It was right there, then we took out Reke at the same time they put in Nash, a dubious combination, and by the time Reke returned 3 minutes later it was over.

Beno/Nash:

Beno was not the windshield.

P.S. Let all those who before the season started had both JT and Greene out of the rotation by the 8th game of the season raise your hands. Liars.

Theme is going to be: Really Ridiculously Stupidly Long Placenames

Official Boxscore

Casspi ( C+ ) -- neither the best of games nor the worst of games, this night was prety much defined by Omri's shooting, which was..well neither the best nor the worst. But he shot them, and he shot them, and he shot them, and on a night when he was 4-11 from the field, he was 3-9 from the 3pt stripe. That's the role he has been shoehorned into, and his success as that shooter pretty much makes or breaks his grade. Was quiet in the early going, but hit a three late in the quarter from Reke, and poked away a ball when Nash fumbled it. Think it may have been his only first half hit as he Missed and missed some more in the 2nd quarter adn we wasted a lot of good looks. Starting knocking down the occasional shot in the third, but it was a decidedly mixed bag when he passed on the shot and drove toward the hoop. There were forces and turnovers, but also a nice dump off pass for a dunk. Thankfully there was no Beasley out there this time, and none of Phoenix's 13 SFs particulary hurt him.
800px-New_Zealand_0577.jpg

Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateahaumaitawhitiurehaeaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokawhenuakitanatahu -- of course the notorious all time champion, a ridiculous name for a non-descript hill in New Zealand that roughly translates to "the summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one".

Landry ( B+ ) -- hey we lost, our coach is destroying core parts of our chemistry and youth movement in some sort of bizarre attempt to emulate Captain Bligh, but there were some signifcant positives, not the least of which was that facing a team who's frontline might inspire chortles in high school, Carl responded appropriately and went right to work inside from the very beginning. He even consented to get back on the boards, althoguh the good and the bad of it is that they were mostly hustle boards on the offensive glass, including a few off his own misses -- on the other hand he has fewer defensive rebounds this season than Beno (20 to 24). Was not finishing inside in the third, but was getting to the line, where again he was shaky. Finaly stepped forward again in the 4th, and had some nice tough scores around the hoop showing patience and using pump fakes. As it was with Omri, had no challenges on the defensive end against the Suns' starters, but unlike Omri did get exposed later when the Suns brought ultra athletic Hakim Warrick into the game, and Dalembert was having to try to deal with him (and not very successfully) because Carl could not.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch_station_sign_%28cropped_version_1%29.jpg

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch -- and if you are ever visiting jolly old England, amybe you can stop by this dinky little village. Just good luck asking directions. Note that this one is kind of a cheat: it was designed on purpse to be the longest name in England back in 1860 in what was basically a publicity stunt. Translated it means: "Saint Mary's Church in a hollow of white hazel near the swirling whirlpool of the church of Saint Tysilio with a red cave". Catchy.

Dalembert ( C+ ) -- the Suns are often a difficult matchup for true centers as they give them nobody to guard. Last night was no different. Daly started the game in amusing fashion, channeling Webber from back in the day and with nothing bigger to worry about than Robin Lopez showing off skills even he did not kow he had. Started with a wow galloping drive to the hoop all the way from the 3pt line for our first score, then got a piece of a JRich drive. Not to mention a nice drop off pass to Beno again, then why not a jumper. Something of everything early. Then he remembered who he was and it was back to turnovrs stumbling backward and missed jumpers. The problem was, so mysterious/disorganized is or offesne that we kept going to him for a while. Once that nonsesnse stopped, he settled in and was ok. He challenged a few things and after a slowish start on the glass began to chug them, but there was no dominance, and his impact felt less than in other games. Had problems with Warrick's quickness when forced to guard him in the 4th.

Udrih ( C+ ) -- pretty good game offensively, although mostly as a scorer, but this grade gets complex because tonight it was his turn to just get annihilated on defense. Was going back and forth with Nash in the early going, with neither guy even preteneding to stop the other, but which team do you think is going to benefit most from that in the end? Got bad enough we switched Reke onto Nash, but then Jrich powered over Beno. At the end of the third with us making a move, our momentum was broken when Childress beat Beno back door and he fouled him for a 3pt play. Loses half a tick for not being able to keep things going at all when we took out Reke for a few minutes in the mid 4th and the lead quickly blossomed from 2pts to 11 pts and pretty much game over. Unable to contain Nash any better at that point in the game than he had earlier either.

Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein -- the name of somebody's farm out in the middle of nowhere, South Africa. Well..maybe a farm. There is some debate that it actually might be the name of a village. because everybody wants to fight over being called Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein obviously. Should be easy enoguh to figure out, just figure out where "the spring (lit. Fountain) where two buffaloes were cleanly killed with a single shot' is and voila, that's your Tweebuffelsmeteenskootmorsdoodgeskietfontein.

Evans ( B ) -- played on ok first half, but not an impact one. Was not aggressive again early and settling for jumpers but was helping on the d-glass. Finally had an aggressive take in the late first, but on our final possession of the quarter drove but did not see DeMarcus wide open under the hoop and kicked it out instead. With Nash killing Beno, got switched over onto him at times, and did somewhat better, which is not to say he stopped him. Did come up with a nice pick of Nash in the open court and full court layup. Really came on strong after the half as a passer. Found people again and again in the third, and added some very strong defense in the late 3rd and early 4th challenging everything and harassing the Suns SFs, coming up with numerous steals and deflections. Logged heavy minutes, and after leading us all the back to a 2pt deficit in the mid-4th that could have actually been a lead if we had just quit making dumb mistakes, Westphal made what ended up being the game determining decision to give Reke a few minutes of rest. What had been a 2pt deficit suddenly exploded out to an 11pt deficict in under 3 minutes, and by the time Reke came back it was too late. Came back in and tried to lead us back again, scored two hoops, one inside one outside, started tryign to find people again, but it was too late and we never generated significant momentum. Grade is held back somewhat despite a stat stuffing 18pt 7reb 9ast 3stl line by 7-18 shooting and an inability to really impose himself as a scorer on an undersized Suns frontline that last blocked a shot in the Pleistocene era.

Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsijänkä -- a very exciting Finnish bog, it was also the name of an ill fated Finnish bar, the Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsi-baari, which went under in 2006 after its word of mouth campaign amazingly failed and its famed "Eat at Äteritsiputeritsipuolilautatsi-baari" motto proved too long to fit on merchandise.

Bench

Cousins ( B ) -- a strong bounceback game for the big guy. Didn't really start out that way as he was quickly victimized by Frye at the 3pt line after coming in, and countering Frye with jumpers of his own, which is just dumb when playing against a weenie. But then finaly went down inside and muscled him on the glass, and started getting aggressive in there. Played well and aggresively in the third, ripping away several strong rebounds in traffic, but missed FTs at critical times to really hurt our chances. Tried on defense in the 4th, but not able to anchor the interior. At leas tlooked more interested in doing so though. Twice in the last 3 minutes got a rebound knocked away from him by his own teammates, first by Beno, then by Casspi.

Mamungkukumpurangkuntjunya Hill -- a big name, for a little hill in the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara Country (stupid stupid language) of Australia. Its translation? "Where the Devil Urinates". Somebody was drunk.

Head ( INC ) -- brought in very briefly for defensive purposes giving how badly we were getting toasted by Nash, did nothing, and left.
Bangkok%20Nights.jpg

Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit -- otherwise known as Bangkok to non-ridiculous people. It translates to "The great city of angels, the supreme unconquerable land of the great immortal divinity (Indra), the royal capital of nine noble gems, the pleasant city with plenty of grand royal palaces and divine paradises for the reincarnated deity”, which is a slogan, not a city, and of course inspired the catchy 80s pop tune "One Night In Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit".

Jackson ( C ) -- The Good: taking advantage of the Suns frontline in the early going, some great hustle tips; The Bad: kept taking, and bricking, long jumpers, turned it over, ALL of his reboudns were offensive as he has grabbed exactly zero defensive rebounds in the last two games; The Grade: not good, but have to reward the nice hustle. Just could not hit shots.

Wright ( INC ) -- missed multiple open bombs as we did not realize that even an open Antoine Wright isn't an offensive threat. Was out there for our run in the early 4th as part of the hustle crew, and helped challenge the Suns off their shots for his lone highlight.

Cisco ( B- ) -- quiet in his early minutes, then made a bad turnover up top and compounded it and fouled the guy on the break for a 3pt play. Critical mistake in the late 3rd as he gto called for an offensive foul trying to post Dragic and the lead went back to 9. Shaky play up to that point but began the 4th with a jumper and hustle rebound, and was racing aorudn with Reke challenging everyhing on the perimeteron defense. Forced a dumb shot in transtion, but lots of hiustle and heart for those minutes. Unfortunately since those minutes came after a long stretch of ineffective minutes, can't go any higher with the grade.

I got an idea.

Let's trade JT for a 3 who relies on getting streaky, then let's trade Donte for a second round draft pick. We'll get 23-26 wins, and hope we will get a good lottery pick, then we'll score the 8th pick in the draft and get a bust. Then, we'll hope we'll attract a pretty solid FA, but only attract an overpriced, overrated, and over the hill player. We go 30 wins the next season, fire Westphal. Tyreke rejects contract extention and walks, and we repeat the process that began last year.

Sounds like a plan to me.

I had a headache after this game, read this and now it's a migrane.

Minny sprung Beasley on us we had absolutely no answer. Now tonight Phx springs Nash on us (surely we could anticipate it) and again, absolutely no answer. That's the disappointment. I'm not sure who to blame on the Kings, but this nightly superstar or even jr superstar torching treatment has to end!

I think you guys may be a little disappointed wiht the grades this time -- I did not think this was nearly as awful as it is being made out. We were inferior, but gave it a shot. Just have some big holes.

no JT & Donte = zero bench production = Westpaul = lame

This.

I'm not super high on Donte, but D-Block kinda stunk it up tonight. JT might play like a goofball, but he goofballs his way to the line and rebounds. If we do trade him, I wouldnt be surprised to see him put up at least 12/9 wherever he ends up.

Props to Landry on the 20/11. I bash him a lot, but he had a good game tonight. 7 offensive boards against the worst defensive rebounding team in the league, whodathunkit?!

I tend to agree but the disappointment is that we expected so much more - not more of the same ala last couple of Kings seasons. Good news is it's early and as crazy as it seems we might just as easily go on a 3-4 game winning streak coming up. Hopefully, you or others can put an Amick-like analyst hat on and tell us what the hell we can do to get out of this rut. Westphal will surely turn up the heat in practice, although I think it's interesting that he canceled practice yesterday just to meet and talk with his players. I personally think we need to get rid of Wright - worthless. Trade either Donte or JT - but not just give them away. Hopefully, get a wing player who can shoot with 3pt range and solid SF starting ability. Another PG would be nice too unless you think tiny Pooh is the ticket to 30+ wins this season.

Not sure how we would get a wing better than Casspi or Greene right now. We could possibly shop dalembert and/or Landry, but if we get rid of JT our front court is going to be in a mess.

Clealry we can't, and won't, get rid of Daly. He's too critical to any chance we have of being good defensively. But who knows what else is on the table at this point.

I am perplexed at the coaching staff right now. I haven't seen this kind of sporatic playing time even throught the Muss and Theus years. JT and Greene DNP's while Head, Wright, Jackson get a combined 29 min of 0 ****ing production. Westphal has lost his mind. If I am the Maloofs I am scratching my head and calling Petrie right now to find out what the hell is going on.

When I reflect on the game, on the road by the way, you are right.

I think the coaching has a lot to do with the short fuse that most of the fan base has. If we win it is in spite or him, and If we lose its because of him. That might be true by the way. I never want to see Antione Wright again.

I have never started a fire coach thread but dammit I am about to. Westphal is turning into an *** Clown.

Tonight from our view 14 rows up behind the Kings bench, I could see the dynamics of the bench, players, coaches and the game itself.. Lots of frustrations all around but mostly a dysfunction throughout the game. Here was my view from Phoenix and before I read the Sam Amick article, which I thought was spot on:

Lack of my input was due to the paralysis in my clutched hands from the frustration of watching the dysfunctional Kings. My observation is that Tyreke handling the ball 100% to start every possession is the root of Kings dysfunction. Every team is shutting down Tyreke with double/triple teams which then renders him much less effective in running things or even starting a set. In the third quarter twice at least Tyreke was the only King who touched the ball the entire possession and no points resulted. Just look at his stats last 4 games. I love Tyreke but he needs to be used differently.

Cousins frustrations were absolutely at himself for rookie type fouls.
Landry, of whom I've been a big supporter untill tonight, looked lost much of the time. HE and Cousins too many times had lost tier man on defense.
Evans was continually cut off by the defenders from getting a play started. But, is that his fault 100% or is the coach to bleak in some small or larger way?
Beno seemed left out and way underutilized. He is the best spot up shooter on the Kings. Period. He isn't double teamed all the time and is an excellent ball handler and great spot up shooter. Tyreke is not. Yet, I hope.
Omri is solidifying himself THE SF with excellent defense, hustle all the time and very good offense.
Jackson is a beast on defense and improving his shooting.
JT is a 4 who can backup at the 5. Period.
I need a drink to calm down. Arrgghhhhh!!!

We could possibly shop dalembert
WTF?!?

Yeah - get rid of one of the only guys pulling his weight out there, and the only one preventing layup drills on every posession against us.
Have you seen the games this year?
Teams shy away from driving into the paint against Dally. When they do drive, many times he blocks or alters the shot, or they mess up avoiding him.
He intimidates the other team.

Trade him?!

There were some good points to this game, if you polish off the turd closely.

Beno had a good 1st half, Tyreke a good 2nd half, Landry shot 50% and got 11 rebounds, DMC was great 2nd qtr and got screwed out of an off reb and putback which got him closer to the 6th foul.
We had 8 more rebounds than them, 9 more shots, and only 11 TO's....

If you ignore the boneheaded sloppiness, they just shot better than the Kings tonight, and Nash is a Hall of Famer.

Sacramento Klutz

Nearly every Sun running back on defense, yet we manage to lose the ball out of bounds.
Nearly every Sun running back on defense, two Kings tap it back to Nash.

Minus JT and Greene not getting minutes, I didn't have a problem with the game. The 8-0 run in the 4th for the Suns was a back breaker.

Other then Nash absolutly killing Beno, I thougth we actually looked good.. Offence was doing ok, and at times the defence was great aswell.

Demarcus is the key for us, and sadly he gets rookie calls and can't handle himself to stay longer on the court, and lets his frustration affect his game... if he stays on the floor 25+ minutes a game as a start, we would do ALOT better.

Oh and Wright sucks, really he does.

All in all not a bad game by The Kings. It just feels a lot worse than it is because it's their 4th consecutive loss. It'd be a lot easier to swallow had they beaten Memphis and Minnesota at home.

hey come to think of it again we just couldnt have won this game anyway JUST COULDNT - bill walton was commentating.

Even though I don't believe rumors started out of thin air by Marc Stein, but isn't kinda awkward that he put out that rumor and then JT gets a DNP? Coincidence? I have no idea.

Frustrating observations about last night's game -

1 - Why in the world is your best player sitting at crunch time? If he needs a rest, rest him from the 12 minute mark of the 4th quarter, to the 10 minute mark of the fourth quarter.
2 - As mediocre as I think Darnell Jackson is, why in the world is he getting PT over Jason Thompson? Furthermore, why in the world is he taking 20 footers?
3 - Why don't you just repeatedly pound the ball down inside to Cousins and Landry? Landry had a great game, but you should have still given the ball to the big guys more. I saw a lot of purposeless dribbling around the top of the key.
4 - Cousins has got to find a way to stay on the court. Very talented. Needs to stop the stupid fouls.
5 - The poor free throw shooting has killed us this year. If we were shooting 78% instead of 70%, it would mean an extra 3-4 points per game. Again, last night, 12-19, a slightly about 60% clip.

This has been a most frustrating start to the season. This team has the potential of winning just 20 games.

I'm not saying i agree with that i'm just throwing out ideas if we were to shop for a SF. Honestly i think we should probably try and find a ball handling point guard. I was hoping Devon Harris or Darren Collison in the offseason...

I called a 30/10 game for Nash prior to the game to my buddies. It was close enough, hell...nearly a triple double. He is just a Kings killer if there ever was one, it doesn't help that he missed 5 shots all night long, it's one thing to let him score, but it's another to have him rack up 10+ assists along with scoring. Suns never lose when he performs like that. This was on coach to execute a proper game plan to put our best defender (Cisco) on Nash and keep switching with Cisco & Reke. Carl put up some good numbers but he really wasn't all that impressive in this game. Dalembert was disappointing as well, he is known to be a shotblocker, yet he did not have one.
