I understand Marysville has a huge Phillipino population. But that's not Sacramento. Are you coming here for business, pleasure, or family?

Find your way to Northgate BLVD (which is within striking distance of Arco Arena), and visit a Salvadorian restaurant called "La Flor de Michoacan." Order the Papusas, I like the jalapeno and cheese. I guarantee any you try to be the best you've ever had. That's what the place is famous for.

Also, there's a Thai food place called Tuk Tuk across from the arena. Stop there and order their Pad Thai noodles, they're hella good too.

Asian food here isn't the same as native asian food, it may be worth your while to check it out after it's been "Americanized." I'll give some cool restaurants, sparing you all but one of the Asian spots...

My favorite restaurants in Sac. Some of these are cheap, some top $40 - $80 - $100 per meal:

#1. La Flor de Michoacan - Obviously. It's a cheap hole in the wall too, cash only. (Northgate (Little Mexico))

#2 Blue Nami - Slammin' sushi spot, very romantic Japanese atmosphere. Kind of hard to find too. (Expensive) - In Roseville / Carmichael.

#3 Steve's Place Pizza - Pizza's good, atmosphere is like a sports bar. Not far from the arena. I once saw almost the entire Kings team come in here after practice during their glory years. (Cheap)

#4 Tower Cafe - Right in the cultural heart of Sacramento - Midtown (downtown?). No restaurant is more "Sacramento" than this. Eclectic. (Moderate in price).

#5 Logan's Roadhouse - A steak house that charges $8 for the biggest, baddest Long Island Iced Tea you've ever had. Win, every time. Bring a designated driver. (Moderate in price) Near the arena.

#6 The Firehouse - If you want a chance to meet various government officials (The Governator?), rub elbows with powerful business folks, and lose $120 bucks on a meal, this is the place to go. Sit outside in their courtyard if you can. (expensive). In Old Sacramento.

There's definitely better restaurants in town but I don't think any can match the atmosphere of the Firehouse (I may be a little biased since I grew up in the place and while I haven't been inside in over 10 years, I suspect its mostly the same). Old Sac is worth spending an afternoon in, the railroad museum is a must.

#5 Logans Roadhouse is, by far, my favorite on your list.

Another good place for inexpensive Asian food, including sushi, is Mizu. It is close to the arena and is an all you can eat buffet for about $15.00. Can't get cheaper sushi than that anywhere.

I love the Tower Cafe. They have really good breakfast and I really love their french toast. Their salads are good and if I don't order the french toast, I order their chinese chicken salad. Now, I am starting to get hungry.

I will give it a try. Do they have kick A** long islands there as well?
Don't know, but I have had better steaks there and love their ribs. Literally falling off the bone. I think their menu isn't as extensive as Logan's, but I enjoy the meals more.

I really don't like eating ribs but I make an exception with theirs, they are so good. The little wet nap they give you hardly ever does the job. Love their pulled pork too.

Don't really know about the Long Islands, don't really care for them.

A friend lives near by so I make excuses to visit just so I can say "hey I'm in the area, lets go to the Tower Cafe!" Love their pastries.

Surprised no one's mentioned the Squeeze Inn yet. I personally have never been there (I've wanted to but am always too busy to go) but the place has a cult following equaled only by German Hasselhoff fans.

Never wanted the associated heart attack. Plus, I'm lactose intolerant.

Squeeze Inn is good from what I remember. I wish I had good recommendations since I grew up in a family of restaurateurs but seems like since my folks got out of that business we always end up at Banderas when I come to visit, which is good but I hate to recommend a chain.

Although I also try to get a shake and hot dog sandwich at Vic's or Burr's and a Jimboys Taco whenever I'm in town.

Then there's a steakhouse between downtown and land park whose name escapes me. Hrmph.

So am I, but that is what they make the lactaid pills for - no problems at all (for me, anyways). :D

They opened a Squeeze Inn in Galt as well, in case you guys didn't know. Eaten there a few times, food was pretty good. Wait wasn't too bad there at all when I was there.

Trying to avoid the "chain" restaraunts here.....

For those of you inclined to visit Elk Grove, on Laguna near I-5 is a cool local joint called Todo Un Poco (mix of Mexican and Italian) that is pretty good:

Also in Elk Grove is a fabulous little restaraunt called Boulevard Bistro:

Plus the multi-hour wait can get a bit excessive from what I've heard.
You most definitely want to call the order in....and then wait 30-45 min. Or you call right around 11 am to try to beat the lunch time rush. The Squeeze Inn is good, but I find myself eating nothing else for the next 48 hours and spending 3 hours in the gym after each trip. =/

Another good place is Jim Denny's

Continuing the clogging your arteries theme...

Best pizza
1. Roma's Pizzeria
2. Luigi's

Best dessert/Bakery
1. Freeport Bakery
2. Ettore's

I only mentioned Logan's because it was on the list. I like Texas Roadhouse even better even though they are very very similar.

Did you know that Texas Roadhouse was started by a couple of chefs that had worked at Logan's?

I rarely get in to Sac for dinner, but my favorite (if you like something a little different) is Marrakech Morroccan Restaurant on Fulton. You get to sit on the floor and eat with your hands, and the food is really flavorful without being spicy. My favorite dish is the pastilla (sometimes called bisteeya) - ground chicken with scrambled eggs and ground nuts in a phyllo crust topped with powdered sugar and cinnamon. The belly dancing is fun too, either to watch or participate in.
