Euro 2008

I'll try and catch a few games here and there, the match times aren't particularly friendly to those of us stateside.

Yeah, it must be pretty tough to like football if you live in America. Are you a fan or would you be more of a casual watcher?

I watch the big events, that's usually it. I'd watch more if they were better publicized, easier to watch, etc.

Haven't been able to catch most of the games (it's finals week here on The Farm) but am rooting for Czech Republic. Mostly because of this.

I was born in Europe and yes, football (soccer) is my favorite sport. Some people say that football (soccer) is boring but they just do not understand this game. It is like many people in Poland say that baseball is stupid. The same thing.

For example, I do not like American football at all but I do not say it sucks. I just prefer to watch rugby because IMHO it is MUCH more entertaining. People have different tastes but, please, do not say that European football sucks if you have know no idea what football really is.

Go Poland !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd agree with you. I can't stand when people say a certain sport is boring or sucks. I may not like a sport, but I never say it sucks, because it is ignorant to people who do like the sport. Alot of people here hate basketball because they have it in their heads that you can't touch someone, yet they've never watched a game in their lives!

I love American Football, moreso than Rugby, even though rugby is very big over here.

Anyway, on topic, did you see the Poland and Germany game? :p

I guess I can't talk, Ireland didn't even qualify :o

My Mom is from Germany; so that result was OK :)) I still think that Poland has some chances.

P.S. England did not qualify either and I guess, Irish people should be happy about that :))

Poland could be a dark horse to do well, but personally, I don't think they'll go very far. Their are thousands and thousands of Polish people in Ireland, so I'd like them to do well.

Haha, that is one thing that makes us not qualifying a little easier. Always nice to see England do badly :D:p

Sure, Poland is not a force ... may be even not a dark horse BUT they were pretty good last season. That German coach did a great job in Poland and I still believe they are capable of upsetting some good teams. Plus, Croatia did not look impressive against Austria.

Croatia/Turkey -- what a finish!! One of the most stunning games I've ever seen.

Who won? What happened? I caught a bit of Italy-France day before yesterday in which France was eliminated. Now Spain gets Italy as the knockout round is usually where I really start getting interested.

third time for the Turks to score a goal in the last minute in a row. Insane last 2 minutes. Turks suck but have a lots of heart and all the luck of the world. I mean - their only shot on target was in the 122 minute and it went in. Germany will beat them easily. Croats were better team but couldn't hold on for 60 seconda.

Watching replay of Turkey-Croatia right now (just after 11 pm) on ESPN-2 so I can see all the last second drama. Just underway in 2nd half.

Yep, that last 2 mins BEFORE the penalty kicks was exciting. I hate the penalty kick format. There should be a better way. I'm not sure golden goal, silver goal, and all the other OT formats are much better. I think futbol should go for major rule changes like increasing the size of the goal by around a foot higher and wider or one bizarre idea I heard of having two goal nets set up to defend in OT.

And now the Turks get to face Germany - Yikes!

What a great game !!!! Russia has an absolutely amazing tournament !!! I am so happy for them !!!! And how about Guus ?!?! This guy is really special !!

Spain becomes lone Euro 2008 group winner to get through to final round - now gets Russia. Maybe there was justice in OT penalty shootout to finally put away Italy. The Spanish outplayed Italians for the most part. On Wednesday, I suspect Germany will take care of Turkey to get to the championship game, but in this tournament anything is possible. Sort of ironic since more Turks live inside Germany than anywhere else in Europe. Croatia and the Netherlands early on looked like top teams in winning their brackets, but luck just ran out.

the spain/italy game was very boring and dissapointing, even though i was counting on a low scoring/ slow paced game it really went over the top. what a waste of time.

Playing Italy in soccer is like playing the Detroit Pistons -- tough physical defense is the first priority and they get their offense when they can. It's usually not pretty, but they've had a lot of success with that style.

Watching Germany-Turkey and wow - one of the best games of Euro 2008 tournament so far. 1-1 at the half. Turkey was surprisingly strong early and Germany tentative. The Germans did answer Turks early goal in only 4 minutes and then seemed to get more in attack mode. Second half awaits with winner on to Sunday's final.

Massive liverpool fan myself, go spain!!

Absolutely hate Liverpool, hate isn't even a strong enough word

I'm a United supporter so the above goes without saying if you know anything about football (saying that genereally, not to you Sac.1989). Not all Liverpool fans are the same, but generally speaking, they have to be the most deluded set of fans you could ever come across.

:)

Anyway, did you guys over in the US miss some of the game last night due to the electrical storm? All of Europe missed some of it, apparently there was an electrical storm over Vienna and the audio and video kept losing it's signal.
What about you piksi, you live in Europe, don't you?

I am happy for Germany, they did a very good job yesterday :) ... they are my second favorite team.

I hope Russia, my third favorite team, will do the same thing. Go Russia !!!

Germany - Russia is my final ))))
