Justin Williams returning?

The retirement means the Kings are down to 14 players and could add one more to the bunch.
I didn't get a chance to ask Petrie about his plans for the vacancy, but they may as well make the most of it with a relatively cheap young talent to be named later. Justin Williams anyone? Add another athletic rebounder/shotblocker to the group who just happens to come with the added benefit of familiarity.
To review, Williams was only waived (in Feb.) to make room for the players in the Mike Bibby trade. And while I'm not sure who his most ardent supporters are within the organization, he had a good enough name to outlast Darryl Watkins and all his upside last training camp. Williams is an unemployed free agent at the moment.

I do not think we'll see him again. He's NOT that good. And outlasting Darryl Watkins isn't exactly a reason to hire someone IMHO.
 
They got rid of two players in Singletary and Ewing just to squeak under the luxury tax. They are not going to go over it for the likes of Williams.
 
The most interesting thing in that blog post is way down at the bottom where Amick says there's reason to believe he was wrong when he wrote that it didn't look like Garcia would be extended this fall.

This is a good point. We have an extra roster spot, but no extra money (in the short term), so its unlikely we pick up ANYBODY to fill that extra roster spot.
 
Really, I think Geoff is done for a couple mounths. I think the next big (EDIT:After We trade Brad) "Kings Sign........." or "Kings Trade........" thread won't be for a long long long time.

Exactly.. And wont Williams command more $$ because of how long he has been in the league? It's his 3rd year, so wouldn't there be a raise for him if signed?
 
We don't even know if Thompson and Greene will really turn out to be STARTER TALENTS in the NBA.

So, please do not add another player ( named Justin Williams ) who's talent is at the most in the level of a second stringer. Let us just save the money.

WE ALREADY HAVE AN ABUNDANT SUPPLY OF THOSE KIND OF TALENTS.

And plus I think Justin already had his chance. Geoff had to have cut him for a reason. If he saw something in him he would have foud someone else to cut at the time.

Geoff aint no fool.
 
They don't need to add anyone, trade away maybe but not sign anyone. Justin wasn't any good and when he did play he showed nothing good that would warrant signing him. I still feel that if you can't trade KT then you cut or play him.

He showed shotblockling and rebounding, precisely the two things (or tow of them) we figure to sturggle with again this year.

The argument against signing him is simply financial -- we are pinned by the luxury tax. If we had the $$ he could be a useful guy to have around. Young shotblocker/rebounder.
 
Justin was a "reacter" not a pro-active defender. His blocks were not typically face up and his rebounds where just his leaping. He was too lightweight to be an aggressive defender. PLUS he has no offensive game at all just put-backs. His whole game is within 6 ft of the basket meaning no one guards him when he goes out further clogging up the middle. Doesn't bring the abilities of Shelden or Jason.

I think those above are right about GP going with 14 roster spots. Don't forget one slot is our 6-7 PF at the far end of the bench so in reality 13 active slots.

I agree, we have 13 active spots, and most teams go with a nine man rotation. Sometimes 10, but not 13. So I think any additions will be emergency additions because of injury.

That's the best way to put it. His whole game is just way too reliant on athleticism.

I agree. I never understood the virtual worship by some (if not many) Sacramento Kings fans for this one-dimensional scrub. Nice guy presumably, but only marginal NBA talent at best. It all reminded me of similar accolades Kings fans showered on the likes of Michael 'the Animal' Smith, Anthony Bonner, Juwann Oldham, Duane Causwell, O.P., and a host of other mostly scrub big men who found there way to Sac. Occasionally, they played beyond their mediocre talent level before the adoring crowd, but it rarely translated away from the roars at ARCO.
 
I personally jumped on the JW bandwagon just because he could board and block shots. Back when he first came to the team I dont think we had one guy over .6 bpg or 8 rpg.

When he finally got minutes at the end of the Muss fiasco season he put up more double doubles then SAR had the entire season (maybe Miller too).


Unfortunately I guess he was beyond bad on the offensive end to the point of being a liability.


But the fact is, people loved him because he attacked the boards faaaar better then any high paid starter we had.


That being said...I dont really want him back either. I'm on the JT bandwagon now :p
 
Back then I have a feeling that most every fan liked him.. I did as well.. Reason is because he did show some D in college, and it COULD have translated to the NBA if he would have worked harder on it. But after a year and a half of listening to people (including myself) demand playing time when he finally got it I realized that "ooooohhhhh that's why they aren't playing him... He totally sucks defensively"
