im lukewarm on the signing. this is geoff pulling a straddle move, where he overpays for the present, and underpays for the future (hopefully). but seriously, the guy is 27, and his number 1 issue is calming down and not playing like hes a 15 year old out there with grown men. at 19-20, not a huge issue, and actually, to be expected. but at 27, its a worry for me. every year, i look for him to calm down, and play a paced game, but even his good games have a frenetic pace to them.
i like garcia. i like his size, his tenacity, and i am ever so intrigued by his supposed ability to play point. i drool at the thought of 6'7 garcia w/ 6'7 martin. but year after year, hes still the same puppy running around jumping on everything.
6 mil a year is over his market worth currently. if he ever calms down, and doesnt get any better whatsoever, it will be market price. if he does get better, then we have a good role player at a good price. at this point, the only thing hurting garcia is... garcia.
