Hypothetical: Suns v. Pistons... Who wins? (split)

the Pistons have a reputation for being able to slow high-paced, offensive minded teams down and forcing them to play a half-court game.

Pretty much. Detroit isn't a media darling like the Suns, so it doesn't surprise me that very few people know that.

If the Pistons and Suns are both forced to walk the ball up the floor, Detroit becomes the better offensive team. It really is that simple.

Yeah, that and this:

Offensive efficiency:
Phoenix 111.4
Detroit 106.2
Don't be "stat man". We all know that doesn't tell the story as well as actually watching games and comparing the teams' strengths and weaknesses.

The Lakers have a higher rating than the Bulls. Who would you take in a seven game series? The Kings have a higher rating than the Magic. Would you bet against Orlando and Dwight Howard in the playoffs if they had to play the Kings?

You tell me. But considering Detroit scored 96.6 ppg before the All-Star break and 95.0 points after the All-Star break, I'd say about the same.

Um, no.

Webber allowed us to slow the game down more because he added another post threat to our roster. We scored fewer points but, but we got much better shots and played much better defense.

Our halfcourt offense since Webber got here has been the best we've ever had. It's really, really hard to force tempo on us.

Um, Kstat just criticized me for going solely based on the games I've watched, so I provide stats, now you are mad?

I criticized you for saying the Suns could beat the Pistons based on how they played against other teams.

And yes, that is a joke. That's like saying I think the Pistons can beat the Suns this year because they spanked Dallas or Orlando.

What in the heck are you talking about? All I've been talking about are matchups, as in, I don't think Detroit matches up well with Phoenix, and I provided some stats on offenisve efficiency to counter your claims about Detroit's vaunted offensive efficiency. It has nothing to do with how Phoenix or Detroit plays other teams.

Mad? No.

But I think it's obvious that "Offensive efficiency" numbers don't mean that one team is better than another, neither is it a valid way of analyzing a playoff series. Which is why I gave the two comparisons I gave. Those numbers are a joke, in my opinion.

My point was that Detroit's offensive efficiency would help them slow the Suns down. In other words, the Suns aren't as efficient when they're playing against a truly efficient team. Match them up against a methodical offense that can attack you many different ways, and it's obvious that they don't do as well. No efficiency rating is going to tell the true story.

Suns are not invincible, even in the lakers series the lakers took them out of their offense in 4 out of 5 games, they were not taking shots within 7 seconds of shot clock as they want to. If a team like the lakers who are not that great defensively this year can do it then a better coordinated team like the pistons or the bulls can easily take them out of their offense.

But I dont know if the other teams will get enough love from the refs as much as the suns do, if Amare and Diaw can always ride on others back and dont get called for fouls then rebounding will be a problem, if Amare shoots 20 odd free throws every time he gets on the pick and roll and initiates contact with defenders then he will be unstoppable, if Nash and Bell are allowed to flop on defense then it will take the other perimeter players out of their game. But even with that much help the suns dont seem invincible, I would rather pick the warriors over the suns, they play some real good defense with some solid athletes and are not flopping every time

hmm... and what about Detroit's record before & after Webb came? Is your point that Webb hasn't helped Detroit, or has actually made them worse?Obviously stats are stats, but I think anyone who knows anything about basketball would argue that Detroit has played better since Webb was added.

I think Detroit's a better team with Webber. I think the Chicago series is going to be tough, but I sincerely hope that the Pistons come out on top. From there on out, I think the team I fear the most is the Spurs.

We will see how things go, and I will be rooting for Detroit every step of the way!! :)

My only point was that their offensive efficiency was relatively the same. They may be better, but I was just responding to kstat's point that their offensive efficiency has gotten so much better since Webber arrived. The stats don't show it.
