Kevin Martin Returns to SPDL Tonight

Kevin Martin has participated in the Sacramento Professional Development League for the last two summers. The 2007 edition of league play began on June 4th, but Kevin, with a busy off-season of working out and visiting friends and family, has been away.

KMart's back in town.

Tonight Kevin will play in his first SPDL game of the season. Tipoff is at 7 PM at the Capital Christian Center. Tickets are $7 per person, and kids 12 and under are admitted free.

So come on out tonight and enjoy watching the Kings' leading scorer mark his return to the league, competing against other professionals who play around the globe in a fun, exciting brand of basketball.

Thanks, 1kingzfan! Can we expect the occasional picture from you?

(Hint! Hint!!!)

:)

Is there any way to know what nights Kevin is scheduled to play?
The schedule is here, but note the qualifying statement in red at the top of the home page. Nothign is written in stone.

Kevin Martin, Bobby Jackson, and Ronnie Price are all on team #1. Matt Barnes is on team #4. Matt and Kevin will go against each other in the All-Star games on the 29th, too, it looks like.

Kennadog...you grabbed the schedule for last year off the 2 The Hoop website. Barnes, Jackson, and Price are not playing this year.

Here's this year's league roster, although not complete...

No current NBA players appear.

One thing I hate about this site is getting timed out. I had just finished my post about tonight's game and hit Preview to review it, and boom, it was gone. I will try again in a little while.

Do what I did with my "names in the rafters." Type it in your word processor first and then cut and paste it onto the board.

Kevin Martin was assigned to Doc's Pro Med. As it turned out, Justin Williams also showed up tonight for the first time and was also on Doc's Pro Med with Kevin.

Tonight Doc's Pro Med squared off against Team DMC, led by ex-Jazz guard Milt Palacio. Team DMC outlasted Doc's Pro Med, 120-117.

Unofficially, Martin scored 33 points (plus 8 or 9 assists), and Williams chipped in with 10 and numerous rejections at the rim, as he was constantly challenged the whole evening. KMart scored from all over the floor, including a flying reverse jam and 30-foot 3-point bomb.

The SPDL schedule shows Doc's Pro Med playing again this Thursday and then Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the final week of the league. So those appear to be the days for close-up KMart viewing and hopefully, too, more of Justin.

However, I spoke with Kevin for a few minutes afterwards, and he said he is returning home in a week. So I cannot guarantee if and when Kevin will be at any other games.

Watching all that athleticism and quick pace tonight was quite refreshing after watching our Kings methodically plod their way to a lottery position this past season. The floor was just loaded with athleticism, much more than what was on our Kings roster last season. Very fun.

There were also a couple of nice long-range shooters out there that the Kings should consider for their summer league roster. The best of the bunch was Randy Green, a 6'-4" guard who played in the ABA last year.

Yes, ma'm. I have done that before when I knew I might be awhile. I didn't plan on it here, and the time got away from me. Thanx.

And sorry, no camera with me tonight.

(I went and looked - I actually looked at the right page, but accidently picked up the wrong link. Thanks again. :))

since K-Mart played a couple days ago, I was just wondering if anyone knows if he is playing tonight since Team 3 will be playing tonight. I am interested in going and supporting Kevin at the game!

BTW, this is my first post, but I have always been checking this site for the past couple years. It's great to finally begin to post here with you all! =]

If he plays, tonight might be one of the last times to see him since 1kingzfan spoke with Kevin, who indicated he was going to be returning home to Ohio shortly.

And welcome! Always glad to have someone start to post. It gets a lot easier after the first few times.

:)

Kingsgurl and I sauntered over to the Capital Christian gym on Thursday evening with the hopes of seeing KMart in action again with the same team he had played with on Monday night. Unfortunately, Kevin was a no-show, so I am not sure if and when he might play again. Justin did not make an appearance either.

We were told that Cisco had shown up to play the night before. I checked the box scores and Garcia was indeed there and racked up 33 points.

We enjoyed watching 6-4 ABA Guard Randy Green again. He tallied 26 points and once more appeared that he should be given a shot in some NBA camp. Great, smooth long-range shot and awesome floor vision. He made some killer passes threading the needle and handles the ball well. We'll see...

It's just going to be hit and miss if you want to see a King up close in action in the SPDL in the final week. There is also an all-star game at the conclusion of the league next week, so maybe then. There are 4 games left in the league this coming week, Monday thru Thursday, and the all star game is on Friday. Tipoffs are all at 7 PM.

SPDL Update:

No KMart appearance again this week on Monday or Tuesday, but on Monday night, both Francisco Garcia and Ron Artest showed up to play on the same team. Cisco went 30/12 and Ron went 29/6 to help their team win.

I'm trying to find out if Kevin has returned home yet or will play another time and perhaps in Friday's all-star game. Will post something if I can find out.
