I heard Memphis is trying to Trade Thabeet

Do it in a second. But not for Kevin please. As much as I have pioneered the 2-20pt scorers in the backcourt does not work idea, Kevin has to have more value than Thabeet right now. Even with Thabeet, we still would need a stud big inside and Kevin is the best piece for that. But if you got me to the point where the frontcourt was Stud + JT/Hawes + Thabeet + Brockman I would feel pretty good about having nearly everything covered. Throw in Donte's (since Noc probably goes) ability to play a little 4 and you are largely covered. And young covered too.

Given Westphal's desperate search for someone to shut down that middle, and complete lack fo concern about offense in doing so (Brockman anyone?) Thabeet could have a chance to really make an impact here in a way he can't behind Gasol and Randolph.

Yah but if you get expirings and thabeet back for kevin and either Noc or Beno you have max money this offseason. Even though Sacramento isn't a huge town, I think if we have a max contract to offer plus that young core we can land one of Bosh/Amare/Boozer. While I'm not a huge fan of Amare or Boozer due to defensive limitations if you have a guy like Thabeet on the roster combined with a perimeter defense that could include Tyreke/Garcia/Greene then one limited defender isn't a big deal.

Thabeet's having a very good defensive season--he's shown that he can really rebound, and really block shots--a recipe for a good defensive center. Actually I'm more than intrigued about his potential on this end, and it seems like the Grizz are haphazardly just throwing him minutes. Who cares what he can do on the other end, if he can do these two things well, not to mention he's young? Again, I won't mind sacking a 1st round pick for him, but we'll probably have to give up more given that he was a high lotto pick--maybe even throw in Hawes. We'll see.

A project who is already "developed" enough to fill our biggest need. He blocks more shots in 10 minutes a night than any of our losers do in 30.

And waiting for things to develop is not a problem at this point as long as that enthusiasm is there on the team. In fact right now we are being scuttled by our ALREADY developed players. It is precisely the kids, and their potential which had excitemnt building. Adding another high upside guy, and one that does precisely what Westphal has been looking for our guys to do all season, is a flat out win. You get all your holes plugged wiht young talent you can actually at a certain point just sit back and wait, knowing that time is on your side and in a few years you are gong to be dangerous.

I'm all for bringing Justin Williams back as well but I don't think he's the answer.

Looking at 82games.com data with Thabeet on the floor Memphis is a very good off. rebounding team but on the other end of the floor as a team Grizzlies rebound bad 67,1%(with Gasol and Randolph it's 71%). Interesting fact, Hawes has the highest team D rebounding percentage among Kings. With off. rebounds he's on the other end though. Rebounds are rarely collected at 3pt line.

does anyone legitimately think hawes will ever be anything but soft and weak on defense? it's not about waiting for hawes, he's never going to be anything but below average in terms of shotblocking rebounding and defense. thabeet has tremendous defensive potential and has already shown flashes of being a dominant shotblocker. hawes just is never going to be the type of center that I and seemingly most of the people on here want. he's the Kevin Martin of centers pure offense and a total liability on defense. honestly I'd much rather have thabeet who needs time to develop but actually has the kind of skillset that could help us be a real contender in the future. he has time to develop alongside jt reke casspi and Donte. I'd love to have thabeet and would totaly give up hawes for him or k9 and Sergio would be amazing.

Hawes will never reach the top defensive 5, but it's only 22 and he can weight up a lot. Look at Gasol at his age (he was Fido Dido) and look him now. If he learns to use his length and weight he can develop some defense. He hasn't just nobody to learn from.

I really like Thabeet. He is a very solid defender right now, and with more PT (he won't get it at Memphis with Marc and Randolph) he may develop faster his attack abilities. It's just the opposite project player of Hawes. I think having Thabeet and Hawes with Brockman coming from the bench would be borderline OK, as long as you can use one or the other depending on how the game is going.

Spencer will put on weight, mature as a player, and become a quality nba center. I have no doubt about that. He has the tools, just no idea how to use them yet. As for when he will pan out? Who the hell knows. He needs to come off the bench for another year or two, learn from a veteran center, and get a chance to start in a few years after he's matured. He's being forced into a role he's not ready for yet.

As for Thabeet, I like him, I think he will grow into one of the better defensive centers in the league. But its going to take a little while, although he's better than anything we have right now. If we're willing to trade Kevin, and we have KT's expiring, and are willing to part with JT or Spencer, we can get a better player than Thabeet. He would be a good addition to our roster, but we also need a big that can make an impact on both ends of the court. And I think we have a chance, with some of the pieces we are willing to move.

And that is exactly the problem with Hawes.

Like every player who got lucky and picked to play in the NBA, and including those BUST, all have the tools to play in the NBA. I think most of us are confusing potential from actual performance on the court. Three years in counting and all Hawes had shown is potential. One should now think maybe those once-in-a-blue-moon moves that he had shown are more of like the lucky moves that he did not intend to do, but just got lucky he was able to do them?:D

Hawes is beginning to be famous on those game highlights though. He gets featured on those highlights where a player embarrassingly blocks a 7' 1" center.

Hawes and Beno for Thabeet and Conley

We get a defensive big and a talented PG in Conley. Both of which are young and can develop with our other young guns.

I would LOVE this trade this is like a dream trade. I'd love to swap hawes for thabeet I'm a huge hawes hater and can't stand another second of his ole defense where he let's people run around or through him and then he gives his bs halfhearted shot blocking attempt where he gets 1 millimeter off the ground and then slaps your wrist.

plus conley is a good young player a good creator and still has a lot of potential and could be two starters for us.

Yeah, but, we'd still need more PF/C players. I don't feel Conley is a need right now, but rather a want.

I'm not even clear on the want -- age aside, Beno is actually the better fit here next to Reke.

And on the other side, the idea would eb to add Thabeet to waht we alreayd have up front and have three young guys, all wiht weaknesses, who would not have the pressure to be there every niht, but who could be substituted according to need. Just swapping Hawes for Thabeet doesn't get you far. Not even 100% clear you win in the end. I'd love to have Thabeet here to patch a massive hole and be a potential long time defensive anchor. But creating a bunch of other holes at the same time isn't the way to go about it (assuming oyu have any choice in the matter).
