Jason Thompson (merged)

absolutely burns me that slam mag rate him the highest chance to slip into obscurity. Hating on spencer last year and now this year JT. Its complete BS, 7-11 and 10 boards not bad for someone whose bound to fade away is it slam ?

Hate on JT and Hawes, there going to be great one day.

JT is outperforming Mikki from the get-go. JT just shows natural instincts for rebounding, especially in traffic and can score from anywhere within 18 ft. And boy can he run. He has to slow down on fast breaks not to outrun everyone!!! Luv it! :D

His stat line vs. Mikki is amazing for a first game with both playing 21 min:

JT 18 pts, 10 reb 1 block and 0 PF
vs
MM 8 pts, 0 (zero) rebs, no blocks, 3 PF

JT makes some rookie mistakes, mostly being out of position, but hey, for a first game he did great. Another great GP pick.

I'm not sold yet this year on JT. I was really happy for him yesterday, but I have a feeling he's going to be very inconsistent. As far as Spencer goes, I can really see Reggie eventually moving Brad to power forward and starting Spencer at center. He's just too skilled to not play 30+ minutes a game. I think Mikki moves to the bench and plays 15 high energy minutes for us.

Yesterday's game was yet again another reminder of how soft we are of defense, espcially in the middle of the paint. Spencer had 6 blocks and needs to be on the floor for us to have any sort of chance to defend in there.

Soon to be starting lineup:

SF: John Salmons
PF: Brad Miller
C: Spencer Hawes
SG: Kevin Martin
PG: Beno Udrih

Bench: Cisco, JT, Mikki, Bobby (hopefully Brown), Sheldon, Donte

Rot on bench: K9, Q, Bobby (hopefully Jackson),

Please don't coin the term "Rot on the Bench" and associate it with Bobby Jackson. That's not very cool. I love to watch that old guy play his heart out.

Many, but my 12th-14th rnd sleeper picks of him in my preferred 20-man fantasy leagues are looking good after 1 game. Now if I can just quickly swap him off for Carlos Boozer before the bubble bursts... :p

hahaha, so true!!

Other than his speed, what's interesting to me about Thompson is his lateral quickness. As he gets stronger, he could be very good defensively. In the future, both he and Hawes should be taking a lot of charges.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game last night due to studying for midterms and such, but from what I've heard JT had an exciting debut. I don't remembering seeing a Kings' rookie performing that well this early (maybe J-Will, but I honestly don't remember). I wish I could have seen him play. Even if the team as a whole has a long season ahead, I am still very excited to see the growth of our team and our rookies.

Of course he's likely to be inconsistent. He's a rookie. I'm not going to automatically discount him for that either. I'm not sure what "sold on him" would mean, but I liked what I glimpsed as possible for JT last night.

I'm sure that Thompson will for a while, be inconsistant. So what? He's a rookie and thats what rookie's do. We're in a rebuild. That means playing the young players so they can get experience. I would like to know what you base your observations on.

And what is it with your vendetta against Bobby Jackson. He's not the player he used to be, but, at the moment, he's better than Bobby Brown. Did he park in your parking space, or beat you to a cab? He's beloved by most of the people in this town, and all you'll do is make enemies by picking on him.

Exactly the point. For a first game by our first rounder, can't remember in 20 years another who did as well in debut game. But we did get a "glimpse" of what the possibilities are and they are encouraging....so far.

That's the problem with most of these magazines. They don't put a lot of critical thought into these "love/hate" projections. Mostly, they praise safe picks and "sexy risks" (aka: young, physical freaks with little basketball skill). Pick someone who doesn't fit that criteria and the uneducated sports writers love to rip it apart.

I did not see the game, but the stats of Jason Thompson is a big WOW for a rookie playing less than 30 minutes in his first game.

We now have 3 "bigs" ( Miller, Hawes, and now Thompson ) capable of getting double digit rebounds and hopefully can get us over the hump on the rebounding department problem. I hope Donte Greene ( another 6' 11" ) follow suit ASAP.

I hope coach Theus accelerate the development of our future front court starters.

Suggested Rotation:

#5 Miller 7' 0"( 30 min ) SUBS: Hawes ( 18 )
#4 Hawes 7' 0"( 12 min ) SUBS: Thompson ( 12 min ) Moore ( 12 min ) Williams ( 12 min )
#3 Thompson 6' 11"( 12 min ) or Greene 6' 11" ( 24 min ) SUBS: Garcia ( 12 min )
#2 Martin 6' 7"( 36 min ) SUBS: Garcia ( 12 min )
#1 Udrih 6' 3"( 30 min ) SUBS: ( BBrown 9 min ) ( BJax or Douby 9 min )

IMO, this is the ideal future line-up/starters for the Kings - tall and athletic.

Thompson scored a lot on hustle points today just by being scrappy and energetic, which is all that MIkki gives you on offense. Plus he cleaned the glass like Windex, 10 boards in 22 minutes? Once he gets more confident in his offensive game, I expect to see him beating slower PFs off the dribble. Once he gets stronger he can start operating in the post.

Mikki just might be sweating.

Note: It might be happening even faster

Rebound or else – Kings coach Reggie Theus made a declarative statement after the Kings' 98-96 loss that he will play the "guys who rebound." Mikki Moore had already learned that lesson.
After being whistled for two fouls early and going without a rebound in 20 minutes, Moore did not play in the final 16 minutes, 25 seconds of the game. The Kings – who won the overall boards battle 45-40 – gave up 10 of Minnesota's 11 offensive rebounds in the first half en route to 15 second-chance points for the T-wolves.

Not cool man.. BJax is one of the most loved players in Sac Kings history.

Nothing against BJax, but I too would like to have seen Brown and I'll tell you why.

First, Jackson has said from the start that he didn't want to play extended min. (15 min was good he said)

Second, so far, BJax has the worst shooting percentage on the team which isn't promising in a close game.

Third, Jackson isn't our future at PG and neither might Beno

As far as the game, IMHO Theus made a mistake in not playing Brown. Beno sat out too many games and practices and didn't deserve 35 min. BJax's offense wasn't helping, and we needed offense to make up for our poor defense. And, Brown put in the most work during the preseason, so if Thomas deserved 7 min. then Brown deserved at least that many.

As much as I love the little PF, I must hope that Brown wins the backup PG slot, and BJax ends up 4th on the depth chart at SG. Before mid season I hope to see him in his new uniform ( that of a coach ) a business suit sitting next to Thomas in the stands behind the bench.

Contrary to what you might think, I'm not going to argue with any of your points. I also hope Brown wins the backup pt job, with emphasis on wins the job, and that means he outplays BJax.

I also would rather Brown get 7 minutes instead of KT. I think that Reggie has a tough job. He has to get minutes for his young players, and at the same time keep the continuity and resemblence of a professional team on the floor. There were times last night where the insertion of Brown may have aggravated an already bad situation. Or, he may have been a spark off the bench.

How many times have you seen a close game go south in a couple of minutes filled by turnovers and bad shot selection. I firmly beleive that as Brown starts to play with more control, his minutes will also go up.

If Reggie sticks with that promise to play guys who rebound, JT should be starting in no time and Mikki will soon be less visible than KT.

This is exactly what i was thinking...but i wouldnt really say that would be the future lineup, because if hawes keeps playing like he is i think miller will be out soon

Granted, it's only been one game against a bad team. I watched him make a LOT of rookie mistakes. I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but he dribbles way to much. He needs to learn how to move without the ball, post up, throw the pass out and gain ground in the post for an easy FG. We'll see. I wasn't impressed with him during the pre-season, but you never know. Lebron had a horrible pre-season during his first year, then tore it up during the regular season. Hopefully Thompson will do the same.
