I still think it might be hard to trade Lavine midseason, given the contract and all of the potential cap restrictions for teams. But if you could manage to pull off three trades we have been hearing about, I think it is a successful first step:
1) Domas/Keon for a Kuminga/Moody and draft capital package
2) Demar for Collins
3) Russ for second round draft capital
You suddenly have a midseason roster of:
Collins/Max/Eubanks
Kuminga/Precious
Keegan/Moody
Lavine/Clifford
Schroeder/Monk/Carter
That is suddenly a young, long, diverse frontcourt. The oldest guy (by far) is Collins, and he is only 28. Given what we have seen, I would love to keep Precious as a backup 4/5, given that he brings some grit to this team. The backcourt needs some work, but you would still be moving Lavine and hopefully Schroeder in the offseason, drafting a point guard, moving Clifford to the starting #2, and having Monk as a 6th man. Even better if you can pull off the Domas trade without moving Keon, but it doesn't seem like the front office values Keon in that way.
But still, you could go into next season (or at the worst), the following season (2027 season) with:
Collins/Max
Kuminga/Precious
Keegan/Moody
Clifford
2026 draft pick/Monk
You'd also have two relatively high second round picks from the 2026 draft, a 2027 First round draft pick, whatever capital you get from the Warriors, whatever capital (if any) you get for Lavine and Westbrook, and maybe one of Keon or Carter.
That is a longer, younger, and much easier team to root for.
