What was the rush?
The firing of Malone had to be made in a fit of pique by Vivek. There is no other reasonable explanation. There was no plan. What kills me is the "there were philosophical differences" excuse. Yeah, right. Like they disagreed on Plato or Aristotle? Give me a freaking break. It was all about ego, control and emotion. Malone was a straight-shooter that wasn't the "yes man" that PDA is; he didn't subscribe to the crazy-a$$ed ideas Vivek wanted him to do; he said forget analytics, defense wins games. They fired him because he dismissed their utopian naïve dreams about how basketball should be played. The scariest thought to ponder is that they still hold true to their naïve vision of how things should be on the basketball court rather than how they actually are.

I just read your Sig line Chubbs, which inspired this post:p

Chubbs Sig line - "We had a Sousa marching band, which was needed when there was chaos. But now we need to shift to a jazz band, where people can be individually showcased and improvised. What we need is a jazz director."-Vivek Ranadive
Well, here is my recommended "jazz director" and his jazz band since they play (beginning at the 1:55 mark) like the Kings FO plays.

My real fear is Vivek may have realized he screwed up big time firing Malone AND thinking the team could switch to some mystical run and gun approach and now he is stuck with no out and no way to recover. Maybe we'll see a mutiny???

You would give our star an A for pouting his way through a game? Sorry, I was grading the actual on-court performance, not whether or not he might have sabotaged a game to carry out a juvenile act of retribution against a front office you don't like.
I know he doesn't deserve an A for this performance but I think he is the only person on this team that can change anything. I truely am ok with him loosing his cool right now if it somehow can make a point. If this front office wants to keep wasting his talent I'd rather watch him play somewhere else were they are willing to give him a fair chance to succeed. Thanks to you and everyone else that works so hard on this forum. I never miss a day to read the posts on here I'm just not one to post a bunch of stuff. I hope we all get to see some good basketball soon!

Season is over. And the sad thing is that we might not even have the draft this year. But if we continue playing like tonight, we will eventually end up in the worst 10 anyway...

I remain skeptical that the portrayals here of our front office's philosophy are 100% accurate. But for sake of argument:

Let's assume that Vivek, Mullin, and PDA all want to play schoolyard ball, and that this philosophy will never work. What good is it to fire PDA if the owner and the remainder of the front office still hold onto that philosophy? Vivek will keep trying to implement the philosophy with or without PDA. In that case, firing PDA is (to use a stale metaphor) rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
I think that's an excellent point. As long as Vivek stubbornly refuses to defer to a good strong coach the potential for a repeat of this disaster will continue to exist.

It is a sad day in Mudville.
Having Cousins regress to his former punkish self, makes watching the Kings much less appealing. I appreciate Malone for defense first, but he is obviously a player's coach and did a masterful job in getting Cousins to act like an adult. Without Malone, Cousins is backto being a frustrated adolescent.

To be fair, one game does not make a trend. Cousin's behavior and performance last game was concerning, but post game he took responsibility. And that's that. Let's hope that isn't a trend but an aberration. Right now at this moment I'm treating it as an aberration.

Believe me though, I'm worried as hell he may regress like the rest of the team has. But I feel like he is a much steadier man than he used to be.

Fingers crossed for sure!

I wonder if there is any part of Cousins that is doing this in order to get back at the organization that just traded away the best coach he has ever known in the NBA. If I am PDA, I would be getting worried. There is no one left to fire, PDA is next and you just mightily pissed off the best player on the team. What a weasel, I hope he gets torn apart on Monday for the worm that he is. One of the questions should be "Can you explain all the losing/blow outs since Malone was fired? Are you satisfied with the decision that has now caused this season to plunge into another wasted year?"

I hate PDA and I hope he isn't here much longer. What a cancer.

We have nothing to worry about there. We have to be dam near the worst team in the league right now and we still have over half the season to go. If the FO stays the current course we will def keep our pick. Competing for the worst record in the league baby!

IMO Vivek's first instinct on buying the Kings was to hire Mike Malone. Vivek should have stuck with his first instinct and stood by Malone.

I do think utilizing a failed GM like Mullin as an advisor was/is a poor decision. Mully was a great shooter and a fine player. So far his results in team management suck.

Pete is the front man for the FO. Unfortunately I think he is inexperienced for this GM role. I think he will do whatever he is told to do by Vivek without much push back.

Outside of bringing back Malone or hiring George Karl I don't see a good play for Vivek.Unless there is some great basketball mind out there that has not been identified by Kings Fans:)

Concerning the game I think Brad Stevens out coached Ty Corbin. Sure Corbin is a lame duck, the Refs kind of sucked, Ty has not had much time, did not have JT, barely had Ben, but the NBA is a Man's League so it is what it is.

This is what you get when you changes horses midstream:confused:
