For missing so much time during this crucial stretch, I say crucial because before he got injured, we were coming together as a team and it looked like we were going to see some light at the end of the tunnel. But then he goes down, ends up missing all these games, and these Kings are back to square 1. I mean, I'm frustrated with Kevin because if he's going to be the leader of this team, you can't miss this many games because of an ankle sprain. Lead by example and toughen up, Kev. I've had the same injury and trust me, it's not something that keeps you out for that long. For me, 1 or 2 days max, but I can usually play on it the next day.

It was posted in another thread that the problem is not with the sprain anymore, it is because of water building up in the tendon behind his achilles. Anyway i'd rather have him recover to full strength rather than speed up the process and risking a more serious injury. We aren't in the midst of a playoff race anyway, we are on a rebuild, so there's is really no special need to hurry up Kevin's return.

first the ankle sprain we dont know how severe it is... im no athlete but ive gone through ankle sprains there are ones that are too stiff but you can still play and there are those that feel like you cant put any weight on it at all... of course he is a professional athlete even if he wanted to play the doctor and the conditioning guy will still have the final say..

its not his fault that he got injured... sure if you want him to play through the pain and further aggravate that injury then thats a bad sign for us... from what i have heard its not the ankle any more.

this is a test for the other members of the kings when martin is down arent you happy that they are able to cope? that they can still manage to play a somewhat decent game? we had 2 100 plus point games and thats minus our 20+ point offensive output from martin.. if other kings respond to his absence imagine when he returns... were not in a hurry to compete right now were mixing up things.. perhaps raising some vets trade value so we get something good in return if we trade them..

honestly id rather have kevin martin fully healed raring to go than to try and put him on the floor with that nagging injury we dont want him to be remembered as the guy who is skilled but always is injured right?

right now the kings we have are with out their main offensive player and their super sub... but when they get back i imagine well be pulling through the win column just fine

It's not his fault. And I don't blame him one bit for sitting until he's completely healthy. I'd put my own personal health before the chemistry of my team any day. Sorry, but injuries are just a part of the game.

didn't we learn anything from the past ?

After what happened to Webber in Dallas in 2003 - we should know better than wanting players to come back too early from an injury.

I am sorry if you'll get offended, but putting the blame on Martin just doesn't make any sense at all because of the many reasons already mentioned above. I think it is moronic to even have entertained that notion.

But of course, I understand your frustration as a result of the many losses we've incurred because Martin ( and so did Miller too ) had missed so many games. I myself believe that we have a complete playoff team. If we just had the important pieces ( Miller, Hawes, Thompson, Martin, Udrih, plus Greene, Salmons, Garcia, and Brown ) all healthy and playing together from day one of this season, they probably could have developed the identity and chemistry that the team needs to win more games now.

And you are right. After 12 games into the season, and now Martin and Garcia are about to be inserted into the rotation again, the Kings are almost like starting at square one again. :(

Hell no. Disappointment is Brad Bozo Miller failing several drug tests with warnings but still keep right on toking away until he reached max limit leading suspension penalty for first 5 games of this season.

Yup. I think it's fair to be disappointed that Kevin's hurt and hasn't returned. He will return when he is ready to go and should not come back too soon. Injuries are part of the game, the season, and every team goes through them.

Absolutely ridiculous.

No. If a player is part of the long term future of a club you don't rush them back from injury for meaningless games.

Oh... my...

This is one of those threads you know was created just to see how much **** could be stirred up.

I'm very glad you can play on an injured ankle the next day and I'm sure your agent, your trainer, your teammates and everybody else who counts on you being totally healthy in your job is greatly relieved, too.
I"m sure you and Kevin have a lot in common. I, for one, am so glad to know we have an NBA player posting here on an occasional basis.

EDIT: I've added a poll (public) so we can get a real idea of just how many posters share your opinion...

Definitely not dissappointed in Kevin. The situation is frustrating sure, but I'm not down on Kevin for this. I've had sprained ankles too and some I could play on and some I couldn't, I'm fairly confident that they're not all the same. Anyway, I don't see any real reason for him to rush back before he is really ready to go.

No way I'm disappointed in the injury or anything related to the injury. I am somewhat disappointed in his seeming lack of court leadership. I was hoping he'd demand the ball and become more of a leader. Let's just say I'm still hopeful. ;)

This macho stuff is pure nonsense. Thats why he missed this many games. Thats why Bibby was so ineffective for an entire year with an injured wrist. If you nip these things in the bud and get healthy, then there's no problem.

If Martin had taken a couple of games off when he orginally sprained the ankle, he probably wouldn't have missed all these games. If I have disappointment in him, its in his stupidity to buy into all this leadership and macho crap.

Bingo!

I'm disappointed in Kevin Martin because good basketball players don't get hurt if they don't want to.

I'm also disappointed in my parents for being short, because I'd like to have been six feet tall.

I'm also disappointed in the weather here in Sacramento because I'd like it to be sunny 365 days a year.

Heck, I'm disappointed I feel compelled to even write this post, but there you go.

I never understood this whole manning up thing. Kevin Martin is injured, I don’t care if he has to sit out for another month to get perfectly healthy. He’s part of the future and I like him to be healthy and play for a long career…I’ve already seen both Mike and Web come back too soon from an injury and we all saw how that turned out. Mike’s hand didn’t heal and he just didn’t have the same stroke for a very long time. And Chris, well we all know what happened.

Why don’t we just let the guy heal and come back when his body is ready? There’s no need to rush him back…On a positive: This is a huge door/opportunity for some of our other players.

Absolutely not. We're not contending for anything this year anyways, if anything I'd say having Kevin out for a while is almost a good thing to get us in better position for the draft.

And, what factorial said.

Wow...asking a bit much are we?

As the posters stated before me....what purpose does it serve for Kevin to come back earlier than necessary ? We wanted to have a good shot at a high draft pick this year while seeing our young guys develop, certaintly not at Kevin's expense but it's working.

Capt: I'm disappointed that BOTH of my parents are 6ft and over, so are my sister and brothers, but I fell "short" of 6ft being only 5"9.

I doubt there will be any grouping of games played by the Kings this season that would fit my definition of a "crucial stretch."

Yah, I am disappointed that Martin cannot play injured..

Just kidding.. Why play an injured guy? Why get mad at a guy that shouldn't play injured? Your sprain and his sprain are probably nothing alike. When I sprained my ankle I was hobbled for about a month..

I've sprained my ankles a few times, and from experience, found it very susceptible to re-injury during the long recovery phase. I would gingerly be walking around, and then bam! my foot lands on a tiny imperfection in the sidewalk and my whole ankle would just collapse under me. On the bright side, I looked foward to the seeing the pretty stars floating around my head.

I don't question Kevin's desire to play (Beno, on the other hand...). He's not the towel waving type, so that may be deceptive. I agree on the decision to err on the cautious rather than risk re-injury or potential injury to other parts of his body (one weak link may cause other links to fail...). I've read that he may come back by the end of the week (along with Cisco?), so that's very good news!

#1 We are not at a critical time this season as Kings are rebuilding and its only 10-12 games into a totally new experience.
#2 To think an all-star caliber player is "disappointing" due to injury is not a very basketball centric comment. A person may be disappointed he is injured but no way Kevin is a disappointment.
#3 With Kevin in the line up we win 3-4 more games than now so sure we're all disappointed but not in Kevin.

exactly well put
i am not disappointed in kevin there is no need for him to rush back from the injury

I am surprised by how long it is taking to recover (water on the achilles? is that something exotic or just another way of saying "swelling" that anybody who had a sprained ankle experiences). But disappointed? I would be disappointed if this were the NBA Finals. This is not disappointing. People still need to get a grip on what this season is and is not. I would even argue its been a GOOD thing in as many ways as not to have Kevin out for a bit here. Nothing major or long term of course. But just having him out has allwoed:

1) Jason Thompson to keep getting minutes even with Brad back to munch them
2) Donte Greene to get off the pine and get some major minute experience
3) the book to probably be closed for the last time on the Douby experiment
4) Bobby Brown's big night
5) John Salmons to raise his trade value by munching shots as a #1 option
6) maybe a move up a draft position or two...or maybe not. Our record is right where it should have been Kevin or no Kevin.

In a rebuilding year these sorts of injuries to vets can be as much blessing as curse, and "disappointed" doesn't play into it.
