IPOD Decades Songs Draft - Rankings underway

I just realized I have not taken a song from my favorite band! I would not know what to do on my Island if I could not listen to at least one of their songs! :D So with my next pick:
If THIS is the theme of this round, then I think it's time I broke out my AC/DC. Not my favorite song by them, but one that wasn't taken in either draft yet, and it should be. Also, the first Bon Scott one taken in this draft..:

Just listening through peoples lists with my logitech 530 soundsystem. I have favorite lists that I like almost as well as my own, though I won't reveal their owners. There is great variety in this draft, and for that I am thankful.:D

If I leave here tomorrow, would you still remember me?
It doesn't hurt that it's 9+ minutes long (quantity) but there's some serious quality here, too, even if every moron in the world at every live show in the world does call for whatever band happens to be on stage to play this song - Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (released 1974).

I wasn't in last year's draft, but I was wondering if something like that was going on!

Okay, with my next pick, I want a classic of the 1980's... so if it was an 80's song, it would need to be about making money, right? Also, this song was basically me and my brother's theme song for the mid 80's... epic, iconic, awesome, I select:

Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money) by the Pet Shop Boys from their 1986 album Please.

I don't know whether this will get me any votes. I suppose I shouldn't care. But you know, competition.

I really, really like this song. This is my inspiration song, plus the video is burned in my memory. Even if you don't like country music, I implore you to give this a try.

Standing Outside the Fire - Garth Brooks (1993)

I caught his central park show when I was 12, and I became a huge fan. Dude "officially" filled central park with over 200,000 fans. Crazy awesome.

Garth is awesome. I've seen him in concert at Arco and in Reno. He puts on an unbelievable show. Great pick by the way, one of my favorites by him.

This may possibly be one of my favorite songs of all time. He was a true performer and when he sang this song you could see how much he felt his music.

Michael Jackson - Human Nature (80's)

Strangers - The Kinks (1970)

I didn't know that much of the Kinks other than their famous "You Really Got Me" and "All Day and All of the Night" hits of the 60s (both of which I performed once on guitar for a local cover band). But then I saw Wes Anderson's The Darjeeling Limited a couple years ago. This was one of the many excellent songs on that soundtrack, and quickly became a favorite.

SacKings7 is up with Kingzrool on deck. Since I don't know if SK7 has fixed his computer problems, I'm sending a PM to Kingzrool. :)

The Spirit of Radio - Rush - 80's

If you know the source of my screen name, and you know classic rock... it is a little surprising it took me so long to get around to these guys.

It is a great irony that Rush's greatest song is a lament about the capitalistic element in the music business... Ayn Rand would be so ashamed.

But the song is a great one from my life's soundtrack.

Great pick Francisco, that was on my list. And yes, I'm still having computer issues. I will let you all know when my computer is up and running again (soon hopefully).

On to the draft. Since my list was actually on my computer, I have to go off the top of my head. Back to the 80's:

Beat It - Michael Jackson - 80's

I'm actually not a fan of MJ at all, but I really like this song.

And she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in a circus
My next selection is Round Here by Counting Crows, the first song off of their debut album (1994) and to me their quintessential song. It wasn't their first single, it wasn't their most successful single, but it's the one that convinced me August And Everything After had something to say, and it's the one I keep going back to. I couldn't imagine my iPod without it.

After that, I think I'll let my favorite song off of their album slip off my list, part of the purpose of my participation is to inject variety. I'm just gonna let it be known that August and Everything After changed my life. Excellent, excellent pick Capt. (That's my 4th favorite song off of that album, two songs from there are #1 and #3 all time for me, easy.)

No youtube link, on account of the only options were these "dubs" that I didn't like; the only video with an actual good version of the song included a slideshow that was so offensively stupid, that I refuse to link to it on general principle.

Anyway, my next pick is:

Don't Disturb this Groove - The System: Don't Disturb this Groove (1987)

Not a fan of Rand but you can certainly say the song fits right in with the themes and ideals from The Fountainhead, and dare I say that the mantra of the average Rush fan seems to be that Rush's musical brilliance is beyond the grasp of the average music consumer.
