Larry David
Starter
Out: Landry, Head, Wright
In: Redick and 3 million cash
I’m not a huge JJ Redick fan, but he fits the profile of a player that would fit well next to Tyreke. He gives us outside shooting and his contract is serviceable. With Redick and Beno helping Tyreke and a Patty Mills or better free agent (just a profile mind you – actually a PG, pushes tempo, 3 point shooting, ect.) You’d have a pretty serviceable group – which wouldn’t really require you to further define Tyreke’s position. Start Evans and Redick. Bring Beno off the bench and have another 3 point shooter/pg for options.
Landry is probably walking this summer. He hasn’t set the world on fire, and its uncertain whether he’d even want to come back. Is Redick the final piece – no. Do the Kings get something for a player that will either walk or be overpaid, yes. Thus, I throw it out there.
Orlando likes him and he provides a lot of shooting to give Dwight space, but they might have to make a move. By all accounts, they will probably start Nelson, Arenas, Richardson, Hedo, and Howard. Bass is there, but he’s pretty much their reserve center and PF at this point because the Magic are very very light on post guys. While Nelson will sit more, Magic aren’t dealing him and handing the keys full time to Arenas at point. There aren’t a lot of minutes for Redick, and Orlando is going to pay a ton of tax. They will wait to see how it fits, but they might have to sell off Redick.
Orlando waives the other trash we give them. Landry gives them a backup PF, an actual PF, and some low post scoring when Howard occasionally rests. Moreover, Orlando lets Landry walk in the summer, and can either use the 7 million in Redick saving to resign Richardson … or if things blow up (with Gil and Hedo, it could) they could let Richardson and Landry walk for some pretty serious cap relief.
Finally, between the Bulls and the Jazz, Orlando can’t really trade Redick to most of the teams that would want him. Accordingly, sending him far away and out of the playoffs might be very appealing.
