That was THE worst M's game I have ever witnessed first hand. And I've sat in there in years past and seen several blow-outs of our ladies before. It was miserable. Those last 3 quarters were sheer torture.
Kara gave Katie way too much room on the weakside, but Katie was a monster that was not to be denied tonight.
Way too many cross court passes by Detroit though the heart of M's D to break it down.
Way too many more rebounds by Detroit. Ford outplayed Griffith.
Way too many offensive rebounds by Detroit (11 in the 2nd half, 16 overall).
Monarchs shot like crap, but give credit to Detroit for a stifling defense that looked like ours the previous 3 games (less one quarter).
Yes, I also believe that Detroit had an overall advantage from refs' calls tonight, but it was nowhere near what the final margin of victory was. From my courtside seat, I watched as Yo, DeMya, and Becky all did serious damage to their opponent without a whistle being blown. The Shock surely got their share of licks in, pokes in the eye, and player knockdowns, no doubt, but I don't think it was so far skewed in one direction that the game's outcome was altered. In the end, the tougher team usaully gets the benefit of the calls, and Detroit was way tougher than our ladies tonight.
The 1KF-in-the-gym Monarchs streak ends at 20.
For Game 5, no predictions from me, because I don't know which Monarchs' team will show up...the one with the O just good enough to win or the one that can't throw the orange thing in the ocean. My sincere hope is that the team that did in the Shock for most of the first 3 games (including 1-3/4 of the first 2 games on the road) comes ready to play. At least our ladies have no choice but to play better and come better prepared than they were tonight.
