It could be because I had a Jim Croce greatest hits album that I played constantly when you were little, KG4.

Nice pick. Not a huge Metallica fan myself (at least anymore), but in my high school days they were one of the mainstays. Definitely considered that song but kind of moved away from that direction.
That was maybe my favorite Metallica song back in the day but for some reason over time its become less and less so. Of the 4 good albums I probably listen to Ride the least nowadays.

Last 80's pick. Yikes. I could certainly use the whole clock and agonize over this because there is no shortage of nice 80's songs and great artists who will be left of my ipod.

Screw it. I'm going with guys who were at the very very top of the whole rock world, right before they imploded into drunken pettiness between the singer and the guitar player and they all went off to lesser projects (yes I know Van Hagar has fans, I just never met one in person).

And I can't have an ipod without at least one little old school guitar shredder solo (brief as it is).

I'll catch the board up in a bit but I do have time to post my next pick...

My Sharona - The Knack - 70s

[yt=My Sharona]kVdnqEyToqg[/yt]

One of those songs you recognize within two or three notes and can't get out of your head for weeks.

There ain't no sense in all your cryin'
Just pick it up and throw it into shape
For my next selection I'm going '80s with some INXS: What You Need (released on album in 1985).

Looks like the audio on the "real" video has been disabled due to rights issues. Here's a live clip from the MTV music videos awards from back when MTV played music:

This wasn't the most popular to the general public, but most Metallica fans seem to love it, and I'm a Metallica fan.

Fade to Black - Metallica - 80's
Awesome Pick! I was going to take this one but was thinking along the lines that not many people would not really know it. I am glad to see it has made an appearance in the draft! Perfect fan choice SacKings

Hrmm... I almost commited a faux pas; good thing I decided to check the draft board for the first name and the last name of the artist of the song I was going to pick, because the first name wasn't spelled correctly. Anyway, my first pick from the nineties will be:

[yt=In the park, after dark...]nDxsM5jLNxM[/yt]

Remember the Time - Michael Jackson: Dangerous (1991)

(from scrubs)

carla: and then turk ran off singing "safety dance"...
elliot: carla! didn't you learn your lesson last time, when you told him the commissar's in town?!

I select:

Ruby Soho by Rancid from the 1995 album ...And Out Come the Wolves

Love Rancid... there were other 90's punk bands, but this was always my favorite one...

[yt=Video]1NxfShLDLoI[/yt]

[yt=Live]T56TW_YyTZo[/yt]

I noticed that I do not have any female artists so far on my IPOD. So, with my next pick another one of my favorite bands.....

Just a Girl- No Doubt (90's)
http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=33:a9fexzrrldae

[yt= Just a girl]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WxLecGCq-qE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WxLecGCq-qE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/yt]

Guess I'm up then?

Well, now that the Top Gun Anthem and Jump are off the board, I need to make sure one of my pump up songs is on the island...

The Final Countdown - Europe (1986)

[yt=The Final Countdown]0ZkllM8znx4[/yt]

Arco diehards will remember this being played in crunch time during the (not so) glory years.

It also is partly responsible for this brilliance:

[yt=A Magician Named GOB]zhnYPecc1YE[/yt]

More, from Allmusic, who hails it at "bombastically brilliant" and wikipedia. You either love this song or you think it represents the worst of the 1980s.

By my count LoungeLizard has timed out, which means I'm up. And now that Francisco is starting the 70's, I think I should probably finish mine off before anything else (unless a "can't miss" pick suddenly comes to mind). So, it's about time I took some Zeppelin. If there's any song that showcases all their talents simultaneously, it's this one:
