you would accept being traded to:

1. Sacramento
2. Kings
3. Sacramento Kings

As much as I'd like this to happen, look at ESPN.com today:

While Kevin Garnett appears to be growing increasingly impatient with the direction of the Minnesota Timberwolves, owner Glen Taylor says he can't envision a scenario where he would trade the team's only star.

"I do not see that as a possibility," Taylor said Wednesday night before the Timberwolves played the Orlando Magic. "As I stand here, I just don't see a possibility that makes sense."

Speculation about Garnett's future, much of it completely baseless, has swirled for most of the season.

The former MVP has spent his entire 11 seasons in Minnesota and never once has asked for a trade or even hinted at wanting to leave the only organization he's known.

But the rumors ramped up again this week after Garnett spoke out Sunday following a close win over the New York Knicks. He said after that game that he didn't want to go through another "rebuilding" season.

However, he also said he had faith in Taylor to make the right moves in the offseason to turn around a team that will almost assuredly miss the playoffs for a second straight year after making the Western Conference finals in 2004.

"I don't want to go through this any more," Garnett said. "I think I'm more deserving of a better team and I think the city's more deserving of a better team, coming in here having something that's going to be competitive and having us getting back to the Western Conference finals.

"But I do know you just can't blink and it's going to happen; you have to actually spend the time and effort. So, we'll see."

In the days that have followed, Garnett's coach and teammates have said the team's unquestioned leader was merely conveying the frustration they all felt.

And on Wednesday night, Taylor said he wasn't surprised by Garnett's comments, and that he has made similar statements to the owner in private conversations this year.

"He is very, very competitive and wants to win," Taylor said.

One of the things that has hindered Taylor from assembling the cast to support Garnett is the superstar's huge contract. Garnett makes $18 million this season, eating up a sizable chunk of the salary cap.

"It makes it difficult, but no more difficult than it has been in the past," Taylor said. "It won't make it impossible."

Taylor has decided to swallow hard and spend more money in the past, getting veterans Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell two years ago. It worked the first year, when they helped Garnett win the MVP award and the Timberwolves had the best record in the West during the regular season.

But things started falling apart last year, and the team missed the playoffs for the first time since 1995-96.

The going has been even tougher this season. The Timberwolves entered the night at 29-41 and have been unable to jell after a major midseason trade with Boston that brought four new players -- Ricky Davis, Mark Blount, Marcus Banks and Justin Reed -- here and sent Wally Szczerbiak and Michael Olowokandi to the Celtics.

With Garnett turning 30 in May, he isn't getting any younger. And he made it clear on Sunday that he wants things to change.

And Taylor said he welcomes Garnett's ideas.

"I have always valued his input," Taylor said. "He has not surprised me with any of his comments."
