For nbrans (Teague)

This is a plan I came up with last night. It is based on the following assumptions:
1. That we would be better served by having a new point guard then another power foward.
2. Resigning Beno was a mistake.
3. If we remove Beno we will have 6 open roster spots so more draft picks would be good.
4. OKC values Blake Griffin more than we do.
5. That New Orleans is desperate to shed salary
6. That Portland needs some veteran leadership to take them to the next level.
7. We get the 1st Pick and OKC gets the 4th pick.

New Orleans
Current Salaries
Chandler 11,850,000
West 9,075,000
Wright 2,000,040
Paul 13,758,000
Peja 14,202,000
Armstrong 2,801,198
Butler 3,945,000
53,686,238

Outgoing
2009 1st + 2011 1st
Daniels 6,600,000
Posey 6,031,800
Peterson 6,212,960
18,844,760

Incoming
Beno 6,077,500
Wilkins 3,300,000
Weaver 806,452
10,183,952

Total Savings 8,660,808

Reason Why New Orleans does it
The Kurt Thomas trade established 2 lottery protected first as the going rate for shedding 6 million+ in salary and with this economy I am sure the price has only gone up. By trading Daniels, Posey and Peterson they keep together their starting core players. I am sure they would rather trade Peja, but no one taking that contract without giving up Chris Paul. Beno would replace Daniels, and there are a lot worse jobs than backing up Chris Paul. Wilkins and Weaver are a step down from Posey and Peterson but only cost 1/4 as much.

Sacramento
Beno 6,077,500
#1 Pick 2009 (Blake Griffin)

Incoming
Daniels 6,600,000
#4 Pick 2009 (Teague)
NO. 2009 1st
SA 2009 1st

Cap Hit -522,500

Reason Why Sacramento does it
First we remove the mistake of signing Beno for 5 years with a 1 year rental of Antonio Daniels who can backup our new starting Point Guard Jeff Teague. This also gives us an additional two firsts which would allow us to fill out our roster. The reason Boston was able to trade for Kevin Garnett was all of the young talent they had accumulated. If we want to trade for a super star some day we will need as much young talent as possible. Drafting in this range is also usually Petrie's greatest strength. So we would go into next season with a roster of:
PG Teague/Daniels/1st rounder
SG Martin/Garcia
SF Nocioni/Greene/31st Pick(2nd)
PF Thompson/1st rounder
C Hawes/1st rounder
Exile Thomas

That would certainly be more excting and give us this salary come 2010 offseason:
Martin 11,100,005
Nocioni 6,850,000
Garcia 5,500,000
Hawes 2,974,320
Thompson 2,178,000
Greene 930,700
Rockets Pick 1,000,000??
SA Pick 1,000,000??
NO Pick 1,000,000??

2010/2011 Salary ~ 32-33M

Which would give us room to sign or sign & trade a top tier free agent.

Portland
Incoming
Posey 6,031,800
DJ White 1,036,440

Outgoing
Webster 4,344,000
Sergio 1,892,000

Cap Hit -832,240

Reason Why Portland does it
Webster is the odd man out with Roy as the starter and they probably will have 4 PG next season, Blake, Sergio, Bayless, Kopenen. So Webster and Sergio are expendable. What this team needs is some Veteran Leadership and who better than James Posey to instil a little toughness, clutch shooting and leadership. Plus it does not affect their future salary cap either.

OKC

Incoming
Webster 4,344,000
Sergio 1,892,000
Peterson 6,212,960
#1 Pick+ NO 2011 Pick

Outgoing
DJ White 1,036,440
Weaver 806,452
Wilkins 3,300,000
#4 Pick + SA Pick

Cap Hit -7,306,068

Reason why OKC does it
They get Oklahoma's favorite son and upgrade their roster all at the expense in cap space. A PG combo of Westbrook and Sergio would be very potent. Plus they upgrade their Shooting Guard position with Webster and Peterson. I think they would be hard pressed to spend their cap space any better. Signing a Mike Bibby or a Shawn Marion wouldn't be nearly as good an upgrade.

Now is when everyone can tear it apart :)

I'm an optimist! Great thinking if nothing else. However, Webster and Peterson are not really upgrades. I think they would have to be sold on the Griffin bandwagon to take on those two guys. Still, they're young, and Mo Pete and Wester are useful. Who knows.

I like any plan that gets us Teague and assets fors the 1st, although I wonder if it would be possible to just deal directly with OKC in this scenario for just 1st and Beno for the 4th (Teague), an expiring and possibly one of their later picks.

Still -- these types of deals are ones that I hope we're in the position of considering come June.

Earl Watson and his 6.6M expiring would be a nice fit since he's also fill a short term need at backup PG with both Bobby's gone next year.

Is it too much of a pipedream to hope for a Griffin and Garcia for Teague and Green deal? (With Donte and late 09 firsts possibly also in the mix)

I imagine it would be possible that OKC would take Beno, and we could take Earl Watson as the Expiring. But I was hoping to get three picks for the first not just two. Kind of like the Eddie Griffin trade a few years back.

I actually like this trade, and I think the right teams are in it for a draft day trade to happen (teams who are willing to work on draft day). Would also give us if we're lucky enough to package those two of the firsts and turn them into another lottery pick
