Bricklayer

Don't Make Me Use The Bat
We be in a bit of trouble.

Artest ( F ) -- Jesus. Sorry if that offends people. But...jesus. Can hold off no longer on the "F". Maybe it was, maybe it was not, but the accumulation alone is just too much. Ron, please quit firing up threes! But could not force home things inside either. Even after an open court steal, could not finish. Blew layups, everything rolled off the rim, was repeatedly blocked... After an atrocious offensive half, just as randomly stepped up and hit a buzzer beating three while floating to his left. But then just went right back to the struggle in the second half. Just as much of a concern as the struggle itself is how it looks -- looks like he has no clue what he wants to do out there right now. He just looks confused, with none of the command of the game you need from your star. Considerably bothered Jamison on defense, but not nearly as much on Butler. Ron led our charge up the standings, right now he's leading it down.
Thomas ( D+ ) -- was working on a very middling first half, but was spending as much timre whining and complaining as actually playing, and it culminated when he stupidly got himself tossed in the third after clobbering Caron Butler on the head and opening up a nasty cut which kept Butler out for a quarter while he got stitches. Game itself was on the lower end of ok -- grabbed some baords, cut to the hoop. But his conduct, and then actually getting tossed...boo Kenny.
Miller ( C+ ) -- started off still playing with no confidence, and came out refusing to shoot once again. Eventually warmed up to medicority, and hit a shot here and there. A couple of jumpers, a couple of ugly drives. But never really established anything. Boardwork was inferior, but blocked a few shots in there when not politely stepping out of the way as various Wizards went flying by for dunks. A shurg, but at least did not actively suck.
Wells ( C ) -- another active but sloppy start. This time thankfully did not get kicked out. But never really took off either and turned ina thoroughly middling performance highlighted only be a few nice steals and one nifty baseline dunk in the early going. Took a big elbow to the nose in the third, but appeared to be ok and played the rest fo the way.
Bibby ( C+ ) -- did a lot of our early scoring, but there was a lot of slop around the edges -- blown layups, bad passes. Disappeared in the third, as the game got ultra-scrappy and the Wizards started to pull away. Finsihed up with a very one-dimesnional 20 point night, but the only guy doing anything on offense.
Reef ( C+ ) -- had some apparent mismatches in there, but we didn't go to them much and while Reef got a hoop here and there, he was never able to make much of a difference. Did a solid job on the glass. Began to struggle with turnovers like the rest of the team late.
Cisco ( A- ) -- big second quarter -- you could see last game that he was rounding back into form, and this time out turned in one of his better quarters of the season. Maybe not quite as dynamic as the numbers made it sound, but still likely our best player of the half and got us going there for a brief bit. Was solid in the second half, but unable to produce the same spark as we spiraled to defeat. Lone bright point of the night.
Hart ( INC ) -- a few unremarkable minutes in the first half, and then garbagetime
Price ( INC ) -- garbagetime
Potapenko ( INC ) -- garbagetime
Monia ( INC ) -- garbagetime

Adelman ( D ) -- Just no excuse for this one. No Arenas. On our home floor. The second night of a back to back for them. And we we just terrible. We even managed to hurt their leading scorer in Gilbert's absence (Butler), and we still couldn't make a significant push. We are loking disorganized, demoralized, and lost. We were damn lucky to have pulled out the Seattle and Utah games or this streak could be a collapsing 7 now. Of course the coach will always take a big chunk fo the blame, and clearly he hasn't had the answer. But what is the answer? What's to blame for this? Ron is playing awful, and the turth is that may explain it right there -- our leader is dragging us down wiht him. But many others are off their games too, and even if it is Ron, why exactly has he suddenly lost his feel? I go back to Indiana..because that was where this started. But even if that disturbed him somehow, what did he catch? A disease? Rick went with the same rotation, disturbed only by the various sucking, injuries, and whining to refs that plagued us all night. And of the entire crew, only Cisco gave us a game. Yuck. In any case, we are sucking now, dropping games left and right. And if we keep this up we could still blow our playoff spot. Damn good thing we got that Utah game or they would be breathing down our necks.

F - to Kenny Thomas for getting ejected because he couldn't keep his mouth shut. I don't know if the foul was really flagrant or not, and I don't particularly care, but when the game is tight you shut up when the ref warns you!

Wow, we're in a midst of a spectacular slump. As the slumps go, this one is pure, diamond A+ of a slump.

I saw every minute of both games that we lost at home but I can't quite put my finger on it, why is it that we suck so powerfull. It's like as if everything is "wrong", not just a thing here or there... What on Earth is going on?

L for Lack of passion, pride, determination, and anything resembling basketball skills?

sigh..

games like this are tough to handle. especially back-to-back. :(

are we ever gonna get out of this slump?

Team grade is

And as far as the problem, I proffer the following:

When GoGoGadget attends games at home, we win.

Yes, it really is that simple.

C'mon Brick...GOTTA be F's all around, with the exception of Garcia. Oh wait, and Potato, he was 1-1.

I suppose Bibby kept us in it awhile...he might get a reprieve.

curious to see if Brick pulls out the F for Artest tonight... I know he's been holding out.

I think he should get an F. there is just no excuse for his sorry offense lately. sad thing is, his impact is also gone.

when we first got him, his impact alone would give him a B. but now? what happened? don't tell me he got tired because he's the only starter who took months off during the season and 73 games the last season. if anything, he should be "rounding up to form" because his "training camp" should've been over by now.

mike, i could understand his recent shooting slump -- he probably is really tired because he has logged many many minutes already. doesn't mean i like it. he should find other ways to help the team. kinda hard to give the ball up, though, if you know your team mate's gonna brick a shot or turn it over anyway.

bonzi i have no idea why he keeps on missing layups and turning the ball over. no clue whatsoever.

there is just no cohesiveness.i don't know. they're just so inconsistent.

they don't even deserve an F!! what the hell happened to this team?????!!!!!!!... - losing 2 straight at home to teams whose starters are out because of injuries.. plus 2 striaght ejections... all of a sudden, im starting to think... playoffs???!!.. we might as well not get there it would only add further embarassment... ughhhh... WAKE UP YOU GUYS!!!!!

On the plus side, this is the third consecutive game where Jason Hart hasn't stunk up the floor, last game he was a definite plus, this one he was a small plus.

Well, they have won a few without me in the audience.

Somehow.

Oh yeah, for the sake of accuracy, they also win when I attend games on the road.

Yes, dear G3, BUT when you are in attendance they win. Period. It doesn't matter if they sometimes manage to win without you. It is your presence that ensures a victory. I am more convinced now than ever...

We need to take up a collection and get that girl to ALL the games!!!!!

Brick, you will be whole heartedly forgiven by me if you bypass the grades tonight!! Sometimes is too painful and pointless to state the obvious.

G3 needs season tickets to all nba arenas and a pilot and a jet right now!

Placeholder "Ha ha. I beat you!" post dedicated to our beloved Pixel Pusher.

Appropriate. I'm feeling pretty beaten down by these past couple of backsliding efforts from the Kings.

And with that comment, ImaKingsFan (certainly not to be confused with "ImaTroll" ;) ) wins the thread.

Aw shucks, now I feel bad.

I had a funny joke to add to this, but it seemed inappropriate and I chickened out.

Brick, you did it anyway.

This has NEVER happened before but . . .

I THINK THAT YOU WERE TOO EASY ON THEM!!!!!!!! Too many C's given tonight. #@%*

I don't have a grade, just my thoughts.

You look at it as a question of the players you have playing, their skills, talents, faults and abilities, and the system or scheme they are working within.

The team misses Martin more than I thought they would. This is mianly because Martin creates space for others in the offense more than anyone else on the roster. Yes, Artest draws double teams, but doesn't create space since he clogs up the middle. When Martin cuts, he draws defenders with him which opens up space for the post player. When the defenders don't follow, Martin is open for a layup. When they follow but do not rotate, he is open for an outside shot which HE can hit. Artest and Bonzi are not making their outside shots and are not reliable in doing so. When Bonzi or Artest cut, they stay in the middle.

So with no Martin, you have Bibby, Bonzi, Artest, Miller and Thomas. Miller and Thomas haven't had a real good game lately. Bonzi and Artest are shooting poorly from the outside and mostly scoring inside. Bibby is not a creator and has been shot-happy as of late. You not only do not have movement, you don't have players prone to creating a lot of movement. Noone is being shy about saying Bonzi or Thomas are making bad passes and turnovers, but everyone is overrating Artest's ability to create shots for others in the post. Yes, he is a better passer than either of those two and he demands double teams, but he always passes too late. By the time the ball leaves his hands, the space created and passing angles opened are gone. He is an alright passer, but not a timely passer. Miller is the best creator/passer, but he is forcing things and shooting subpar.

And for the question of scheme, there really isn't one. There are post plays run for Artest, but there seems to be few options planned off of it. It's just throw it in and will it to happen. A couple weeks ago the Kings were willing everything to happen, but the observant eye could still see there was no real offensive system in place.

And a final thing, outside of this stuff, is that the team has an attitude problem. When you have two ejections in two games, you have an attitude problem. When Bibby shakes his head at the coach for telling him to stop jacking up threes, then you have an attitude problem. This isn't from Artest. This likely sprouted during the early losses and lack of leadership. Now Artest is the leader, but he isn't really a leader on the offensive end and I think he's quite honestly naive to the offensive problems the team has. Bibby wanted to be the man, this is his time to do it by running the offense.

Adelman, c'mon! 44 minutes for Brad!!! AGAIN!!! In this game tonight with Kenny out that still isn't justifiable.

Brad should look real good against Portland.
