Is Petrie Done?

Don't know. I suspect that he is happy enough with how things have played out, and likely is not agressively pursuing any trades etc.. That doesn't mean something won't come along, though.

FTR, I'd be very content going into next season with the current roster. Petrie has done a good job this summer, he doesn't need to do anything else this OS.

Unless I'm overlooking somebody, we've got 12 players, even if Darnell Jackson gets to stay on as a towel waver. I don't think we're satisfying the minimum payroll requirement, either. So either I shouldn't be posting before I've had my morning coffee, or we will have to sign another guy or two. I don't expect them to be important signings, though.

Last time I checked we were ~ $42 million and the Minimum is $43 Million and 13 players. So even if we keep Darnell Jackson (doubtfull), we still have to sign someone else.

He'll sign at least another guard. The question is whether that's a Ryan Thompson/Christmas type or if it's someone more established still looking for a deal.

Clearly, another guy or two will need to be signed, however, I expect more action surrounding Dalembert and potentially Landry around the trade deadline...

Samuel Dalembert 12,200.00
Beno Udrih 6,655,000
Francisco Garcia 5,500,000
Tyreke Evans 3,880,920
DeMarcus Cousins 3,374,640
Carl Landry 3,000,000
Jason Thompson 2,178,000
Omri Casspi 1,254,480
Donte Greene 930,700
Hassan Whiteside 850,000
Antoine Wright 1,069,509
Darnell Jackson 854,389
Pooh Jetter 473,604

The numbers above assume: (1) min deals for Jetter and Wright; (2) Jackson isn't cut; and (3) I can find the right min numbers and add.

That's a total of 42,221,242 as of today. The min is 43.5. So they have to spend 1.3 more ... unless Wright and Jeter didn't get a little bit more money.

If Jackson is waived they have to spend at least 2 million more.

I think they are waiting for a team looking to clear 2 million in cap before the season. Where the Kings waive Jackson, take the 2 million dollar contract, and 2.5 to 3 million in cash. Otherwise, they might keep Jackson and spend 1.3 on the best player that will take that amount.

What about Don Sloan? I was under the impression that he is still under contract?

He would have to make the team, which I can't see happening now, but he probably did get a little bit of cash up front for signing.

Don't remember where I heard it but if I recall he got around 80 thousand for signing an unguaranteed contract. And I agree! I doubt he'll make the team after his showing in summer league.

I think he makes a few more min signings for the backcourt, then stands pat til around the deadline....

...Afterwhich I see us moving a frontcourt player for a vet guard or wing. I think GP wants to see how our backcourt rotation of Reke/Beno/Cisco/Minimum contract guys works out. Another thing is that we're still iffy at the 3. There wasnt much consistancy from Omri or Greene last season, but both players have starter potential. By the deadline we should know what we have at SF, and whether we need an upgrade at the position.

I don't think they have to meet the salary number at the begining of the season. They can wait to see who's waived or maybe a trade to make it up.

Our cap situation is amazing. I hope Petrie does nothing but sign Slamson whatever it takes to get to the vet min. This team is in the exact position I want it to be in. Come trade deadline, I'd like to entertain offers for Sam, Landry and/or Thompson. I'd love to keep all of them, but I *really* don't want to overpay for Sam or Landry. I'm hoping Thompson is a keeper, but who knows.

If Cousins pans out, it's going to be really hard for a guy like Tyreke to want to leave the team.

When does camp start? Seems like Petrie is set with his current roster and will sign someone out of camp... but the salary minimum piece has gotten me all confused... so, if the Kings waive Sloan and Jackson, they could sign 3 more guys... maybe three camp guys to bulk the roster up to 15 and really search for diamonds in the rough. Without that, how else do the Kings get to the minimum salary? They would need to sign a <gasp> veteran; but who? And why is Geoff waiting to do that?

No way to tell whats in the works. Apparently the Kings were interested in Josh Howard before he resigned with Washington. Petrie said he was going to let the smoke clear before jumping into the freeagent market. Obviously at least one more move needs to be made. I don't know if the Kings are seriously interested in Jackson or not. My gut tells me no, considering how many bigs we have at present. I just don't see how Jackson fits into all of this. Its possible that both his and Sloans contracts could end up being part of a trade for a player that makes more than both of them. But with the cap space the Kings have it wouldn't be necessary to balance any trade thats of the small variety.

Whatever! As stated, we have to add at least 1.3 mil more to our salary base. Knowing Petrie, he'll wait until sept. to do it..

I'm not sure if that is right. Sham is usually pretty accurate about these things and is showing 43.4M right now:

I think the main difference is that Dalembert had a trade kicker and the additional is not listed on some sites.

That includes Jackson and Sloan who I doubt get picked up, so we're still probably looking at one more guard at something over the vet minimum.
But who? Who is out there available to sign? Udoka? Roger Mason, Jr? Delonte West? Kyle Weaver? Patty Mills? Other than Mason Jr, these are all minimum guys...
