Is it really that bad?

The sky fell such a long time ago, I'm not sure how it could fall now.

Basically the Kings lost 2 games (Memphis is better then we give credit for) they shouldn't have, and probably picked up 1 win they shouldnt have on the opening trip. So they are about where they reasonably ought to be.

Relax, I think this team is on the right track but is a ways out yet still. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I don't think it's extraordinarily different from a lot of young teams going through growing pains. We come to the realization that one of the young guys is probably not going to be that good (Thompson). Another young guy, shows his immaturity by coming into camp in very bad shape (Greene). One of the vets in the midst of the younger players doesn't like how he is being used and plays like a dog (Landry). Those are the dissapointments. Even with that, this team should be better than last year, especially with a trade or two. I'm still thinking 30-35 wins.

Shh! Your rationality is not allowed around these parts

I don't think it's so much the record, but the lack of improvement, apparent bickering, funky lineups/substitutions by Westphal, on top of the new arena problems/move-the-team atmosphere leading to the overall sense of despair.

My only concern is the DNP-CD for the kids.

The kids need to play, and play at their natural position, period. As much as we want to win now, their development is more crucial. There's absolutely no reason that Wright or Head or Jackson should see minutes while the kids warm the benches. If we are not planning to play them, we need to trade them, for their sake, as much as ours.

my concern is people playing for stats; wrestling rebounds off their teammates and jacking up huge 3 pointers with 15 left on the shot clock.

Its not all bad though we have won some games and there have been isolated good performances.

Its not so much the results that worry me and other posters on here. It's the lack of team continuity. There is no offense or defined roles for out players and as a result its 5 individuals playing one on one against the opposing team. I have seen better team work in the pick up games I play.

This. It's not about our record, I'm totally fine with losing to the suns, Lakers and grizzlies (not so Twolves...). It's about how we're doing it, how our defence looks, how guys are moving around on offence, how they continue to clunk FTs, how Westphal is using Darnell Jackson as a primary offensive option, how Greene is sitting on the bench, how JT is being played at the 3, how Antoine Wright is getting minutes, how we can turn the ball over off a defensive rebound when the entire Suns team is already heading down the other side of the court, how we are having our PF shoot outside shots with 15s on the shotclock on half our possessions.

The sky isn't falling yet, but aside from our fairly good start earlier on I don't see that much that there is to be happy about, when there should have been a lot to be happy about.

JT is 24 and 1/2 years old with 2 + full years of play, and is getting worse not better.
Darnell Jackson is only 7 months older than JT, has 2+ years of exp, has been playing better than JT, and is giving the Kings exactly what they need at the position.

Why should "the kids" eat up precious playing time if they are proving they don't have the skills that the Kings need?

There's not a lot be be happy about at this point in time. I agree with just about everything mac said. Losses don't bother me, it's how we lose. It's the fact we could play better if coach stopped playing musical chairs with the rotation. It's the fact our offense is actually worse than it was last year, with our main core returning. I'm not talking points on the board, but the way in which the offense flows, recognizing mismatches, having a better understanding of what passes to make and not to make, clock awareness, good shot vs bad shot, etc..

Some of the problem is youth no doubt. But guys aren't playing as well as they did last year, and for the most part, I don't think it's lack of effort. A coach should put his players in a position to succeed, and utilize their strengths. I see the exact opposite. Zero confidence among our players. Guys repeatedly taking shots they shouldn't. Guys being used the wrong way.

So what bothers me isn't the win/loss record, but the fact we're not moving in the right direction with our play and chemistry. Pretend for a minute we took away the scoreboard, and just watched the way this offense is run compared to last year's. Look at how comfortable guys were last year in the offense, and the shots they were getting. We weren't winning, but everything looked much smoother, much more fliud. Guys had a better idea of their spots in the offense and where shots would come from.

However it is early, and I'm not on the fire Westphal bandwagon. Too early for that nonsense. But we can play much better, and UTILIZE our talent more effectively, and still lose, but I'll be happy.

JT was very good last season with the exception of a couple of months in the middle where he fell into a slump. This season he came in to camp at the best shape of everyone and looked very good. And what does Westphal do? Play him at SF... Of course he's not going to be good. That's not his position. Why don't we try him at PG for that matter and expect him to produce? A guy works his *** off during the offseason and comes in in great shape - let him get consistent minutes at his natural position and find out what you can get from him. Jerking him around between positions and then blaming him for not producing is just stupid.

You guys are amazing here on KF's :

Now JT sucking this year is PW's fault?!

Do you see any of our other bigs being forced to play sf? You think if you moved Kobe to pf he wouldn't struggle? How can a player suck if he's not even playing his natural position? Joe Montana would have sucked as a wide receiver. Get it?

Revisionist history. Westphal only played him at the 3 after he lost out in competition at the 5 and the 4 where he is behind two guys at each position. Thompson's problems are not because of Westphal. Westphal didn't play Thompson at the three because he thinks that's his natural position. He played him there because the other threes have played lousy and that's the only position where he can give him minutes against some teams. Thomspon is at the far end of the bench now.

Thompson is one of the "losers" because of the addition of Dally, Cousins, and Jackson. He's odd man out.
