Yes, I had that same conversation about brussel sprouts wiht somebody else recently too -- but I don't even hate them. With ketchup they are ok actually. Bitter is ok with me. ;)

Actually I do have plenty of food hates, they just do not match up particularly with many people's. I hate some very popular foods. Not sure whetehr I would put one of those on my island or not, just because it might confuse people who actually like the crap. :p Biggest thing is just that I don't really see myself as either "right" or "wrong" on matters of taste, so its hard to formulate an al time "everybody should hate this" list.

That's actually a big reason that I opted to sit this one out. Figure you just have to draft what you think is horrible and hope that enough people agree with you to get some votes.

Everybody in my family loves the damn things, except me. We always had them at Thanksgiving. :mad:

Taste is so individual, I don't think I could come up with a lot that "everybody" should hate. Some people are masochists, too, making it even harder. ;)

And to address the 'hate' part of this draft that's been discussed...I use the term 'hate' completely in a 100% loose term...I don't want to go out and send a pitchfork and torch mob to the people/things I choose to send on my island.

Hate is used as a term to 'hype' the draft.
Not as a Death Threat-esq term.

If I choose a celebrity it is because he/she annoys the hell out of me, not because I want said celebrity DEAD,

And another note.
This IS a personal and quite random draft.
You are to vote what would be your most annoying/awful island in *your* eyes.

You are building your very own most horrible island.
The voting will be random, because the island is viewed in the pickers eyes only.

The whole picking part, I think, is going to be better than the voting because we all dislike our own things.
We just have to hope our dislikes mesh with the voting public!

Alright...I was actually hoping to NOT get the number one pick, simply because I wasn't sure which direction I wanted to go in. Of course, being a science teacher is going to influence my decisions...and having taken a parasitology class in college has definitely determined my first pick. To get things started, my island will be infested with:

Loa loa - African Eye Worm

Could I have picked worse parasites? Sure. But this one is not likely to kill you, and it sure looks wicked to deal with. All my island needs are some deer flies to transmit the parasite and you've got one miserable experience on your hands. Adult worms travel through the subcutaneous tissues causing nasty, itchy, swollen rashes...but every once in awhile, the worm will migrate through the conjuctiva of the eye. It doesn't affect your vision, but can reportedly be very painful as it moves through the eye. Truly painful and miserable...

D-Mass, it seems we are thinking along similar lines. This eye-worm is definitely something that would fit well on the kind of island that I'm planning to draft, great pick.

Durian Fruit

Yay Food! Oh what? It's a fruit? Great! Oh What? It grows on a tree? That ok..What? It has spikes and can weigh over 20 pounds?

Durian Fruit, love it or hate it, most hate it. One of the most dangerous fruits in the world dangling above you on a tree.

Andrew Zimmerman describes it as the texture of bad mayonaise.

I for one have tried this fruit, it has the smell of a bathroom filled with bulls, the texture is that of a sac whose outermembrane is that of soft saran-wrap, the texture of the fruit is mayonaise like, like rotten milk, and the taste, putrid vile avocado mixed with rotten raspberry, the smell stays in your nostrils and mouth.

So the only food on my island is
1 - Extremely dangerous, resembling a spiked flail dangling from a tree-top
2 - Extremely hard to open, not to mention spikey
3 - Has its own parasite which is indigenous to only the durian fruit, Conogethes punctiferalis, otherwise known as the durian fruit borer.

4- Foul odor, a fruit banned from almost all hotels in south east asia
5- Andrew Zimmerman can't eat it. WTF?

As open ended as these first few picks look, and how long this draft is, I as commissioner decree that movie character's can be picked starting in the SECOND round.

Ie, Im not going to choose 'Will Farrell' but I am going to choose 'Ricky Bobby' to live on my island. That way, every other character Farrell has played is available to the drafting public.

Will Farrell as *himself only* would still be draftable, but as would every one of his on-screen characters.

And seeing this is just an outlandish island of suffering and misery, cartoon characters ARE also available to draft.

I can draft Scooby Doo if he makes me miseable.

Pretty much: If it is a thing/character/creation, real or fake, it is available to be drafted.

**No fake foods/beverages, however. Keep those real as there is only a required two rounds committed to them.

I select a coating of hot asphalt for my whole island. Everything covered in this mixture of hot tar and sharp gravel... No shaden no protection, just all burning hot asphalt
