GS reported offering Barnes and Bogut + 1

they just seem to be pinching pennies. not willing to go 2 mil higher not sure they want to eat the 20 mil in expirings to get a 3 mil player

It appears they were prepared to sign both Igoudala and Calderon to multi-years deals for probably a combined 18-20 million annually.

This isn’t to get into the merits of those offers. Instead, you can’t call them cheap simply because they don’t agree with your assessment of what constitutes properly paying Evans.

PS - Thanks Captn. That's my point. I think the Lakers are going to cave, make the trade, and this is moot. But if they refuse, I think this is the Kings best option.

ok this works

Utah gets

bogut
Jimmer

Kings get (with a salmons amnesty)

Barnes
jefferson
Biedrins

GS gets howard

we then have Jefferson and Biedrins as 20 mil worth of enders. problem is we would be paying out quite a sum this year with the amnesty an all just to land Barnes.

We could try and throw hayes somewhere to help ease the salary pain.

Well to support this idea:

Also: Latest signals on Warriors say GS-Dubs still aggressively exploring their trade options but ONLY w/Jefferson & Biedrins. NOT Bogut

Depends on what kind of candy GS is willing to include. I don't touch Jefferson and Biedrins for a late 1st. Would have to be Barnes with Outlaw or Hayes going back (we don't have 23M in space to take it all)

So if I told you that going in to next summer's draft/free agency, we would have this lineup, and that it would cost about $42M, what would you think? (In parentheses is the number of years under contract)

Jimmer(1+RFA),McCallum(2+RFA)
McLemore(3+RFA),Thornton(1)
Barnes(2+RFA),Outlaw(1)
Thompson(3)
Cousins(4-5, already extended)

On top of that, IT, Vasquez, and Patterson would be RFAs. We'd have $18M to iron out the PG situation and get another rotation big man, and we'd likely have a first round pick in the mid-20s from Golden State, even if we made the playoffs and lost our own pick.

It would be very costly up front, but there's a core of Cousins/Barnes/McLemore that's kind of cheap going forward a few years. Is that core plus a bit of a question mark at PG (and the cap space to do something about it) worth basically a $27M hit this year? I don't know, but if the FO wants to be "aggressive"...!

That 27 million dollar hit isn't quite that large (semantics). With the minimum salary going up to 90%, much of the "hit" would have to be spent anyways.

I'm not sure how it would come into play if at all, but there should be a trade exemption generated for the Kings with the Evans trade.

Well, yeah, it would have to be spent, but it could be spent on somebody who would see the court. It's not the same thing spending that money on players and putting it into a trash can and lighting it on fire.

I'm uneasy with what has happened so far and I do not know what vision they have. I am waiting for the paint to dry.

As far as someone who would see the court, that player probably wouldn't be an expiring. Part of their plan, I don't know.

I've raised a question a few times about Barnes, and here is a demonstration of that question.

Is he actually a future legit starter? His extreme statistical similarity to an old friend illustrates what we don't know:

Barnes Rookie '12-13: 25.4min 9.2pts (.439 .359 .758) 4.1reb 1.2ast 0.6stl 0.2blk 1.2TO
Casspi Rookie '09-10: 25.1min 10.3pts (.446 .369 .672) 4.5reb 1.2ast 0.7stl 0.2blk 1.3TO

I am sure you have watched both of those players, and if you have you know that Barnes is twice the player that Casspi is.

Well, players just sent GS to Utah. Was it for Iguodala only or part of a bigger picture for Dwightmare as well?? Certainly could be some pieces the Kings could use changing teams??

Com' on Vivek. Vivek should use his Golden state ties to work a deal to get Harrison Barnes. The kings can trade for bogut and Barnes or klay Thompson, by trading either jimmer or outlaw for a second round pick to clear a little more cap space.

The kings wouldn't have to amnesty salmons, if my calculations are correct, as long as they shed either jimmer (to utah) or outlaw (to Portland) in the trades already discussesd.

Looks like that's out of the question at this point. Amazingly, the Jazz ate $24M in dead salary WITHOUT getting a guy like Barnes for apparently two first-round picks, the first of which is already looking to be in the 20s with just the Iggy addition. I can hardly fathom how huge of a tank job that is. We could never have possibly competed.

With Vivek I do think we have a chance, we do have the room to absorb a contract, Barnes would solve a huge need for years to come.

Yeah, shocking. Remember when the Suns sold a couple of late firsts for 3M/ each? Crazy to take on 24M of dead weight for a couple of mediocre picks
