http://www.gasbuddy.com/

i went to my local gas station this morning and it was 3.04...... that hurts!

that site will help you locate gas stations with the cheapest prices in your town.......

just a heads up before gas goes up to 4 dollars....... and stay smart.... never let your tank go all the way to empty... if you see it half empty fill it up.... that way it only costs you like 20 dollars instead of 50..... in the long run it wont hurt as much!

The prices have jumped a lot since Katrina hit on Monday. My station went from $2.67 to $2.72 to $2.79 and is now (yesterday morning) at $2.89 since last weekend.

As of a few hours ago, at least 4 stations here in Vacaville are out of gas.
Are you serious? Is this due to the refineries off the gulf coast or what?

It's bad here, I just paid $3.50 for gas, yesterday it was 2.29 and most gas stations are completely out. I went to 9 and they were all empty. Apparantly here anyway, a rumor started that we were running out of gas and that caused people to pani so they were filling up their cars and a lot of gas cans. Therefore our 10 day supply went down to 3 days. They're supposed to be delving into the reserves but right now that's petroleum and it has to be refined to gasoline first which takes time and transporting is the problem. A lot of the pipelines are around La. so obviously now they're not functioning and many of the wells have disappeared under the water somewhere. Gas gouging is huge problem, some people trying to sell it for $7-8. A lot of families have had to cancel their holiday plans and they are advising this if you can to try and make the gas last longer. It's supposed to be better next week, we can only hope. Please conserve gas as much as possible, do all your errands together while you already out and don't drive unless you have to. The buses and boats audung in evacuation and rescue need the gas more than we do and hopefully it will last till they can get some more next week. Right now it's not looking good.

Partially. They had to shut down about 9 oil refineries near the hurricane site. Some of the oil dugs in Mexico are sunk or damaged. Shell and BP buy a lot of their oil from Mexico, as it is produced there. Mexico's oil dugs produce about 220 million barrels a day or something.

Oh yeah, if things get really worst, the US will take out its emergency oil supply. Which is about 770 million barrels.

Damn gas prices are crazy. I live in la and do a lot of comuting with a YUKON for gods sake. I gotta go to pasadena for school and then all the way out to north hollywood for work. I'm draining my tank at the worst possible time. I still believe, that in time, gas prices will settle at around the 2.50 to 3.00 range.

Don't quote me on this, but I heard Doug Brauner tell a caller on his Sunday morning show that it takes 4-5 years the fuel savings to equal the higher purchase price. I'm sure the current hybrid owners are happy right now. I saw one news report several days ago about a hybrid owner in Sac who's only spending $15 every 2 weeks on gas.

As far as how much you'd save now will depend on your driving patterns. If you're driving in town only when the electric drive is most effective, you'll save. If you do a lot of freeway driving (45mph or faster), the savings won't be all that much.

Hybrid cars are expensive. They don't actually save you anything if you have to start making higher car payments to get them.

The best way to deal with the higher gas prices is simple, but not very palatable to most Californians. CAR POOL! Three people riding together in one car instead of each driving their own car reduces the demand for gas considerably.

Californians are HORRIBLE at carpooling. They just might have to think seriously about changing that situation as much as possible.

I just paid $1.29 for a liter of gas. Grand Larsony. I felt like buying tomatoes so I could throw them at city hall, but then I realized I spent everything on gas.

I realize you're in Canada, so there's metric system and currency conversion rates to take into consideration, but $1.29 looked so pretty when I first saw it.

Like something out of a dream.

ARCO gas on Sunrise (at Winding Way) was $2.85 tonight.
hahah i so knew that, i stopped there on my way home from tahoe last night to get some gas. i knew where it was from the G2G ( it's the only street i'm familar with in sacramento, well that and arco arena :D)

i had to pay 2.89 for my gas today at home grrrr.

this so sucks. gas prices spiked as soon as i moved back home, and i have to commute everyday to school ( believe it or not, even with the insane gas prices it's still cheaper to drive then take public transportation) i want to carpool, but no one from my school lives in my area.

my solution for now is to ride my bike around town and to drive only to school. luckily i'm on my vacation right now, so i won't need to drive until wednesday. riding the bike is good for the air and my butt LOL!

I filled up at a "Full Service" station this afternoon here in Anchorage and paid $2.68 and got my oil checked and windows washed by an attendant. No lines either.

SUV's suck. I was almost at a half a tank when I left my house, and right now I'm at the beach and its almost on E. To make matters worse, I'm stuck in my car right now cause I'm too young to get into any of the bars. Grrrrr.

Or biking or public transport if you live anywhere close to where you work. I know people who bike up to an hour to get to work, but that also has to do a lot with enjoying biking that much. For people living in rural areas (ie the greater Sacramento area) it is mostly impossible to bike around, but it is a much better alternative for anyone in a city.

Oops, sorry. You're right, captain bill.

I forget about biking and public transit.

Up here, there are no buses, subways, etc. and unless you're name is Lance Armstrong you're not going to want to try and ride a bike... between steep narrow roads and logging trucks, it's not a very attractive alternative.

;)

Or you could just use your car less to save on gas. I know a lot of people, including myself who use the car more often than we need.

Just drive less...
