"It feels good to feel like you have a coach that has your back again.." --Kevin Martin
Did I miss something? Were the other coaches picking on poor little Kevie poo? Maybe asking him to break a nail on defense?
On the other hand the first one, Kayte's interview with Westphal, was just very solid. Solid knowledgable interviewer, solid knowledgable answers. Nothing revolutionary, but nice to see something professional and competent once again.
I wish Kayte would do a 1 on 1 with me.![]()
She really does seem to be a good interviewer and obviously has knowledge of the game.

Or maybe he's actually speaking with some experience about the differences of dealing with head coaches who actually know their way around in the performance of NBA coaching duties and those who don't?
Eric Musselman was totally out of touch with his players. Theus, IMHO, was too aware of his records as a player ... records Martin was breaking right and left. Kenny Natt was the substitute teacher I don't think anyone really bothered too much about because they knew he wasn't going to be around very long.
Kevin Martin isn't perfect but he also isn't the whining cry-baby you always seem to want to portray him as being.
As far as Musselman is concerned, I really think the best game I've seen Martin play over the past three years was when the Kings played LA and Musselman had Martin running around screens, just killing Kobe on defense. Just wore him out. It was the best game against the best competition I've ever seen of Martin. Musselman wasn't all bad.

I think part of it was that Adelman rarely talked poorly of his guys in the media. To push that button, you pretty much had to talk poorly of Rick in the media first and then he might fire back. I think players don't mind being called out face to face. When you are in a small tight knit group, the "got your back" thing means a lot. If you have to use public opinion on players to help do your job as a coach, you probably are not going to get respect from any of the players.
I don't think I ever heard Adelman say anything critical of his players to the media. He was more likely to blame himself. The players never came out and criticized each other to the media either, at that time, that I remember. We only heard of "rumored" issues, nothing directly from the horse's mouth. I like it that way. I think that sort of stuff should be talked about face-to-face, behind closed doors. I remember at least once when someone asked him if ADleman ever got after them, he implied that they definitely heard about mistakes and poor play (like he could really lay into them) at practices and meetings.I think part of it was that Adelman rarely talked poorly of his guys in the media.
