This still doesn't mean I'm over 2002.

Hello hello and welcome to yet another season of Kings basketball, the only thing that'll give you worse indigestion than PizzaGuys pizza. When we last left off, Vivek Ranadive had bought the team and Sacramento, unhampered by Maloof antics, finally was able to start work on the downtown arena of its dreams. Also, we traded most of the roster, got really tired of IT's PizzaGuys commercials, finally acquired a bonafide #2 guy, and watched Demarcus Cousins go from "Guy famous for punching Vince Carter in the little Vince" to being in the argument for top 3 big men in the league. And that was just during the season.

This offseason was not nearly as eventful as the last one (thankfully). Instead of constant stories about the Maloofs looking to move the team to any city with a population over 300 people, the Kings fan base was able to focus on offseason basketball, something that actually proved to be fun as the summer league team somehow managed to claim the Vegas championship despite at one point starting Derrick Williams at center and Demarcus and Rudy played crucial roles with Team USA, Demarcus arguably being the most impactful player in the Gold Medal game at the FIBA tourney.

Yes, it's been a good summer overall, even if Pete D'Allesandro didn't pull the trigger on any major moves like many on these forums hoped or expected he would. In lieu of the gigantic blockbuster move, the roomer Denver GM pulled off a series of low-key moves that, while not particularly exciting, still should help the team's overall depth, dumping IT for a Darren Collison/Ramon Sessions combo, trading Jason Terry, Travis Outlaw, and Quincy Acy for essentially nothing, drafting Nik Stauskas to provide some more SG depth and shooting, signing Ryan Hollins, and bringing in Summer League stalwart Eric Moreland as a developmental project meant to help us finally find a big man who isn't scared of defending the rim.

Anyone still confused about the roster can check it out on the Kings official website (
LINK HERE), where you will find that every single person on the Kings roster except for David Wear (who has a 0% chance of making the team anyways) is now sporting some degree of facial hair, ranging from Reggie Evans's trademark jailyard crazy person beard straight down to Nik Stauskas's "I forgot to shave this morning" hipster flycatcher. Also, everyone on the roster except for Reggie Evans appears to be pretty bad at forcing a smile (and in Reggie's case, it may just be a case of the weight of his beard forcing his lower lip to droop into the position of a natural grin).

Yes. Kings basketball is back (kind of) and I couldn't be happier.

Of course, this entire game thread comes with a gigantic Sim Bhullar-sized asterisk as it's both the first game of the preseason AND not being televised in Sacramento. As such, I'm not going to do the usual features + awards and stuff thing. Because it's preseason and everyone's half-assing it. Even your game thread writer.

PS: LINKS TO STREAMS ARE ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN,
EVEN IF IT'S PRESEASON AND CSN IS BEING A BUNCH OF DOODOO HEADS.

Here, for your reading pleasure, is Slim's full post on the matter. FOLLOW THE RULES OR FLOGGINGS WILL ENSUE.

Thank you and
GO KINGS.

Would not mind seeing Reggie/Landry deliver a smackdown blow on Jonas for his actions a month back
Oh yeah...forgot about the Jonas angle. Knocking the crap out of him now would be better than during the season to avoid suspensions. I may have to flip on the radio for a bit even with the NFL games and baseball playoffs on.

Thanks Tetsujin, we're in business again. TDOS is always so long for me. Today we will have some Kings basketball whether it is after a plane ride to Vancouver, listening on the radio (to Grant who is sitting in for Gary). Can't wait for 4 PM Sacramento time.

I did send CSN an email Friday I think it was and they were like, "From past experience, Most fans don't really watch preseason games, so we are happy to broadcast one game only. We are trying to prepare for the games that count." So from my judgement I think fans need to step it up a little and email CSN to broadcast the rest of the preseason games which are the Kings vs Maccabi, Kings vs Spurs and Kings vs Lakers (unless it's on NBATV). If you want to read the full email it's under Preseason games on TV.

I don't know about the Maccabi game, but I would think the defending champion Spurs, and the LA Bryant's will be televising their preseason games. They will be on TV somewhere.

There is a Toronto broadcast for the game so League Pass users should be able to watch it
I have DirecTV with League Pass and it shows the Kings and Raptors, but it is for Tuesday and it is the Kings broadcast. It is not showing the Toronto Broadcast for today. Are you thinking it is on League Pass with Broadband?

Nice note Tetsu-san as the first pre-season game really doesn't deserve much more and you caught the essence of the moment. The first pre-season game is usually an awful game and I hope people don't over analyze once the game is over.

I think PDA had a good summer. I seemed to have a different attitude than most people as I didn't see another big trade coming nor did I think one was necessary. I wanted to see what would happen with all the moves that were made and after seeing what good or bad the moves did, make other moves next summer. We will have plenty of money and we aren't over extended on people who probably aren't in the Kings' future. However, just at the time when I was saying to myself "that's enough, PDA, he came up with Ramon Sessions" and I'll bet Capt. Factorial could come up with something that would explain how all the medium level moves equaled one large move INCLUDING getting an ace analytics man.

I know this is not the place for this kind of note but my summer has been bad and I haven't had much time to give my views. Age has caught up with me.

I think the Kings are in a good place and I am not sure they could have come out much better. I couldn't imagine a team turning over its entire roster and having all the parts match well. PDA came close. In my mind, the major goal other than team defense and keeping the ball in motion is for Nik to adjust well to the NBA (unlike Ben) and develop some aggression, both very achievable. If Nik does what he did in college, we will be in fine shape.

Now let's kick Jonas wherever we can. I REALLY want to see that or at least hear about that.

Finally, some basketball again...what a sigh of relief. I know TSN is showing this game so there should be a stream somewhere online since they are not showing this on NBA TV. Interested to see who the starting five is going to be to start things off and how the new guys play with our core guys.

This might be off topic, but I never saw anyone here mention Rondo's recent injury that will put him out for a couple months. It would be awful to give up Ben for an injury prone Rondo... /hindsight

Considering that we haven't in fact given up Ben for an injury-prone Rondo, wouldn't that be: /foresight?

I'm not sure how breaking one's hand on a trampoline or in the shower, qualifies as being injury prone.
