Game 4 WNBA Finals: Monarchs vs. Shock

#32
I have a lot of things to say. This was a tough thread to read. For those of you who are counting the Monarchs out, please don't bother watching the game. We don't need the negativity.

Not the series 6th. Just the 1 game which the writing was in large bold print on the wall early in the 4th quarter.

We couldnt hit the broad side of a barn in the last 3 quarters.

We got the egg out of the way... Now it's time to anniliate 'em!:D

In that particular instance, slug, I was simply referring to all the "if the Monarchs don't win tonight, they have no chance."

I'm not giving up, because it isn't over. But that was awful tonight. Even Koz said he thought is was the worst he's seen the Monarchs play in 8 years.

Not only is this going back to Detroit, but the Monarchs just gave the Shock a huge boost in confidence.

Having said that, I'm all for the Monarchs being the first to win a championship in enemy territory!:)

That was THE worst M's game I have ever witnessed first hand. And I've sat in there in years past and seen several blow-outs of our ladies before. It was miserable. Those last 3 quarters were sheer torture.

Kara gave Katie way too much room on the weakside, but Katie was a monster that was not to be denied tonight.

Way too many cross court passes by Detroit though the heart of M's D to break it down.

Way too many more rebounds by Detroit. Ford outplayed Griffith.

Way too many offensive rebounds by Detroit (11 in the 2nd half, 16 overall).

Monarchs shot like crap, but give credit to Detroit for a stifling defense that looked like ours the previous 3 games (less one quarter).

Yes, I also believe that Detroit had an overall advantage from refs' calls tonight, but it was nowhere near what the final margin of victory was. From my courtside seat, I watched as Yo, DeMya, and Becky all did serious damage to their opponent without a whistle being blown. The Shock surely got their share of licks in, pokes in the eye, and player knockdowns, no doubt, but I don't think it was so far skewed in one direction that the game's outcome was altered. In the end, the tougher team usaully gets the benefit of the calls, and Detroit was way tougher than our ladies tonight.

The 1KF-in-the-gym Monarchs streak ends at 20. :(

For Game 5, no predictions from me, because I don't know which Monarchs' team will show up...the one with the O just good enough to win or the one that can't throw the orange thing in the ocean. My sincere hope is that the team that did in the Shock for most of the first 3 games (including 1-3/4 of the first 2 games on the road) comes ready to play. At least our ladies have no choice but to play better and come better prepared than they were tonight.

The thing I noticed was the lack of ball movement, especially in the 2nd half. Looked like it was going to be 1 on 1 the entire half - that's not the way to play.

Kings sightings:

Mike Bibby, Francisco Garcia, and Ronnie Price were all in attendance. Less than 10 feet from me! :D

Sorry the pics are bad - from a cell phone.

I'm sorry but that was the worst game I've ever seen the Monarchs play. I mean...MAN! Then...don't get me wrong, I love Kristin Haynie, but I love Ticha more, and I'm sorry, I would have loved to see her play more...but that's just me. We were just off tonight. It got so bad towards the end, sooo many people left. And now we're going to Detroit?! Oy Vey. Although I will say ARCO was very loud and hung in there...

O and did anyone see (I forgot who it was) but she straight up bear hugged Ticha when the refs weren't lookin so Ticha couldn't move! and all the elbows/throw downs. MAN!

My questions about game four start here:

Since when does the offense always run through Brunson?

Where did Yo, Ticha, Walker, and Lawson go off to last night? They certainly were not at the game.

What really sucks too is that I won't be able to see Saturday's game! My friend's birthday celebration is that day. She's a fan too and was really tempted to change the plans, but I don't think she can because of circumstances. I want some confetti to rain down on me!! Oh well, thank goodness for VCR's.

I have some thoughts

I agree with just most of what was said.

This was a messy game. It was ugly in the paint, Katie Smith was ugly on the wing. We knew this was coming. We knew they would grab, push, elbow, punch, We knew all this was coming.

When the Officals decided not to call anything in the paint (For or against us) this was going to make it worse.

I have one question.

That is when you have to set HARD picks on somebody. You have to loosen that Defense. And at somepoint Whiz should have called for one. Not to injure, just to send a message. Since the officals were not making those calls to have to do something to get that to happen. A few hard pics on Katie Smith forces the Officals to tighen the officiating. Or Whiz needed to get a T. He can't make that move now because they are going back to Detroit.

And I would contended that We got Bullied. Which is somethig I never thought I would see. But I believe that we will match their intensity. There will be a closer called ball game, and we win game 5. Detroit will not hold up emotionally. We will be... No Doubt.

MONARCHS IN 5
WE RUN THIS

I thought the majority of the screens set were just fine in Game 4. The problem is that the guards do not immediately look for the screener on the roll, and that hampers the whole offense when the guard keeps dribbling away from the open player with 2 defenders chasing. That's also one reason why Kara has been largely ineffective in scoring from the outside.

Agreed...

Okay so I Just rewatched the game.

The game was extremely nasty from what I saw at Arco. But from TV, it didn't look that Nasty.

The Defense Held. I have no real complaints about the defense. They did give up a few 2nd shots, and that is never good. But for the most part the White line forced tough shots and caused turnovers. If at any point we could have mustered some offense we win.

The only thing I would say at this point is Be Aggressive.

1-3-1 Offense.
Take one second to make a move.
Only allowed 3 dribble.
And Only one fake.
Then you either have to pass shot or Drive.

This alleviates holding the ball forever, dribbling the ball forever, and making 20 fakes before taking a shot.

So after watching Game 4, we can correct this stuff.
I think we got this.

WE RUN THIS
