[Game] Game -7: Sacramento Kings @ Toronto Raptors, 10/5/14 4 PM pst, 7 PM est

Positionless basketball is cool beans that way. Its very much like what you play down at the local pickup game, where just about anybody can choose to bring the ball up, take a jumper, or post on any given possession. Its really the only professional and organized way to play the sport.

It's why I SMH when I see things like the team stating they were going to play Gay some at PF this year and then Gay saying he slimmed down so he can play like a guard.

I hope not for long stretches. Gay is not built like Lebron. Maybe Gay is Carmelo, but I doubt playing Carmelo at PF had even done wonders for the Knicks team.

Our coaching staff really looks scary with these silly pronouncements and experimentations. They sometimes think they are playing in Europe (and not in the NBA) where small ball will suffice as long as you have good shooters.

We have enough size and athletic bigs to experiment as back-up at Center - in Thompson, Hollins, and to a certain extent Moreland. I really couldn't fathom the logic on wasting some of these precious practice games/preseason games experimenting on a frontline of Landry and Reggie/Williams. It makes me think the coaches do not understand the benefit of playing preseason games against another NBA team. They are not really that serious on their job. I know it is preseason games only, but how many preseason games do we get to play for practice before the real games?

Interesting that you brought up Smart. I was thinking the same thing when I heard Landry was playing at center. It reminded me of Thompson playing at small forward under Smart. I just don't understand the point of either of those situations. Does Malone really not know that Landry isn't a center just as Smart didn't know Thompson was a pf or center? It really makes you wonder.
I hope somebody makes a thread about this. And hopefully the criticism reaches Malone as a reminder before we get to the real games. These kinds of coaching mistakes in real games can cost us games and we need to win EVERY winnable game this season.

I know the roster is far from perfect, but please coaching staff, use our players wisely and let them practice their appropriate roles first before experimenting on playing them on unconventional roles in these preseason games. You are being payed millions of dollars to think wisely and make this team work. As of now, the thing that you should be working on is getting these new roster/players accustomed first to their expected full-time positions and roles. And maybe they will learn more, function better, and would increased their basketball IQ fatser. We should not be wasting time experimenting and confusing players on these silly combination of frontline in Landry with Reggie/Williams which we all know might just be used only occasionally.

It is disappointing how the seemingly inefficient coach Malone values the preseason games. It is as if the preseason games will be forever and there will still be time for the players to get used to playing their expected roles.

I think the coaching staff (much more than the players) needs to use these preseason games on learning how to coach.

This is the time to try things. I wouldn't get overly concerned in this early part of preseason. We can know what to expect with Cuz, JT, Gay, Ben and Collison. Now is the time for wild things.
