@#%^*#) heat!!

We have no A/C in our house and our house collects heat -_-

I just hope it doesn't get to 112 like last year, it was between 105 and 115 for a week or two.

It was like 105 yesterday but like 10 degree's cooler today.

I started to panic when my A/C suddenly turned off the other day, but most days I turn it on and by 8 pm I'm covered in a blanket because I'm cold.

The heat itself really doesn't bother me, I think after 95 degrees it all feels the same ;)

Having lived in the Valley most of my life I have a 5 year policy. I will patiently listne to people that have jsut moved here (Fresno) for 5 years after which I tell them to either shut up or move. Sorry kids that is life in the Big NO we get hot in the summer VERY HOT. We hit 109 yester day and 110 on the 4th. Or to steal a phrase from Harry Truman: If you can't stand the heat get out of the Valley.

PS Viking great Avatar!
:D Been in the valley (OMG I just realized:eek: ) 40 years this summer. At a certain point, I think its crosses over from complaining to bragging. ;) I have to admit, the heat is harder on me than it used to be. When I was young, I just thought no AC in my car was inconvenient (and too expensive an option). I think it would just about kill me now, to drive around with no AC. :p

Not me lol, I feel a big difference between 95 and 105.

On a side note, anyone ever played basketball in 112 heat?

I have once and it's not fun at all lol that and being out of shape I had to stop before I collapsed and hit the pavement while running o.O

You'll black out from that o.O

Oh, how I miss living in Santa Barbara...June gloom is my favorite weather.

I'm currently in Humboldt County to finalize the lease on my new apartment and took a walk out in the fog this morning in search of something better than free hotel coffee. Not supposed to get over 67 degrees during my time here.

This really is heaven.

OMG!

That's Rover and Stripe!!! I haven't thought of them in a long time. They were good dinosaurs. And great companions here in the forest in the early days.

Humboldt. That's my hometown. Arcata anyway. After a while that weather can really grind on you. Santa Barbara, I have family there as well. That is some good weather.

Oh, I love it. Grew up partly in the Bay Area, a few of those years in San Francisco itself, and always got a little bummed on the days when the sun came out.

Yeah, I definitely favor that weather as well.

Here's a typical "warm" day in Arcata.

Quick and amazing factoid:

High temp in Redding today?: 111
High temp In Eureka/Arcata: 67

They are all of 60 miles apart, at almost the same latitude.

60 miles of dense forest which ends up at the ocean. Eureka and Arcata get that typical "Bay Weather" although Arcata seems to burn it off in the afternoons, more so than Eureka.. I lived in Redding for two years as well...

A more shocking contrast is Bad Watter Basin and Mt. Whitney. seperated by 147 miles but alomst a 15,300 feet of elevation change (BWB is -283, Mt Whitney is 14,505) The two are at virtually the smae latatude and yes Today it will be 125 at Bad Water but probably 30-40 at the top of Whitney

LOL funny story the 95 Tacoma I sold a few months back was the first car I ever owned with AC. I inherited my Grandfathers old Dodge PU and he did not put AC in it. Was on the top of my todo list untill the trany went out...Suffice it to say it is STILL on the top of the "places to spend near $1,000 when I can justify it" list

Wow. Good luck and all that...

I hope you'll take your camera and find the time to share some coastal pics with us.

:)

I love Arcata!

One of Kingsfans infrequent posters (and one of my better friends from grad school) teaches at HSU now, and I made it there several times a year in my last years in Cali.

I miss it :(

Wow, you ARE a Bay Area native. I grew up overseas in Europe (Germany, The Netherlands) in which overcast grey was the normal color of the sky most of time, and even I like a little sunshine once in a while. ;)

Overcast grey skies? Sure that wasn't industrial pollution?;)

Oddly enough, I think that attitude actually came more from the school years spent in Southern California -- a rainy day in Los Angeles means the smog is gone and you've got a great view of the mountains everywhere from Altadena to Downtown LA.

I do like sun, but I like brisk sun. Favorite weather in all the world, even more than the coastal fog, is the few short minutes when a rainy morning and a sunny afternoon overlap.
