ESPN: Artest Requesting Trade, Representing Himself

I dunno that him requesting a trade really hurts us THAT badly. We all wanted him traded anyways...And any leverage that potential trading partners may have gotten from Artest going to the media is lost by the fact that there are probably multiple teams who may want him, we still might get a bidding war that may help us.

Yeah, multiple teams who may want him. Or, on the other hand, virtually NO team willing to take him on, ESPECIALLY after this latest bunch of BS. Go to PacersDigest. Look at their old threads.
This is Groundhog Day. The only thing that's changed is the uniform. There is, IMHO, a real chance no GM is going to be willing to part with much of anything for Artest. And every time he opens his mouth, it just gets worse.
The Lakers should be very careful what they wish for...

I just want him gone now, I'd take him being flat out waived over him playing another game in a kings uniform. I hope we can get something for him, a pick or nice young player, anything. Ultimately the important goal is to get him off the roster. Maybe piksi is right that we deserve this, but we just really don't need this crap at this point in time. I can't take this guy tainting our team any longer, we may not have done much recently but we're too good to have him on our roster. He never belonged here, we never should've traded for him and he just needs to go away.

If the Lakers are reluctant, I'd imagine that KT as filler is the sticking point.
I'd happily trade Artest for almost nothing to any other interested team, but with the Lakers, I just can't decide.
Would trading Artest make them the next champions, or destroy them?
He's not enough to destroy them because the lakers don't have to commit to him, but I don't think he's going to be the one to push them over the hump, hell they don't even need anyone to push them over the hump. If they have Bynum against the celts they win.

He's an expiring. Kinda makes his wackyness a bit moot. Especially to aging teams or teams with a closing window of contention (Spurs, Suns, et cetra) who may be willing to roll the dice on a Rent-a-Ron for a championship run.

Artest is not a player you just give away for the sake of giving away. He is still a GREAT player, and he can't be a negative influence in the locker room even if he wants out. Kevin and Cisco both love the guy.

There is too much interest in Ron now for the Kings to have to consider massive talent dumps toi the lakers in order to get rid of Ron. He will nto bring back a superstar, and of course asking for a trade makes it harder, but there is more than 1 contending team who will make an offer, and so I ratehr sincerely doubt anything silly where we dump Artest and throw in talent along with it is going to be on the board.

The lakers are playing games... not willing to trade Odom? yeah right... The Lakers know better than to call Petrie about Artest and not have Odom at the very least on the table... Petrie would laugh and hang up on that in a sec. WOW having Kobe, Odom, Artest, Gasol, and Bynum all on the floor? why in the Hell would we do that? its gonna be hard enough to make this trade just because their the Lakers... But Odom will definitely be in the trade if it happens...
The truth is that KOBE doesn't have a care in the world about Odom, he doesn't come through, and Kobe doesn't trust him to show up every night...
KOBE GETS WHAT KOBE WANTS(unless it's to be traded) And Kobe wants Artest and Artest wants KOBE... but both GM's are trying to play like they are the strong hand... The lakers want us to seem like were in a weak position, like we NEED to trade Artest... But the truth is Petrie CAN, AND WILL hold Artest unless a trade works to our benefit.
The Lakers GM already knows what the asking price will be... He has to at least pretend to play hardball(go through the motions)... but in the end KOBE will force his hand, and he will agree to make this deal. The only question is... will other teams come up with a better deal for us?

This isn't that big of a deal. After he sent the first e-mail wishing he had opted out we all knew he wanted a trade. There is nothing new here. I'd also venture to say that management has wanted to trade him for awhile as well. Again nothing new.
While I personally would have preferred him to keep this internal, this could end up drawing a lot of interest from some teams and possibly even lead to a bit of a bidding war for potential trade partners. It seems like a lot of teams are now interested in him, seemingly more then were interested last year when we were shopping him.

Well, that is a lot of speculation right there, but I'm sure the lakers know they're not getting Artest without giving up Lamar. However, I'm sure Kobe is fine whether Lamar stays or goes, he knows he's getting Bynum back and he knows he still has Gasol. He'll be fine with what he has, he's not going to get involved with the FO again over LO and Artest, the difference between the two isn't big enough.

are there teams in the east that would want Ron besides the Heat? Regardless of who he's traded to, I feel like he'll do what he did when he came to Sac and just be a basketball beast and on his best behavior. We don't want him in the west if possible. Not that the Kings are going to be contending next year or anything. But then again, the better trade opportunities are probably in the west...

It was pretty clear from the beginning of this offseason that Ron and his agent weren't on the same page. Ron of course was acting like a nut as always, but his agent too was acting oddly -- seemingly kissing our *** at every available opportunity, whether to make up for Ron's nuttiness, or in rather blatant conflict of interest fahsion deciding that he would rather side with us as the more valuable future friends than his own client.

How much value does Artest really have in this league? Yes he is a phenomenal talent, but the fact remains he has soured every team he's ever been on. Teams won't be wiling to part with major pieces unless they have a solid backup plan in place if Ron goes haywire.
That's why I doubt the Lakers end up giving up Odom AND taking back Kenny Thomas's contract. They have no insurance should Ron go crazy.

I don't really blame Artest for wanting out. The guy wants to be on a team that wants him there and he knows the Kings dont have any plans to keep him in their future. I mean who wants to play somewhere where they're not wanted? It's like working for a job that plans on letting you go at first notice. You're gonna be looking to work for someone else too.

This is completely ridiculous. The Kings could promise Artest the moon and the stars and Artest would still want what was best for Artest. They could give him the max and put a hundred foot statue outside of Arco Arena, and a week later he'd be dreaming aloud about playing for the Knicks or whatever else thought popped into his head that day. I'm sick and tired of hearing people say Artest just wants to be loved. He was WELCOMED to Sacramento after a seriously horrible brawl that he initiated, and then a seriously horrible trade demand after Indiana had stood by him for a year, and he still screwed them.
After all taht, Sacramento welcomed him. Didn't take long for that to turn into a series of distractions and wavering commitment (first he's opting out, then he's not opting out, then he is opting out, then he's not opting out).
Commitment is a two way street, and the only street Artest knows is Ron Artest Comes Before Everything Else Street. Committing to Artest is like having a girlfriend who demands that you be faithful to her and then cheats on you all the time and then comes and burns down your house for good measure.

I'm not sure why everyone is convinced that Bynum is the secret ingredient to the Lakers winning the championship. Your talking about a guy that Kobe wanted traded a year and a half ago. He played around 35 games last year, and played well in about 25 of them. I'm sorry, but that does not a career make.
He may well come back and be the, BE all END all. But there are no guarrantees. I remember one Jerome James playing like a superstar for just enough time to get a big contract, before he went back to eating pizza as part of his training. All I'm saying is that he hasn't proved anything yet.

KOBE is not a Odom fan... he has been vocal about his mental lapses in clutch situations... Odom is basically looked at as being unable to come though when it matters. Kobe wants defense! and theres a huge difference between Odom and Artest... trust me he'd love to have Artest, and would rather have Artest

First of all, who gives a ish what Kobe thought about him? He's not a scout, he's not a coach, and he's not a GM. Also, he wanted Bynum traded that doesn't mean he didn't like his potential, he just didn't want to wait on a 19-20 year old rather than getting a future hall of fame PG. You bet your *** that Kobe was happy with Bynum this year.
I watched Bynum, the kid is for real. He didn't appear out of nowhere, he's being taught by the greatest center of all time, and he worked his *** off last offseason to get into incredible shape; and that's not even a new thing, he improved his game a lot the offseason prior. Does that mean he's going to become a superstar? I don't know, but the kid was a legitimate double double player and a very good shot blocker, there is no reason to believe he'll regress unless he unexpectedly slacks off or his injury is a recurring problem. I have no reason to believe either are true. I don't know about secret ingredient, but you add Bynum to Gasol/Odom/Kobe and you have a damn good team, their biggest weakness in the finals was a physical presence in the post and Bynum supplies that on both ends. He can stay 13-10-2 player for the rest of his career (even though he was averaging more like 17 the last few weeks before he went down) and he'd be a huge addition to that team. The lakers expect that from Bynum and more next year, they'd be fine with having to start next season with the basic core roster they have right now.
