Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Peja ( A ) -- stepped it up big time with Webb out -- thank god for Peja on the boards tonight...wait a second, did I just say that??? Had 12 for his first good boarding night of the season (TWICE his previous high). See -- obviously mean ole Webb has just been oppressing him on the boards. ;) In any case, maybe this game can serve as a platform for Peja to return to respectability on the glass. Got on one of his hot streaks in the third, and was dueling with Steve Smith there for a while long bomb for long bomb. But mixed up the offense too, and was driving aggresively as well as hitting the bombs.
Miller ( B+ ) -- effective and aggressive offensively from the beginning of the game, scoring inside and out. Spent the entire night on the line while being fouled on drive after drive. Also was filling a little bit of Webb's role running the high post offense, and set Darius up for several point bank opportunities. Despite what the numbers said, boardwork was weak -- with no Webb, both Peja and Songaila stepped up their boarding tremendously. Brad on the other hand was getting dominated on the glass by Okafor. Picked it up a bit after the game was already decided in the 4th.
Ostertag ( B- ) -- got the start with Webb out, and kind of played his game, (what there is of it ;) ). Hustled around, but not always effectively. Got some blocks, some boards, but nothing was clean. Got his hands on all sorts of balls, but only ocassionaly came down with them. Had a long first half stint, but his second half minutes were very limited due to foul trouble for Charlotte's Melvin Ely (their biggest guy), and Darius's strong game.
Christie ( B- ) -- got off to a sloppy start and made a series of totally unforced turnovers in the first quarter. Came back to hit a few open shots and serve as Peja's personal assistman with a series of passes to help Peja get off. Passing was definitely his big contribution tonight.
Bibby ( B- ) -- contributed in various aspects but never a huge factor. Good passing and decisionmaking, and once again came out and got onto the boards. On the other hand, never did find the range offensively, and had some trouble containing the much quicker Brevin Knight.
BJax ( B+ ) -- little jolt of energy as per usual. Played a pretty efficient game by Bobby standards, and was once again up for a number of spectacular boards. After a while you begin to take for granted his pts/min, which are just ridiculous. 16pts in 24 mon tonight.
Songaila ( A ) -- with Webb out, somebody had to step forward on the boards and with post offense, and that someone was Darius. Was aggressively working the post and attacking the rim, and snatched a number of tough interior rebounds as well. Seemed to tire a bit late in the game, and wasn't as effective after the 3rd, although he did power in for a big 3pt play at about the 2:00 mark of the 4th quarter.
Barnes ( B- ) -- hustle and slop in equal proportions tonight. Peja's big second half took away his post-halftime minutes.
Evans ( INC ) -- came right in and confidently hit his first shot in garbage time
Martin ( INC ) -- garbage time, made yet another turnover -- a TO machine thus far this season
Daniels ( INC ) -- garbage time

Adelman ( B+ ) -- we won, and easily, on a night when we did not have Webb. On the other hand, it was the Bobcats on a back to back coming off a double OT game. This grade is lowered because we never could quite find a way to put this team away, and because of that we never really got into full garbage time tongiht, and had to log up big minutes for our starters to maintain a 12-16pt lead for most of the night. Should have been a blowout.

#1 in TO per 48 mins (10.5)

i remember at one point it was like 54

that per48 is misleading

Good grades, but the vibe i'm getting from the Bobcats is that they aren't gonna be a blowout team. The bulls, more than likely. The Hawks, definately. New Orleans...all you can do is weep for them. But as other people have said, the 'Cats are going to come and play. Good teams should beat them, but they shouldn't expect them to roll over.

I think it was a blow out. The game was over after 12- 0 run in the beginning of the 3rd.
Pedja is an all star so such numbers should be expected. It is up to him to delivers.

I missed the 1st qtr so I may be a little off on my grades, but I would have to give Peja an A+ for this one. I personally think it was his best overall effort this year. Not only was he scoring, but his rebounding was phenominal, his hustle was amazing, and he also played some effective defense.

I don't think Bibby deserves more than a C. I am actually a little concerned at his somewhat average play of late. We all know he is much better than that. Well, he will get it going again soon.

I agree with all the other grades though.

Overall team grade: A- They did what they had to do, against a determined young team with a lot of heart. These are teams before where the Kings would let down, not play with focus, not pay attention to details, etc. The reason for the minus was the ball-handling problems, although to be fair, I think the Bobcats were just really fast.

Sorry, no A+'s for beating up on the JV squad. ;)

Especially missing two starters on the second night of a back-to-back.

I wouldn't give Bibby better than a C, either; his defensive assignment is the worst shooter on the entire Bobcats team, and he somehow managed to go 5/8...
Well somebody who gets to see the replays might want to confirm, but I'm pretty sure two of those makes were actually against Doug early in the game.

Good grades Brick.

In retrospect, the decision to rest Webber worked out really great. Not only does Chris get some extra rest, but RA was able to excercise our bench options and put some pressure on the rest of the starters in what would otherwise be difficult game to get really amped about. Songalia obviously took full advantage of his opportunity. Brad (inside) and Pedja (boards) got their hands dirty and worked hard most of the game (which is as important as getting the bench some minutes). I can't see any of these positives either happening at all or meaning as much in a game where our starting five plus BJax blows out Cats in 3 quarters and we end up with meaningless garbage 4th. So RA did deserver that B+ even though we're talking Bobcats here...

PEJA had a double double * 12* boards???

* faints *

( but i'm LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTG PEJA!!!!!!!)

i was checking the box score alnight long, and i got a little worried about webber not playing, but it's good to see peja stepping it up on the boards. daruis was great. where is bibby!!! i saw like 30 seconds of this game, when they checked in on NBA nation. other then that it was all looking at the boxscore.

good to see the kings do what they should have done to the babycats :D

Good grades. Thanks, Bricklayer. I enjoyed watching the game - gotta love seeing Peja that aggressive and Darius stepping up. Thumbs up. :) Saw quite a few smiles, which is always good in my book. ;)

Good Grades, glad you gave Darius the A he deserved. His paly this season has beeen great.... not perfect but strong inside gaem, bringing it all to the court every night. At the risk of rattleing the cages of Hedo fans I have to say Darius looks to be the best back up PF for Webb I have seen so far.

Adelamn made the right call starting Tag but going with Darius most of the game.

Good grades Brick.

They werent ready to play..... again but they did finally get it together when it counted....

A W is a W right?!

i am concerned, too.. the past 4 (or 5) games he has only scored in double digits (10 and 15) twice.. and before the past 4 (or 5) games he averaged 18 ppg with like 46% fgs, 44% 3pt fgs.. now, i don't know the numbers but i'm guessing he's averaging like 7 ppg or something, with like 30+% fgs, and 20+% 3pt? something like that..

i hope that he gets going soon.. we will definitely need him for friday against minny.. he better show up..

Two observations...first off, I'm concerned that the official line about CWebb not playing was that "because of his left knee he was unable to play" instead of "with the upcoming two days off we've decided, as a precaution, to sit him tonight so he'll be fresh for the Wolves on Friday, the first of a back to back against Indy on Saturday". I know the realities are the same but the second explanation casts a better light on the overall condition. We can now expect more games when he'll be unable to go due to soreness. Secondly, I think it was actually wise of Adelman to play the starters as long as he did into the fourth quarter thus allowing guys to get that much more accustomed to playing without CWebb on the floor, especially if his absense is going to be more frequent.

Ah...the glass half full guy. :) Don't think that's actually why he did it though -- fact is we NEEDED the staters on the floor because the damn expansion team just wouldn't quite die. Never relaly threatened, but would never just go away so we could get our deep benchers some minutes.

The deep bench guys have not shown me much in terms of taking care of the ball. So, unless we have a 20pt. lead with less than five minutes I don't expect to see them much.

20 pts is probably not a big enough cushion with that much time on the clock for these guys.
