Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Peja ( A ) -- stepped it up big time with Webb out -- thank god for Peja on the boards tonight...wait a second, did I just say that???
Had 12 for his first good boarding night of the season (TWICE his previous high). See -- obviously mean ole Webb has just been oppressing him on the boards.
In any case, maybe this game can serve as a platform for Peja to return to respectability on the glass. Got on one of his hot streaks in the third, and was dueling with Steve Smith there for a while long bomb for long bomb. But mixed up the offense too, and was driving aggresively as well as hitting the bombs.
Miller ( B+ ) -- effective and aggressive offensively from the beginning of the game, scoring inside and out. Spent the entire night on the line while being fouled on drive after drive. Also was filling a little bit of Webb's role running the high post offense, and set Darius up for several point bank opportunities. Despite what the numbers said, boardwork was weak -- with no Webb, both Peja and Songaila stepped up their boarding tremendously. Brad on the other hand was getting dominated on the glass by Okafor. Picked it up a bit after the game was already decided in the 4th.
Ostertag ( B- ) -- got the start with Webb out, and kind of played his game, (what there is of it
). Hustled around, but not always effectively. Got some blocks, some boards, but nothing was clean. Got his hands on all sorts of balls, but only ocassionaly came down with them. Had a long first half stint, but his second half minutes were very limited due to foul trouble for Charlotte's Melvin Ely (their biggest guy), and Darius's strong game.
Christie ( B- ) -- got off to a sloppy start and made a series of totally unforced turnovers in the first quarter. Came back to hit a few open shots and serve as Peja's personal assistman with a series of passes to help Peja get off. Passing was definitely his big contribution tonight.
Bibby ( B- ) -- contributed in various aspects but never a huge factor. Good passing and decisionmaking, and once again came out and got onto the boards. On the other hand, never did find the range offensively, and had some trouble containing the much quicker Brevin Knight.
BJax ( B+ ) -- little jolt of energy as per usual. Played a pretty efficient game by Bobby standards, and was once again up for a number of spectacular boards. After a while you begin to take for granted his pts/min, which are just ridiculous. 16pts in 24 mon tonight.
Songaila ( A ) -- with Webb out, somebody had to step forward on the boards and with post offense, and that someone was Darius. Was aggressively working the post and attacking the rim, and snatched a number of tough interior rebounds as well. Seemed to tire a bit late in the game, and wasn't as effective after the 3rd, although he did power in for a big 3pt play at about the 2:00 mark of the 4th quarter.
Barnes ( B- ) -- hustle and slop in equal proportions tonight. Peja's big second half took away his post-halftime minutes.
Evans ( INC ) -- came right in and confidently hit his first shot in garbage time
Martin ( INC ) -- garbage time, made yet another turnover -- a TO machine thus far this season
Daniels ( INC ) -- garbage time
Adelman ( B+ ) -- we won, and easily, on a night when we did not have Webb. On the other hand, it was the Bobcats on a back to back coming off a double OT game. This grade is lowered because we never could quite find a way to put this team away, and because of that we never really got into full garbage time tongiht, and had to log up big minutes for our starters to maintain a 12-16pt lead for most of the night. Should have been a blowout.
