Food thread/what are you eating?

For those of you who enjoy Indian food and coming to Vegas, if/when you do, I highly recommend looking into making reservations at Gymkhana. Since it is a fairly new Two Michelin Star restaurant that recently opened in Vegas, you have to make a reservation months in advance, so yes, it does require some pre-planning. But, if you can get in, I'd imagine that you won't be disappointed.

Another recommendation, if Gymkhana doesn't work out, or if you want more options (or at least a second option), is Tamba. Both unique in their own way. You won't go wrong with either.

Have you been? I was planning on going to the original location later this year. Curious if you have specific dish recommendations…I’m likely to do à la carte rather than the tasting menu. DIshoom is my usual go-to Indian in London since you don’t need a reservation two months in advance 🤪

I went for the very first time last night...

For the most part, everything that we ordered was fantastic, so I will do my best to remember it all:

Main Dishes
1. *Gol Guppas
2. *Beetroot Chops Pao - WARNING: This comes with an extremely spicy chili pepper - proceed with caution! The pepper can be removed.
3. Methi Malai Mutter Paneer
4. *Morel Mushrooms & Truffle Pilaf
5. Chickpea Masala - this was probably my least favorite dish that we ordered, but it, too, was not bad.
6. Yellow Lentil Dal

Condiments
1. Pomegranate Raita - highly recommend this if you are a fan of raita in general, along with pomegranates. The flavor was incredible, and unique - something I can say that I did not expect.
2. House Pickles

Desserts
1. Mango Rasmalai
2. Coconut & Lime and Mango Sorbet (you have many options, and can order up to three - we ended up ordering two Mango sorbets because that was/is a popular option amongst my family. But there are other flavors that I am sure I would've enjoyed just as much).

My top three recommendations in terms of the main dishes are indicated as follows: *. Out of those dishes, the Beetroot Chops Pao, hands down, was my favorite - extremely flavorful!

We also ordered the Bread Basket.

NOTE: There are a handful of dishes that I saw on the menu that I would most likely consider ordering if I ever find may way back to Gymkhana. For the purposes of your ask, however, I will leave those off as I really can't say that I recommend them without first being able to taste them...:)

Nice choices. Appreciate it. Gol Guppas / Panipuri will always be ordered by me if available, so glad to hear they didn’t disappoint. And I love beets & spice, so that’s definitely happening. Will give my review come Nov/Dec…hopefully pictures are working by then.

Edit: Are you vegetarian? I just noticed a theme in your choices

Taste is a wild thing. Not sure I’ve ever heard of someone not liking mango.
With me it is often more of a consistency thing. I love some fruits (apples, Asian pears, pineapple, citrus, etc.) but don't really like others (mango, peach, kiwi, tomatoes, etc.) - it is often that mushy / slightly "slimy" texture I really don't care for much. Mango taste is not necessarily bad (some mango-influenced BBQ sauce can be very good, for instance) but I don't much like the fruit itself. And while it is hard to describe, those mango / peach / kiwi type flavors are too "heavy" of a fruit flavor for my taste - I prefer my fruit flavors "bright" and "crisp". I love pineapple-orange juice, lemonade, limeade, etc., but don't care much for POG, if that helps. I don't know how else to describe it.

Also - I love most pureed tomato products (BBQ, pasta, pizza sauces, etc.) but don't like tomatoes themselves (including overly chunky salsa).

I drink a lot of iced tea and love a strong citrus Arnold Palmer but peach iced tea (for example) is often a bit overpowering on the peach side.

I'm weird. I also fully accept it. 🤷‍♂️

Bosnian food at a local place for lunch today. Cevapi, fresh bread, cabbage salad and another dish that had braised meat with mushrooms potatoes and homemade gravy. Normally I have it with a Jupi but opted for Fanta todayIMG_3451.jpeg

Was in Santa Cruz yesterday and able to grab my favorite tacos in NorCal (left - carnitas) from Los Pericos. And for state unity, I’ve included my favorite tacos in SoCal (right - mole poblano, tinga de pollo, cochinita pibil) from Guisados (multiple locations).

lepina, bread & potatoes in one sitting? that's some serious carb overload. I hear there is a large Balkan population in Iowa

I’m pro carbs so no problem there for me. As long as I’ve got protein and time for a walk I’m good to go. Yes, many came over in the 90s. A lot of them worked in the meat packing plants but moved on to trucking, real estate and the hospital industry. I think they are roughly 10 percent of the population in our “city”
