OK folks. After the f***ed up news today (not totally unexpected, but still....) we are trying to rally the troops again for the Sacramento City Council Meeting on May 8. That is a week from this Tuesday. The meeting starts at 6 but we advise folks to be there earlier to be able to get through security and have a seat.

If you have a #FANS t-shirt, wear it. If you don't, wear a white shirt so you will blend in.

We need to show support for the City Council to pursue the next phase of getting an arena built. If I understand correctly, this is when they will be discussing Plan B. You don't have to sign up to speak or anything (unless you want to! - two minutes max), just being in the audience with white shirts shows support for KJ and all he has done and will continue to do on this issue is plenty!

I can (typically) promise you the following if you show up - a first-hand glimpse into your city government at work, at least one rambling discussion on race problems in Sacramento by Mac Worthy, a song or quiz by Kim Sloan, hopefully a discussion on senior Bingo, some random illogical discussions by the inadvertently humorous Occupy folks, brilliant pontifications by KJ, Ashby, and Rob Fong, and of course, the idiocy of Sheedy in person!!! All for no charge!!! ;)

But please, if you can, show up and make your voice heard, either by speaking in support of the downtown arena or just by the show of force with the white shirts, which is what we really want.

If you do speak, please stick to the facts, do NOT rail on the Maloofs (bad form in this setting), and tell what a new facility would do for you and the City.

Thanks!!!

For those that don't know, the City hall is located between "H" and "I" and 9th and 10th. The meetings are in the new building to the north of the old City Hall on the same block. It is just north of Cesar Chavez Plaza Park.

And I know at a minimum that Mike, Captain Factorial, kennadog, and I should be there. Any others? JB_kings?

I'll try to be there. As Mike and I have discussed numerous times, Tuesdays are my busiest day.

PS I hope crazy lives-above-a-bar-and-pissed-about-it chick is there this time.

Nah, she really does have a beef with the gal next door. I feel sorry for her and hope they get that straightened out. Come introduce yourself next time so I know who you are!

I plan on being there. At the moment, I'm not planning to speak. I'm just really depressed about this news right now. Probably, because I thought we had a real deal at last. I don't see how the city can do a new arena on its own. I don't think the city can come up with enough money. Unless, of course, AEG is interested enough to come up with the extra bucks.

Can't make it ...

Out of town on business on Tuesday and very bummed I can't be there. Would not only like to join the ranks of #Fans and put my best foot forward in that setting, but was also looking forward to meeting all of you--being that you have put in such a great effort. Very sorry about not being able to be there this time but believe me you guys have another member!

Thanks to Warhawk for posting the information above.

This is just another reminder that #FANS will be at this Tuesday's Sacramento city council meeting. We hope that you can join us.

And now for our message....

Despite the bad news that was given a few weeks ago, we will not let up and crawl away under a rock.

#FANS (Fund Arena Now Sacramento) is still going strong with our message of #BiggerThanBasketball.

We hope that you will be able to join us in our united support for a new downtown arena in the rail yards that will bring about two economic engines (rail yards and Natomas), jobs, revitalize our downtown, etc.

If you do show up please join us by wearing a white #FANS shirt or a plain white shirt.

The city council knows who we are, our message and respects us.

Please do NOT wear any Sacramento Kings gear or colors or use their slogans. If you do that then the public (mainly the opposition) will simply point you out and say, "Let these Kings fans and the Kings owners pay for a new arena or renovate PBP instead."

The meeting begins at 6:00pm but we advise you all to show up as early as possible to ensure you get through security and take a seat with us inside.

If you have any questions please feel free to post them here and I will respond accordingly.

Just a reminder - please show up tomorrow night if at all possible!

God, for a minute this evening, I thought it was Tuesday night and I'd completely missed the council meeting. I felt sick. What a relief when I realized Tuesday is tomorrow! Let me tell you, my slightly off-functioning brain is a real pain. They say it will recover. It'd better!

See you all tomorrow night!

THANK YOU to all of you who attend and speak up at these meetings. I wish I could go, but it's impossible for me to do so due to my work.

I (and I'm sure many others) really appreciate that you guys put up the time and effort to go to these meetings and try to keep this alive.

I'm going to wear my white "Revitalize" T-shirt, but I'm also brining along my white "5 Votes" T-shirt, in case anybody wants to wear it tonight. Yes, it's clean. :)

#FANS are at city hall. Is anyone going to add comments or play by play?

Sorry I wasn't able to do it, Mike. I had a community service board of directors meeting tonight and, since I'm the secretary, it was kinda mandatory that I be there. :(

There were quite a few of us there tonight. I'm proud of our group. Alfred Avalos, Ron, Mike, Capt Factorial, everyone who spoke did very well.

I want to say, again, that Mike has done a fabulous job as leader of this group. He's simply amazing. He presented pictures he took of the Sprint Center and Kansas City live. Great pictures that conveyed a clear idea of what an arena could bring to the railyards in Sacramento.

I will say that we left before the last city council item and were standing around in the lobby outside chambers talking. Mayor KJ came out and he said to us that we were a "very impressive group." Those kudos should mainly go to Mike who kept us organized and involved.

I told KJ that we believed in an arena in the railyards, with or without the Maloofs/Kings. That's why our motto is "Bigger Than Basketball." While most of us are Kings fans, we are residents of the region who think a new ESC in the railyards would do wonders for entertainment for the whole region.

Don't get me wrong. I want the Kings to stay in Sacramento. I think Sacramento has more than proven that it deserves it's team. We've also proven that we deserve better owners than what we're stuck with at present. Two of the top ten longest sell-out streaks in NBA history And one of those streaks was while the team really stunk. And in a state where it is notoriously hard to get any public financing for stadia or arenas, Sacramento was innovative, daring and came up with a feasible way for a small city to fund the lion's share of an arena.

Anyway, KJ told us not to give up hope for a railyard arena. I love that guy. Its clear that he is a fighter, stays positive and confident and has the will and heart of a lion. :D No wonder he was a great BB player. I think Angelique Ashby has most of those qualities, too. PBP is no longer the highest and best use of that land and Natomas deserves a better use.

And KJ nicely autographed a KJ card for one of our group. ;)

By the way. There were multiple speakers tonight about upcoming further cuts to Access Leisure and River Cats Independence Field. These are all about recreational and sports programs for the handicapped. As a mother I was particularly moved to tears by parents' descriptions of what these programs have meant to their handicapped children. A couple of youngsters also spoke. They were very impressive.

Well, I found a website where you can donate to these and other parks and recreation programs. I donated to the two above. If anybody out there can contribute anything, your gift would be appreciated beyond description.

Amazing what you can learn about at city council meetings.
