Its actually why I may dust off an old old theory I had about one of the reasons the Kings sucked for so many years -- the homecourt advnatage was a BAD thing.
Let me explain -- for years and years and years we were terrible. But the thing was, we were worse than our record showed. We were terrible as in Bottom 5 in the league terrible, but only twice did we ever get picks down within the Top 5. The reason? The homecourt advantage we had gave us artificial victories. Maybe 5-10 a year. And the homecourt advantage is a wonderful thing when you are the top fo the league. But when you are a bad team, we actually shot ourselves in the foot year after year after year. If you had taken those old Kings teams and had them play in the Clippers building for the Clippers fans, the 27 win teams would win 20, the 33 teams might win 25 etc. And so year after year we were in position to draft Joe Kleine, Kenny Smith, Walt Williams, Bobby Hurley etc. rather than Patrick Ewing, David Robinson, Shaq or Zo.
You can see it again. On the road barely competitive. At home, can beat anybody. And so the result is likely again that high 30 sort of season. And again likely a #8-#12 type pick rather than a Derrick Rose. And that's how you get caught. And there's nothing to be done really. But there has been a here we go again vibe to the ways things have gone for a while now.
